《The Fate of The Summoned (being ReWritten)》Chapter 11: The Expedition begins

It had been 3 days since the Group fight ended and the various groups formed. Each of the groups of students had around a score of soldiers and knight accompanying them, only for guidance, not for actual protection, well not exactly anyways. Some of the groups, had more potential than others, so they had actual combat hardened guards and guides. Most of the groups were formed around one or two of the final contestants of the mass sparring before. Every student was involved, even the Hero of Light, though his expedition group was more lavish, than the others.
The 30 students were split into 6 groups in all, the lone teacher and the T.A. had been kept behind, though they had not been seen since the second day, after the Students went into town to explore and such. Four of the groups were heading to the north of the Capital, through the forest towards the dungeons. The other two groups were heading south of the Capital, towards the more abandoned parts of the forests that cover much of the Kingdom of Light. Jonathan’s group was heading towards the Elemental Labyrinth; it would help to bolster his potential the most.
Tracie Bronson, was accompanying his group, her potential for mastery over the elements would be handy there, as long as they did not go too deep, foolishly. The other 3 Students within the group were some of the more exceptional among those that had the more common Classes. One was the sole Ninja of the Summoned; the Ninja could be considered a combination of the Assassin, Rogue, and Alchemist Classes. They used stealth and had rather high perception, as well as items of their own creation, to assist them, much like Alchemists could. They were an uncommon hybrid class, but still less rare than most Hero classes.
The other two were uncommon variants of common classes. One was a Brawler, which was a more close combat oriented warrior style class. They were akin to the monk, in that they usually fought unarmed, but they often used whatever was at hand as well, such as cups or silverware, to great effect. The last of the students was a Ranger, a common variant of the Rogue Class. They were great at long distance fighting, but not too bad with being able to survive in close combat easily enough, against certain foes. Rangers, had rare higher tier variants, such as the Tracker, and Survivalist classes, which were used by the militaries of the world, as elites.

Though they had voiced their dissent, Theresa and Mina were put on separate teams. Theresa was put on one of the southern teams with Diego and a few others, while Mina was put with one of the Northern groups, heading deep into the forest. Neither of the two, were entirely aware of what was to happen, but they were cautious. One of the reasons why they were so outspoken against their separation was because of this, but they were still around allies, of a sort. Mina’s group was one was the least potential, aside from Mina herself.
They were heading towards what was arguably the most dangerous Dungeon in existence; The Whispering Abyss where the Crimson Princess fell. They were to undergo a baptism of blood and death, fighting for their lives in there, in the hopes that they would be able to break free of their limited potential. They had long since been made aware of how dangerous this would be, but all of them, except for Mina had agreed to it. Truthfully speaking, there was little real choice in the matter, aside from Mina the others were afraid of getting left behind and ridiculed, by their more successful classmates, so this was a necessary evil.
One of the northern groups was heading towards what was the Greentooth Cave dungeon. Although, it was no longer considered a true dungeon, that place had an instinctual draw to the native Goblins and their variants. The other southern group was heading more southwest of the Capital, as though there was mostly forested area around there, there was a massive glade, that held a formidable array of creatures. Many of them were docile, but others were far from it, and had bounties on them, they were variants of normal wildlife, but far more dangerous.
The fourth of the Northern groups was heading more east than the others, towards one of the abandoned Borders, with another kingdom. This border, was along a massive cliff of sorts, called the Chasm, the thing is, that certain monsters have been known to crawl out of it on occasion, though it was not a dungeon, or did not seem to be one. Many expeditions, joint and otherwise, had been sent down many a time, over the years, to little effect, what groups that had returned often are changed, but they were the only survivors.

