《Cave Crawl》A Reluctant Companion 3

“Hey Yui, want to hear a joke?”
“No.”
“Okay then. You know, I’m kinda looking forward to meeting this merchant guy. We’ll be able to get food, water, and maybe even a place to stay.” He did a little half skip.
“Great, another night with you.” She rolled her eyes.
“Oh come on babe, isn’t it nice to have someone to sleep next to?”
“Can’t you just get a body pillow or something?”
“But it wouldn’t smell nearly as nice, or be as warm, or be a beautiful girl named Yui.”
“Whatever. How much longer to the merchant?”
“Based off what Joey said it’ll be a few hours. We should rehearse a dance number or something, make an impression when we meet him.” He moved to hold her hand but she pulled it away from him.
“A few hours ago you almost killed a man. How are you acting like nothing happened?”
“Well, I don’t worry about things that have already happened. And you know, can’t really unbash a skull.”
“You’re not that different from the robbers you killed.”
“Aren’t I nice to you?”
“You are, but only because you have a crush on me or something. And you’re certainly not nice to anyone else.”
“Why does it matter what I do to other people? You don’t even know anyone here so it’s not like I’m hurting your friends.”
“It matters because it shows who you are. God… you’re not even that nice to me. It’s like I’ve been kidnapped by one of those weird kids in class that’s obsessed with video games and anime and tries to hit on me just because I’m Japanese.”
“I mean I’ve always been interested in adventure games but JRPGs were never my thing.”

“Listen to yourself! You can’t take anything seriously! It’s all a big fucking joke to you. Haha, I murdered someone. Haha I stole all their food and water and now they’re going to die. Haha, I’m forcing Yui to degrade herself. Haha, I’m complete psycho and its funny.”
“Drop the bags. Now.” He stopped and glared at her.
“W-what are...” Her demeanor changed almost instantly. She quickly dropped her bags and faced him with fearful eyes.
“I thought we had a deal going here. I’d protect and provide for you and you’d give me companionship and affection. Instead what I’m getting from you is rejection and insults. I don’t know why you resent me killing your captors. They broke into my room with every intention of killing me. I just kept myself alive. And it wasn’t like they treated you well either. They kept you in rags that barely covered anything. You know what, I didn’t mind the view at all, but I knew you did. I gave you my own clothes so you could feel comfortable. When we only had enough scraps to eat for two days I made sure you had food before I had anything. Would they have done the same for you? And now you’re mad at me for taking those things from that Joey guy and his friends. Don’t you remember how that was going? They weren’t going to give us jack shit unless I whored you out. Would you rather have done that than watch some asshole get a face full of wood? Or would you rather me play at being virtuous and have us starve to death?”
“Andrew I...”
“If you hate me and how I treat you so much you’re free to leave. Just give me my bags and we can part ways. I’m sure you’ll have no trouble fending off marauders and gathering supplies by yourself.”

“No, please...”
“Please what?”
“Don’t leave me here all alone.”
“I’m sorry, I think you’ll have to be more clear.”
“I need you Andrew. I can’t survive without you. I-I swear I’ll cuddle with you and hold your hand and… maybe do other stuff. Just don’t leave me, please.”
“Alright great. Promise to cut out this ‘I hate you’ bullshit and I’ll keep you.”
“O-okay.” Andrew picked up the backpack and handed it back to her. She averted her eyes and received it. He sighed and started walking again.

