《Ode to Freud》Extra Chapter 3: A Frightening Son

Ugh.
I am sore all over. I have even give up my morning routine, but that’s not being enough to get me back on shape.
I have slacked off, haven’t I?
Just a few days of healing and I have already accumulated so much aura damage. If I was still diving head first on labyrinths I would be dead by now.
I should get back in shape.
“Something wrong boss?”
“Ah, nothing. I’m just a bit tired.”
“Are you still doing that healing thing?”
“Yeah. It’s not being much effective though.”
“Still, for you to be able to use it every day like that… as expected of someone who got rank in the adventuring office.”
“Pff. That much isn’t anything. Back in the day I had to do it all days, every day. If something I have grown too weak.”
“Every day?! I heard rank people get it rough, but this much?”
“He. Labyrinths are a hell of a place you know. Being of rank means only you have the minimal skill needed to dive in one of those.”
“I see.”
Guard duty.
I am obviously not free from it. Only the commander has the leisure to spend the whole day training.
I wish I had this much patronage from our Lord. I wouldn’t have become so weak if I could train as I wanted.
Well, it’s life. The village is small. Our militia is only ten people strong and the guard duty can’t be just abandoned to a poor soul while the others train. It would be too bad if something happens and the guard dies before letting the others know.
“But, boss…”
“Yeah?”
“Aren’t your kids too young to learn that?”
“Jacen is a bit young but I guess he can do it if he tries hard. All surely is. He hasn’t even gotten out of his diapers yet.”

“Wait, what… how old is he again?”
“He is going to be three this year.”
“Three? So he won’t be learning it so soon.”
“No. He is the one who is progressing faster.”
“Really? How can he have so much aura to expend like this?”
“Well, he has been training sword swings with his sister from the moment he became able to walk, so…”
“… aah, boss… you really have a frightening child on your house… with this much talent, he may even become an accomplished someday!”
“Haha! Isn’t that right ?!”
An accomplished. Someone who has braved all the floors of a dungeon and conquered the core.
They say most accomplished make a deal with the dungeon core and become dungeon masters.
The living legends, the ones who can merge with the world and become superior beings of the higher caliber. The ones treasured and feared by each and every country in the world as one-man armies. The dungeon masters.
Maybe All indeed have the qualifications for that!
John grinned broadly thinking on the bright future his younger son may have in front of him.
What an amazingly frightening child!
It really feels like he has been blessed by the gods in the heavens. Even if there isn’t such a thing in this world.

[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] The continent of Erdenia is in flux, nations large and small move to swallow their neighbors. Against this backdrop upon the central island of Syroneika exists the Mercan League, an alliance of city states ruled by the Archon from his seat in the Capital, Merlabria. Yet all is not well beneath the surface. The Archon’s health is waning, while the House of Mercan appears on the verge of conflict. Both princes vie for the Archonship, with the aristocracy close behind looking to settle old scores. In the immediate west the Althai Federation is in a state of civil war, the conflict spilling over the border into the League, while nobles’ squabble over petty slights. In this time of growing conflict, the Archon has summoned the warlord of the southern frontier, bulwark against the horrors of the dark forest, and former Grand Scholar of the court. Behind the scenes pieces are in play, and the Scholar possesses numerous enemies, many still envious of his meteoric rise to power. A simple trip to the capital may be more than it appears. However, the branches of fate are fickle things, a single encounter could change the course of history. Or perhaps that is simply the will of fate, and nothing has changed at all, who could know? Shadow Falls
If you wanted to protect someone you loved, how far would you go, and what would you be willing to sacrifice? This question is at the core of this emotional rollercoaster of the book, Shadow Falls: the Rise and Fall of Erida VanIsle. This book emerged from four years of collaborative storytelling centering on the main character, Erida VanIsle, written by author Myra VanIsle. In this book, VanIsle goes beyond the events that led to Erida's sacrifice and explores forty-five years of the cost she paid to protect the sister she loved more than life itself. Shadow Falls explores the family tragedy which led to the separation of two sisters on completely different paths polar opposite of each other. While Erida set upon a path of darkness and power, Myra set out to be a beacon of light and hope bringing justice and peace to others. Be warned, the story VanIsle tells is dark and not easy, because you can't have the light without the dark.