Unknown to everyone, there was a certain person moving about back at the Castle. This person, was one of the instructors, she was the sister of the Maid the Hero had taken advantage of not long ago. She was an elf, just as her younger sister was a half elf, but she was allowed, despite the Kingdoms policy against non-humans due to several things, namely the fact that the kingdom had ties to her for certain reasons. She was still wearing her hood and cloak, but she was walking past all the guards, without being noticed. She stopped before one of the doors leading into the dungeon, and then walked forwards, through it.
Victor opened his eyes as a magical alarm started blaring, and the dungeon shook around him. From beneath inhuman groans could be heard, and they were certainly inhuman, they were from the dungeon itself, something was harming it, which was a rare occurrence. The only things that could harm a Dungeon, without directly attacking the Core, were weapons crafted from Dungeon Cores, and divine powers, of which few were truly held that were combat oriented. Victor stood up as his cell shuddered around him; the bricks making up the cell shook at their seams.
The sound of men in full armor running towards his cell could be heard under the groans made by the dungeon and its constructs. The walls around him crumbled as the men in armor arrived, they all drew their weapons as they caught sight of Victor’s massive figure. Two of the men charged as a set of impressive armor formed around Victor. Their weapons clanged uselessly off of his armor, as Victor got used to the long lost weight. He merely cast a single glare at them and they all fell down, trembling, he walked past them, as the Dungeon shimmered around him.
He heard the steady tapping of shoed feet on the stone floor approaching him. He looked towards the end of the corridor, to see a cloaked figure approaching. The Instructor, stopped in front of him and removed the hood from her outfit, she lifted it past her pointed ears, revealing a head full of bluish silver hair. She shook her hair out, as she looked at Victor, he hair fell framing her delicate elfin face. She spoke in an elegant and unquestionably feminine voice this time. “Hello Victor, It certainly has been a while.” She paused as she took a new in front of him. Victor’s armor dissipated as he glanced over her.
Victor responded in his deep soothing voice. “I must say, I was not expecting you to rescue me Kass, you must have struggled much.” She trembled slightly as she glanced at him; she abruptly rose and hugged him tightly. He gently patted her back before he continued speaking “I know Kass, I know, but come, we must leave before the Goddess is able to react, I really do not want to go back.” Kass nodded before blushing slightly and disengaging herself from him. “Follow me, I need to grab my sister and you might want to leave a message for your friend, I will show you her room.” Victor gave a nod before stretching thoroughly, groaning slightly as he did.

Author's Thoughts: What is litRPG (From wikipedia) - LitRPG, short for Literary Role Playing Game, is a literary genre combining the conventions of MMORPGs with science-fiction fantasy novels.[1] LitRPG is a literary genre where games or game-like challenges form an essential part of the story. A LitRPG work simultaneously narrates the story of characters inside and outside of the game-world. At least some of the characters in a LitRPG novel therefore understand that they are playing a game: they are 'meta-aware'. So, while Tolkien's Lord of the Rings is a fantasy novel, a book about people creating avatars and interacting in a Lord of the Rings MMORPG would be a LitRPG novel. Why do I read them? You know, I am not too sure. I love MMOs. I played them, quit them, joined up and repeated the cycle. They are fun! They are a massive waste of time but so are most games. Do I want to read about someone else playing them? Sort of?The advent of VR and the possibility of VR someday becoming so immersive that you can't tell them from reality sets the imagination on fire. What if this could be life? But most stories fall short. At the end of the day the protagonist hangs up his VR helmet and goes to have dinner with his mom and dad or other family and it becomes meaningless. It's like the story that ends because the main character woke up and nothing you read matters. There have been some books that explore the concept of the intersection of reality and total immersion VR. Enders Game is a classic. There were a few others that escape me but they exist, however, the cross between the game and reality is weak.So what if the game was real? The technology needed for total immersion VR is so advanced that by the time we reach that goal technology should have naturally evolved to include several items. You must have direct neural input. You simply can't have a total immersion (all senses and perfect presence) experience without this basic prerequisite. If you have direct neural access, you can probably do neat things like feed knowledge and skills directly to that person. You can undoubtedly do many horrible things as well. Muscles are controlled by the brain. If you control the brain why would you let the body just sit there and rot? A person that sits unmoving for 24 hours a day will have their body whither away just like a coma patient. However, if you control the brain you could control the muscles. On a basic level, this would be isometric impulses, working muscle group against muscle group to avoid atrophy. Taken to its logical conclusion you would be able to gain muscle mass and program muscle memory. The flip side is that you could remote control their body... but let's not go there. So what would people do if it were real? Well, they would probably limit and regulate it since the drawbacks are very obvious. Even if you look at the basic aspects of this you can see some negative possibilities. Look at the Sword Art Online anime. Personally, I think they missed the boat by putting a bomb in the VR helmet. Do you really need a bomb when you have direct access to the brain? So what kind of events would you need to have a situation where the obvious drawbacks haven't been explored? Maybe a society where the advancement of technology has so far outstripped the explorations of its applications that ignorance was truly bliss? Okay, so I had to put in an alien invasion to kickstart the premise, but that was just one of the possibilities.