Tales From the Terran Republic
We tried, you know… We really did. We tried so hard to be… better… We actually were better once. No, seriously. We were enlightened, generous, peaceful… Stop laughing! We were! We were peaceful, dammit! No, I’m not “tugging your winglets.” It’s true! Look, if you’re going to be like that, I’ll just push the launch button right now. See ya, don’t wanna be… Oh, you ARE interested after all? Ok. Hey, I just got word that your captain will be ok. We were able to get him into a med pod quick enough… Of course, we tried to save him. Just what sort of people do you think we are?... Now that was harsh… completely accurate, mind you… but harsh. Anyway, like I was saying, we were a prosperous, peaceful people, and war had been nothing but a distant memory for over five hundred years before it happened... Before Yellowstone happened! You don’t mean to tell me that you didn’t know about that… massive supervolcano? Blew the Hell out of our planet? Two years where nothing grew?… Anyway, that’s what started it, the Sol Wars… Oh, you have heard about those, huh? Well, needless to say, all that enlightened, generous, and peaceful didn’t exactly make it through the two years of complete famine and the wars that followed… Maybe it’s more accurate to say the enlightened, generous, and peaceful among us didn’t survive… (laughs)… You’re right. It does explain a lot, doesn’t it? Probably for the best, though. “Enlightened” and “peaceful” aren’t really all that useful out here in the galaxy at large, are they? That reminds me; thanks for the ship. You guys did a great job with this one. Oh, don’t be like that. At least it was us what got you and not one of the really messed groups like the Harlequin or the Black Angels. We’re just going to take your shit. It could be worse… trust me... Well, anyway, we loaded the life pods down with some good food, and you guys can drink alcohol, right? We put in a couple of fifths in there, too. It’s about forty percent ethanol, so be warned. Most species will want to dilute that. We’ll drop your wounded off somewhere safe once they are stable. Your fleet patrols this area fairly regularly, and we’ll drop the distress beacon right before we jump… Well, It’s been fun and no hard feelings, right?… Oh, you want to know some more? Sure. I got time to kill… Let me tell you about this one pirate and her crew. They’re Terran scum, but they are still… Why do we hate the Terrans? Hoo Boy… How much time you got? *** It’s the thirty-second century, and humanity is now part of a galactic civilization comprised of hundreds of worlds. Humanity has been savaged by natural disaster and war and has been fractured into several separate populations, all of which loathe each other (some things never change). This is a gritty drama-driven rambling tale that swings between action, drama, horror, and plenty of very, very dark comedy. Warning: contains adult situations, absolutely horrible language, bathroom humor, implied ultra-violence, actual ultra-violence, drugs, alcohol, pirates, mercs, xeno prostitutes, moral ambiguity, deranged AI's with identity issues, giant commie space slugs, and a poor little frog girl who just wants to sell coffee. Updates twice weekly on Tuesday and Friday. *** Note: This story can get rough. Those warning tags? They aren't for show. I recently received a review and as a result I want to make one thing clear. Portraying something is NOT endorsing it! Many "heavy" topics are touched upon and just because a character says or does something does not imply that the author feels the same way. I selected the "Anti-Hero Lead" and "Villainous Lead" tags for a reason. Rule number one of this story is "no good guys". A good description of the story is, "bad people doing bad things to worse people". There are a few good characters, here and there, but they are the exception to the rule. If you want a hard-hitting, exciting, gritty sci-fi story that doesn't pull any punches, or shies away from "difficult" concepts, welcome! If you are set on a pure and noble knight that runs around and slays conveniently evil monsters and rescues totally innocent princesses... or your sensibilities are easily offended... You're not going to be happy with this one.

Heartstone
Book 1 is complete. Book 2 is currently updating. For centuries, the portal to another dimension remained closed. Now, it is mysteriously open again, and the link between Earth and Heartstone allows us to journey once more to this magical realm. Book 1 - Arwin arrives in Heartstone and meets some lovely damsels who are unfortunately in distress. He faces off against blue blood nobles to help the people of the Blue Region. Book 2 - Arwin befriends Yaz, a talking skeleton and sets off for adventure. But before they get going, they stumble across a tribe of gorgeous nymphs. All seems fun and games until the goblins arrive. This series is a portal fantasy (isekai) that features wordplay and puns and plenty of cultural references. Reminiscient of Piers Anthony's Xanth series and Terry Pratchett's Discworld, but for a more adult audience. Book 1 is also available on Amazon and other online stores. You can also download from Patreon.

Heart of the World (LitRPG)
This is the story of how I stabbed a bear. Well... technically speaking, that became the moment my life went into a vastly different direction, all on my way to 'The Mission'. The one I had been given alongside two other seasoned players. To help people in a world with a world. But, oh hoh, that bear... Don't get me started on that. So, apart from that, here is the gist of the other part. I'm a year long employee. Though, several years before I became an employee of theirs, this crazy ensuing madness of a Full Dive battle royale between even more companies started to boil over to a breaking point. Mine thought to search for something that would truly blow the competition out of the water. Well, they found it. Deep under the sea actually. They called it a game changer. Rumors abounded of course. But the most common knowledge became that it was a power source unlike the world had ever seen. However, I can tell you now, the unknown sometimes bump back. Especially when experimenting on highly unknown elements. Still, years safely went by and thus I became a developer there. Now, what does any of this got to do with stabbing a bear? Well, ask them that! They started it all. I'm new remember! Though, chaos ensued, and well, I was there. It probably helped that I had proven myself a good fighter in game and that I had some knowledge that could help with the triplets. Oh, but my sister would box my ears if she ever realized how little time I spent learning what the other developers created in the game before I had to go in there on, 'The Mission.' So, this is a story of a mission to save the people in Realm of Ancients. Not those rookies! Oh no, that was just a precurser. AND THERE WAS THE BEAR! Sorry, I had trouble getting over it. But that specific moment changed things. -- -- Hi! This is a project I have started for the fun. This is not your typical comedy. Yes, I added quite a bit humour to the story, BUT as things go into the eye of the storm the character will face challenges that hits him down. So it is not comedy in every chapter. But what do they say, when you've hit bottom, only way to go is up! :D I am always open to suggestions that might take the story to new heights, so you all are welcome to discuss the story in the comments. Just remember the all important SPOILER tags. ;) -Omri - I'd truly appreciate if you rate the story and leave reviews as we go. ;)
