Chapter 7- Painful training, lovable skills
There are two types of OP characters (so says the author for the sake of our story): the type that trains to learn skills and the type that cheats to get skills. Yes, both types involve skills.
As for Revi she was the type that cheats to earn skills.
As a normal other-world traveler, however, she wanted to try training just once.
On a certain beautiful day she joined the training drill of the small village.
“Revi, here. You can have this back.”
A sweet smiling girl talked to her while handing her a sword covered in a black cloth, acting as a sheath.
“You’re giving… me… a weapon?”
Reveka looked at Maya with suspicious eyes. Completely oblivious to this, the girl still smiled beautifully at her.
“Yes. This was the only thing you had with you and the design looks very unique, so it must be quite precious. Since Kida invited you to join our daily training you might as well use your own weapon.”
“I don’t think it’s a nice idea to give weapons to suspicious people, though…” she mumbled in a low voice.
Still as sweetly as ever, Maya talked with a bright smile in her face.
“Did you say anything?”
“No.”
“It’s bladeless so it should be fine.”
“Huh?”
“Nothing. Let’s go to Mr. Hercul. It’s about time we started to train.”
***
As Maya led Reveka to an open ground, Revi was having an inner conversation (with one of the main characters of this story that may have been forgotten for a few chapters).
“You stupid Revi! You left this ‘me’ alone for so long. You will definitely regret this.”
“Why are you angry Bride? See, they even gave you a beautiful cloth as a gift.”
“Beautiful your face! This smells of horses, and very unclean horses.”
“Yeah, the smell is a bit…”
“There is no need for you to tell ‘me’ that. ‘I’ can smell it myself very well.”
“…”
“What?”
“You can smell it?”
“Yes.”
“You’re a sword, you know?”
“So what, hmph? ‘I’ have something called [Perception], you know?”
“No, I don’t know.”
While puffing her cheeks cutely (in our imagination), Bride was complaining at Reveka.
“Can’t you lower this perception’s perceptive power a bit then?”
“‘I’ could, but then, not only smelling, ‘I’ wouldn’t even be able to see well.”
“That perception thing is a skill, right?”
“Yes.”
A grin was planted on Reveka’s face as she immediately tried.

“I wish to learn [Perception]. Show condition.”
>
Hehehehe. As she laughed not so quietly, Bride looked a bit worriedly at her.
And this is how she gained a new title she could have lived without.
>
What? Opening her status window, she checked the details of this new title.
‘Common sense in another world? Please. That serves sh*t to people like me in here.’ She thought this very seriously. This thought was really one of her few beliefs.
If we’re talking about common sense then, to Reveka, it was ‘common sense’ to have overpowered skills when in other worlds, to cheat your way up the power tower, to have talking swords as companions, and maybe to beat the demon lord or some grand church organization along the way.
It was a ‘common sense’ earned by many years of reading fictional candies and nowhere stories, ranging from crappy ones, to ones with plain stupid strength that comes from nowhere and leads to god.
Of course, Reveka had read them all and enjoyed them lots.
“We’re here.”
A sweet voice interrupted her weird moment. Looking as if she had heard nothing, Maya had led Reveka to Hercul and the others.
The said training field was an open area with various scarecrow-like figures and stacks of wanna-be wooden swords. A thin carpet of grass covered the ground, and one or two fruit trees stood tall in the vast empty space.
“You came, Revi?”
Kida saw them and approached to greet. Hercul and the other youths were just a step behind her.
“Ok everyone. I guess you all know who this is. She will be joining us today for training.”
There were only three girls in the whole group, the only three girls she knew of the village (excluding Veta, of course). The others were boys. She remembered some of them as the ‘retainers with one-sided feelings for their captain’, that she had met some time ago. The others were people she didn’t know (or hadn’t bothered to remember).
The group was made solely of youths. They were all either in their late teens or in the early twenties. Reveka didn’t miss some red cheeks and awkward greetings. (In this case, however, she was happy to not be the only awkward one conversation-wise.)
The happy-chatty mood disappeared at once when Hercul talked in a loud soldier-like voice.
“Everybody in line! “
Hearing this, the group immediately organized in a 3x5 formation, and Reveka was somehow dragged into the rear left side of it.
“Start after three, and swing your sword 20 times with the intent to cut your opponent.”

