《Second Horizon》Chapter 6.5: Daily Lives

Grim P.O.V.
The part of me that isn’t slaying monsters in Second Horizon goes to high school. I’m a senior going to Carmichael West High. Carmichael is the name of the metropolis that started out as a normal small city just 10 years ago. Now, it’s a mixing pot of, well, pot.
The drug business takes over most of the major sectors of the city, but the few untouched areas are the wealthy doctors, lawyers, etc. Thankfully I don’t live in the slums.
This is related to my father working at GlobalDome. He is one of the higher-ups and gets a fat paycheck every month. Enough to let my mother stay at home without a care in the world, even though she has a doctorate in radiology.
But I can’t really complain because when I graduate from High School next month I’m going full-time gaming! Convincing my parents could be a bit of a problem though. I’m betting on when I get to a higher level in the game, the extra loot can help me get real money on the Auction House.
For some reason my father seems to be out of the house more often and when he does come home, it seems like he has more gray hair than last time. He also mumbles incoherent words and half sentences that make my mother worry all of the time.
Sometimes I pick up on random things and one of them almost made me drop my spoon on the floor during breakfast. It was that serious.
Apparently there has been minor bugs in the AI that usually would have been small and insignificant by themselves but have piled up in the same area. Furthermore it is has some weird stuff that no one would believe if you weren’t directly part of GlobalDome or the son of John Deveraux, the CEO.

This also applies to my current situation. Some people getting hidden races/classes are affecting the physical body outside of the game. However it’s not just a physical upgrade like new muscles or faster speed; no its full blown abilities transferred to the person who plays the character. Now I’m fairly certain that means I’m not going to be able to summon Lyra from Hell and I’ll be damned if I ever do try bring that hussy over to the other side. I don’t want to end up an empty husk of a life form. Also sprouting a tail seems way too ridiculous to actually happen.
Apparently they hired some of the best scientists to figure out if its true or not. The work is still inconclusive. But if what my father says is true, then this could be a world changing phenomenon that won’t go unnoticed. Especially by activists and radicals that are itching to jump the gun on some big company for altering humans. Personally I’m excited to see what will happen, if anything. Speaking of human rights, when I bought my capsule it was around the slums where one of my classmates said you could get one for a cheap price. I went there because I wanted to surprise my dad when it came in. Just to show him I could do something on my own, since both my father and mother baby me all of the time. The only thing he was concerned about was if the capsule still had all of the parts necessary, probably because he’s paranoid about the whole AI superhuman stuff that they foresee might happen.
Synth P.O.V.
These past few days I have been feeling headaches when I log off and medicine has only eased the pain somewhat. It started when I was killed by that perverted medieval clown. After I logged out because of the death from his strange voodoo dagger I woke up like any other time inside my capsule. Hmmm, maybe I should call it coffin now? Sounds fitting.

Anyways when you start the capsule after the 1st time start where it uses you heartbeat it then tells you to put a small sleeve on the side similar to when a doctor takes you blood pressure. Furthermore the sleeve has small needles that are hard to see unless you use a magnifying glass. However the needles don’t hurt as you would think they should. Also the blood it draws is a miniscule amount.
Since I live near the slums and my parents do a lot of back-breaking jobs I work to have my own money. And now it is almost all gone after I bought the capsule from a very sketchy computer parts dealer in the not so nice part of our sector. I swear if he did something nefarious I have many ideas of how to get revenge. Just need various small household items and some can-pressurized goodies hehehe.
