《Nano Mage》Chapter 18 Work placement

A few weeks have passed since the three force magic study. Our teacher has been teaching us high end magic lately. I am highly confident in everything except lightning magic. Lightning magic still gives me a weird feeling, but I am able to cast it myself without any problems. However when compared to the rest of my magic it falls behind to an unimaginable extent.
“Since you have all been doing so well with your magic training, I would like you to put it to use in a practical way. That is why for the next four month’s you will all be getting work placements.” Everyone was left speechless for a moment. Then the uproar of voiced filled the room. Some people where excited, others had looks of gloom, one girl collapsed the wall she was sitting next to. “Why do we have to go work for others? We should be strong enough on our own!” What in the world was she going on about, just because someone has magic, is no reason to turn down practical experience.
With all the chit chat time went by quickly and we were now on our lunch break. Roaming Thunder and Shadow Void were sitting way to close, I could not breath normally. Edge has been watching us closely with his little group. About two weeks ago he put me in a situation were I had no choice but to use my strength again. He had tamed a creature which was slightly weaker than a dragon. I think it was called a Lemon phoenix. Though it is about the same size as a dog, it is relatively powerful. He had it try to kill me. My whole body was engulfed in yellow flames, and for five minutes my skin was blackened. The Lemon phoenix repeatedly peaked the top of my head. It broke through my skull, and started eating brain matter. When it was satisfied, that is when my body began the restoration process. New brain tissue was formed, creating a deeper connection between my neurons. This accelerated my brains processing speed, which meant I could think more efficiently. I was able to defeat the Lemon phoenix thoroughly. Since it was a phoenix its body was naturally cooked, so I ate it. I was flooded with an immense amount of mana. I then hear a voice. “See he killed it!”

I walked over to the location of the voice. “How long have you three been here?” I placed my arms at my hips. Edge and the other boy ran away in an instant, however the one remaining made a comment before parting. “You killed the Lemon phoenix we trained for days in an instant! Your body also recovered from having your brain eaten.” I did not catch the last part he said, since he ran away with a terrified expression like part of his body ran away and killed a person on its own.
Ever since that day they have been monitoring me relatively close. I am really looking forward to the work placement, after all, the pressure from the students are getting unbearable. The combination of the affection of Shadow Void and Roaming Thunder, plus that group leaves me no breathing room. I need to be very cautious that I do not end up in a similar situation in my working environment.
“Since there are many jobs available, no students will be grouped with the same mentor. Also do not disappoint our schools expectations.” There were thousands of available jobs. (Which one to choose?) “Huh?” A flyer with strange markings etched on them caught my attention. “Embark on the journey of magic enchantments.” When it said enchantments, did it mean like magical items? I have yet to see anything like that anywhere.I boldly registered for this work placement.

The Weather Vane
This is the first few chapter of my new book available on Amazon. The beginning is very light and fun, but more mature content comes later. From medieval fantasy to ultra high-tech to dinosaurs, The Weather Vane is a grippingly fast-paced adventure full of fun and excitement, literary flourish, and colorful characters. A group of ascendant masters find themselves in the afterlife and learn that they are newly recruited into the cosmic battle of good versus evil. Before they can join the fight, shipwreck strikes and they are lost in the ether. Stranded in a magical land beyond the reaches of the universe, The Weather Vane follows our crew of heroes as they try to piece things back together even while The Dark Lord’s forces march, maraud, and murder at every turn. Themes of darkness chase the overall levity of The Weather Vane which suffers not a lull as the climax begins near the beginning of the book and drives on through the greatly satisfying finish. The most epic of epics.