‘What?’
Going with the flow, Reveka was forced to swing her now-katana Bride with both hands in up-force down motions thinking something along the lines ‘at least it’s only twenty’, but after those twenty swings Hercul gave another order.
“Now, pierce your opponent twenty times.”
This went on for quite a bit. In the second phase they tried with the scarecrows, in the third phase against each other (of course with wooden swords).
…
Under the shadow of a nearby tree, Reveka was sitting and watching the group.
When did this happen?
Half an hour after the training began.
With an average ability of 8, it was a wonder she lasted that much.
Angry at herself, Revi sat down under an apple (if you exclude the fact that its color was almost blue) tree. She thought two-three times about trying to use a wish, but chose against it and simply sat down.
Why wish to train better when you can cheat your power up and skill up?
Dead tired after those 30 minutes, she lost interest in training herself and simply acted as if she was watching the others do it.
Her mind was occupied with Bride’s loud voice and constant self important attitude (ore-sama… but female).
“Hahahaha, you’re so weak. If all other-worlders are like that, it’s a wonder you’ve survived.”
With a sullen face Revi was trying to concentrate on her wishes.
“Have you ever succeeded in killing flies? Ahahaha, or did they hit you back?”
“You…”
She glared at the sword, with an angry face.
“Puahahahahaha, even your pouty face is too cute. ‘My’ master, you’ll never pass for a warrior unless the world becomes blind.”
“Shut up!’’ She shouted back mentally and again tried to focus on thinking about her wishes.
As if on cue, an apple fell right on her head.
“Ouch!”
Refusing to look up because of the regular traumatic experiences in her life she grumbled in her heart “Thanks, Newton.”
Bride heard her inner grumble. “What’s a ‘newton’?”
“…”
She didn’t answer. If one answer is bound to lead to another hundred questions, then let’s leave it at that.
…
As she started daydrea- cough- training with her skill, she had thought about quite a few wishes she could make. Some had none to one or two conditions that could be easily fulfilled, while others might have just been asking her to kill herself.
A good example was when she asked to become a dragon, mostly joking about it, but then she lost all color to her already white skin when the words were shown:
And then the second version…
She couldn’t believe her eyes. It was ridiculous.
“Revi, hello! You there?” Bride had called to her a few times to bring her back to her senses.
As for Reveka, there were many things she couldn’t believe, starting from the impossible sounding mission of killing dragons and whatnot, continuing with the OP title and skill, and receiving a deathblow by the time she read the physical and magical abilities.
She was even more surprised to see second way of reaching this same impossible wish.
Realizing she had said she wanted to ‘become’ a dragon not transform into one, she wondered if she would end up scaly and gigantic. She pushed the thought aside, as she found it quite impossible to reach anywhere close to a hundred let alone the thousands in physical ability.
As for the magical ability…
She tried wishing for it.
The results?
None.
Nothing happened. The heavenly voice didn’t say a thing. This was normally done when it was making the wish come true, but there would be results if something were to happen.
However, nothing happened.
A bit disappointed, she went back to the simple, yet very effective skills. Starting with the obvious reasoning of protecting herself first and staying alive, she first wanted to at least be invulnerable to physical harm and pain.
Well that proved to be quite impossible. Wishing for a skill that nullified pain, you had to fulfill quite the painful condition, more literally than she’d liked.
She practically had to ‘kill’ herself in the most painful way possible and somehow still be alive at the end.
How come?
Well, there were several versions of this: things like getting pierced by some hundred needles, or walking through fire. For your information, to nullify fire she had to do the same thing so we could pass this as a two in one offer doing it the second way, but unless something more… well, less intent on killing her came up, she wouldn’t do this even if someone offered heaven.
The good news in this story is that her idiotic skill did allow her to, at least, gain some resistance if she only pricked her finger a little or burned it and the like. So, for now, she settled with these skills: [Heat resistance], [Cold resistance], [Pain resistance], [Poison resistance] (this may have been gained half unintentionally… as she bit a certain blue apple), [Physical attack resistance] (I swear she slapped herself for this).
And this is how the day ended.

Next time I write a story, I’ll finish at least half before posting it… (I’ll at least try to be patient enough to do that).
Sigh… I wrote more than half of this chapter a week ago.
Anyway, thanks for reading.
