《Tales of Ishtar》Chapter 1 Part 1 - Leif the thief

I began to turn to meet the gaze of my knight in shining armour.
It was like one of those fairytales where the hero saves the lady in distress, except in my case, the man in distress. He’d arrived to rescue me from the bullying mob.
Why am I geeking out in such a place? Shouldn’t I be more concerned? Whatever worrying too much right now isn’t going to help me.
Oh, hero of mine, I shall name my firstborn after you and remember you as the one who saved me from these bullies forever.
“Hey, hey, right here,” he said. “Can you hear me?”
…
What the hell is that? What happened to his shining armour?? What is he wearing? This guy’s the shadiest of the bunch...
He wore a green robe with a hood that covered his face. I could see a cut on his left eye under the hood. Two large daggers were by his side, and throwing knives hung from his shoulder harness covered his chest... He also carried a lot of poisonous-looking bottles on his belt, as if that wasn’t enough.
He was dressed like a thief or rogue from a fantasy game, yet he was built like a door.
WHY ARE YOU SO BIG?? AREN’T YOU SUPPOSED TO BE A THIEF?
Should I just act as if I can’t hear him?
I might just wait for someone else to save me…
I won’t make it home alive if I go with him.
“Hey, yeah me, hello, how are you?”
FUCK! I can’t play it off anymore…
“O-oh h-hi, yeah, thanks, I’m alright now, don’t worry.”
“Are you sure? You look very lost. Let me help you,” he offered with a kind grin, offering his arm to pull me up and gesturing down the path.

“Follow me to the inn.”
I felt a bit bad for doubting him so much.
Maybe I should go with him…
But I’ll stick to the main path… for… reasons.
Although I can’t be blamed, don’t look so threatening and dress like a thief from an RPG if you want to be trusted. I’m not being judgmental... just cautious, and if it’s all just a dream, what will he do? Kill me?
Why am I raising death flags?? WHY DID I JUST SAY IT? Now he’s gonna murder me for sure. But beyond his shadiest, he made me feel safe, although I’d only just met him for some weird reason. He had a gentle giant aura about him.
“Yeah, s-sure, lead the way, but I should warn you that I have no money.”
“Hahaha, It’s alright little man, it’s on me.”
HE’S MOCKING ME?
He’s no gentle giant. He’s nothing but a jerk.
“LITTLE MAN? IT’S NOT MY FAULT YOU’RE BUILT AS A JENGA GAME GONE FAR TOO LONG. I’ll let you know that 175cm is the ideal height for a person. Anything under it’s a manlet, and anything over is an abomination.”
“HAHAHAHA, let’s get going then.”
I had nothing to do as the crowd began to disperse, so I decided to follow him and attempt to learn as much as I could about this place.
