《Death Mark》Ch. 4: The Orb

"What!?"
A barren land welcomed Dante's sight, he didn't know where he was and why was he there...
Well he did have some ideas, but he didn't dare believe them.
"Could this be the Orb's inner world?
But this doesn't make sense, only Commander level powerhouses can form the most basic innerworlds, and theirs isn't even remotely as big as mine..."
With a size already comparable to the innerworld of General level powerhouses, this size could only be described as heaven defying.
A radius of almost 5 km... Dante was almost going crazy.
"You are here kid..."
Dante was pulled out from his daze by a cold voice.
Trying to put his most amiable smile Dante turned around towards the source of voice.
The Demon had black skin with golden tattoos on his arms and seven orbs on his chest.
Dante could see them because the other Demon was bare-chested only wearing a pair of brown shorts.
He had red hair which gave him a bloody feeling, but the golden eyes mitigated it.
There was some kindness in those eyes.
"Paying respects to senior."
Dante wasn't stupid, he knew that the man in front of him had to be someone incredibly powerful.
Just the presence released by this senior was making it difficult for him to mantain his composure, and the number of orbs was an indicator of someone's power.
"Nice, you didn't fall on your knees because of my aura nor did you try to fawn on me, trying to curry favor.
You are barely passable."
"Who are you Sir?"
Suppressing his anger for the second time, Dante mantained a poker face. He didn't want to offend this senior by any means.
"My name is Rayleigh and I am a Clan Elder from the Heaven Sundering clan of the Violetmoon continent. You have surely heard of our clan's great name."

Reyleigh wore a smug expression on his face, taking great pride in being part of that formidable clan.
"Violetmoon continent? Sir Rayleigh are you sure that it's named like that? there is no continent named in such a way, and that clan..."
Dante was in disbelief he knew that there wasn't a reason for this senior of his to lie, so what was happening?
"Impossible, our clan is in the top ten of the most powerful clans of the Demon race.
No one would dare to change the continent's name for he would have to face our wrath."
Rayleigh couldn't believe what this little demon said, did that fool know how much power and influence the great Heaven Sundering clan had?
How could it be possible for a clan to obtain control of a whole continent without a great power to back them?
"Senior, I'm not lying and don't have any reason to do so. If senior wills it, later I can show you a map of the world."
"You better not be lying to me kid, or you won't have an easy life with me."
Dante was speechless, this senior was really strange.
...
After an awkward silence Dante decided to ask Rayleigh something.
"Senior where are we now?"
With a cold snort Rayleigh replied.
"Wasn't it clear already? We are inside your Orb, a while ago when you were battling that puny human, the Death Mark system activated to save your little life.
What puzzles me is how could someone like you be in possession of the legacy of the great Sardior clan..."
Dante's speculations were right, but after getting an answer he was again full of questions.
"Senior what's the Sardior clan and what do you mean by saying that I have their legacy?"

"Kid, do you really know nothing?"
"No, senior."
Reileigh was in disbelief, this sort of common knowledge was known by virtually everyone when he was alive.
Has there been some sort of earthshaking event which changed everything?
Reileigh was an experienced man so even if he was troubled one wouldn't be able to see it from his face.
With calm he replied.
"The Sardior clan was the leading superpower of my era, their influence encompassed the Central and the Norman continent. Their expansion was stopped only by the alliance of the other Great Nine clans, which had our Heaven Sundering clan as the leader of the alliance.
One of the main reasons behind their rise to prominance is the Death Mark, no one knows how did they manage to obtain it but it gave them an edge over the other clans.
The Death Mark most incredible abilities are refining, awakening and teaching.
Through the Death Mark, the Sardior clan groomed extremely powerful and wise leaders which slowly built a clan capable of shaking the whole world."
Dante was in disbelief, the things which Reileigh said were never mentioned in the history classes he had at school. The last three thousand years had been the Dungeon Era, what was all this talk about clans and never heard before continents?
Could it be...?
No, impossible it's common knowledge that the world before the establishment of the dungeons was a world of savagery and death.
Dante shook his head, he decided to leave these things for the future, at his current level there was little he could do about it.
If it was knowledge hidden from the masses, one had to at be in a high position to know this information.
After calming himself Dante asked again.
"Can you tell me more about the powers of the Death Mark?"
The moment Dante asked this, Reileigh became extremly serious.
"The three main aspects of the Death Mark are refining, awakening and teaching.
There are legendary artifacts which can do refining without limits, which means they can refine and evolve your body.
And there are also many artifacts which can purify your bloodline and soul, awakening your potential.
Even in those two star clans there are tresures which record the experiences of their ancestors so that the young generations can learn from them.
But the Death Mark is the only artifact which incorporates these three aspects."
"Wow!"
Dante was so stupefied that he couldn't hold back an exclamation of amazement from escaping his mouth.
"I struck it rich this time! My future is limitless, I will be able to live as I please without worrying about anyone or anything!"
But life isn't so easy.
"However there are some restrictions."
Dante fell from the heavens.
"There is nothing like a free meal in this world kid. The Death Mark purpose is raising powerful leaders with a good head, not degenerates."

Travelers [DROPPED]
DROPPED. The story focuses less on dungeon building than on the why of dungeons and how they fit into the universal order. While I am working from a grand plot, the writing is going slice of life style because I need to do that to work out how things progress into that grand plot. The original story seed idea / synopsis is below. The Grand Tapestry protects Rhofhir from Primal Chaos by imposing Order via patterns. However, the patterns grow stiff, stagnant, and so the Tapestry is nearing a time of Unraveling. Evidence of past civilizations wiped out during previous Unravelings foreshadow the apocalyptic catastrophe looming over the world. The mages of the Arcane Asylum reach out across dimensions, searching for some way to prevent, or at least stall, the coming Unraveling. Among the many voices they find is a gifted graduate student researching machine-assisted telepathy -- and his gaming group. Lena never expected that the chance to play DnD with telepathy would result in her becoming an actual Dungeon Master, nor that her friends could become the bosses of her dungeon. This is, in many ways, her dream come true, but there's a catch: What happened to Brad, the creator of that telepathy machine?
