《Life is not a game: Ice》Chapter 09

Everyone froze on the spot, we all knew what happened last time the blue boxes showed up on their own, docs entire family died, red was saved, but saw how many people died, and I got the most helpless feeling I could have felt. I opened my mouth to speak, doc tried the same but the house shock and with a loud crash from the outside. me and doc fell, while red braced herself on my wall, without a word we all ran outside, to see smaller and bigger cracks outside in the sky glowing yellow and a giant one right over the encampment. seeing a giant creature starting to move through one of the cracks in the sky, doc said “quickly we must get to the encampment and defend it.”
“Crystal, Doc go on I’ll catch up, I got to get my equipment.” I said panicking running back in, grabbing my weapon and armor.
“ all right, get there soon and bring the reinforcements you’ve been hiding in the forest” he said revealing that he knew about my living ice power.
without question, I telepathically called out to my creations to form up at my position, which alpha replied with a ‘yes master I'm glad to serve’. When I was about to run out, I remembered the equipment that I got from the day I evolved my power. I went into my inventory and tried to take out the ice crystal sword, in which when I tried to take it out a new screen popped out.
do not meet requirements to take out you still need
yuki-Onna’s permission
my mouth was agape, I thought I never took it out, so it can stay my ace in the hole but the truth was, that I could not take them out even if I tried, and who is this yuki person it sounds japanese. ordering the normal ice guards to stay and protect kate I run out the house after I decided to name my chef into chef with only one fourth of my power.
reaching the encampment, I can see every one fighting at the gate or fighting to the keep walls up. I left alpha and three others hiding in the woods, so they can ambush any big prey that shows up on the battlefield, leaving me twenty three wolves for the battle and 20 ants for scouts to inform me of anything big showing up, I have them spaced out evenly to alert me of anything big like a radar.
Seeing that the battle is taking its toll on everyone, I order my wolves to flank them from the back killing enough, to lessen the strain for a bit while my wolves still attacked. running up to doc I asked him if he had spirit potions, in which he was confused for a second but then caught my drift and told everyone to give me any spare spirit potions they had, going inside the encampment, I counted twenty one potions. I immediately summoned four ice guards, 2 with spears and two with swords to help with the walls, then after taking a potion, I summoned four wolves to help fight outside the gate and this repeated, alternating between guards and wolf's until I had four potions left. that was when I got an idea, this time summoned four guards but a bit shorter and with halberds, with the next potion I summoned four wolves for the guards to ride which helped the front line a lot, and I kept summoning until my last potion.

Drinking my last potion, I stopped summoning and sat down exhausted due to the constant spirit drain. connecting to alpha I could see the battle perfectly that we were slowly overwhelming them, due to the fact that my ice minions do not have stamina, even though few were killed and the rest of the community was resting to restore their spirit and stamina, my ice troops were powerful enough to fend for themselves, which made me happy to see how powerful I have became, that I am able to protect the ones I chose to.
Half an hour later, we nearly finished off the last of the attackers. As if the world had little care for my happiness having power to protect everyone, the earth shook as something landed, something that wreaked of pure concentrated death. out of fear my body took over before my mind could and dove out of the way as something sweeped behind me trying to kill me. as I looked into the direction, I had no idea what I should feel but all I did feel at the moment, was a fear so big that you lose your fear to stay sane. it was a half spider half girl arachne thing you would see in a game with a bare D chest and silver hair, and looking closer it was called ‘spider queen Reina’. it just flicked it’s wrists and the mess hall went flying along with a giant piece of the wall.
Noticing my current panicked state and the incredibly powerful being in front of me, all of my newly formed troops rushed it and doc with them, although I do not know doc’s ability, I figured he must be like me and hides his power, he is most likely higher than A rank like I am, so I felt quite happy seeing someone like him who is close to me lead the charge. that was until just a few seconds later. I blinked and over half of my troops are shattered and doc is bleeding on the ground struggling to stand up. I was just barely able to see it, while it destroyed the rest of my troops with a large smile on it’s face with fangs sticking out, once it finished it was approaching him with that same smile on its face. even in this little amount of time, I prepared an ice spike to appear under it if it approached doc and once I sent it up into the underside of her spider abdomen, it showed me how weak I truly am, and the worst is, is that it was now looking at me with extreme interest. it ignored doc and simply just stepped on him killing him near instantly and grabbed me before I could even blink.

“oh were you the one who created such interesting toys, at first I thought it was him but I will have you create more and more interesting things for me to slaughter and have fun.” it said happily
that was then when crystal snuck up behind it and punched it as hard as she could. The result was that I was set free and it was flying into the three barracks. I look at her and see giant tear marks and tears on her face. that was then when the spider queen came out without a scratch still smiling. then finally, the weight of the situation hit me, my friend died, again, again due to my lack of power, now I will never see him again with that smile, to learn about his past, since I'm weak. I need to kill it right now, I need to, I won't lose anything anymore, life is not a game, I will kill it even if it kills me.
Nodding at red, she already knew what to do, she jumped up leaving a large dust cloud that covered me, to use my strongest attack, forming a condensed living ice spear in my hand that will explode into thousands of ice needles, once I impale my target. Though forming it will take five minutes, it was playing with crystals insane strength but we both knew, I just need a single good hit to end it.
Hearing a roar, and fire coming out towards arachne, while trent yelled “die bug” it dodged out of the way, I knew then that it was now or never, the speare left my hands and landed in its chest where its heart should be and exploded to tear organs………. however, it just laughed out of amusement.
“haha interesting, but my heart is not there, ha ha interesting”
instantly it moved its hand a bit and Trent became nothing but a bunch of cut up chunks, another swipe killed the ones that were hiding like timothy. looking closely, I could see threads that cut my Friends down, when I was about to scream for crystal to watch out, was when I heard a scream of pain and hatred, as she charged it only to get its arm stuck through her chest. That was when I lost it, I could no longer see clearly due to the overflowing tears, nor could I think clearly because of the pain of losing everyone again, in which the arm piercing in my abdomen couldn't even compare. But when an object of great and malevolent power promises to make good on all the promises the mages broke to him Mar is thrust into the world of magic. Mar will find that fate had something more than a life confined to the library planned for him after all. Authors Notes: I consider this to be a comming-of-age Sword and Sorcery story based mostly on the style of classic western fantasies. So if that's your thing then I encourage you to take a peek. Something I want to mention though is that the main character starts of pretty wimpy, and that might not be your thing. That being said, if you stick with him he's got a long way to grow. Also, while this version of the story is meant to be fully readable, more dicerning readers may want to wait until I move out of rough draft phase. There may be some inconsistancies with character and plot while I am still in the rough draft phase. I'm sorry for this, but this is my first web novel and from what I've read the best way to get a good novel out is to write write write, and then edit ruthlessly after you're finished with the book, so that's the plan I'm going to follow. Again, this is a rough draft. Everything you are reading is subject to change, including the name, title, and cover photo. This may no longer be the case once I've decided I know where this fiction is going and I have a reasonable understanding of the characters and their behavior. You're reading what comes off my keyboard as it's made, with very limited editing. There will be mistakes in the text. I do a quick spell check to take out the worst of the errors, but there will be some I miss. You can point them out in the comments if they are particularly confusing or glaring and I will try to fix them, however I am not overly concerned about minor errors as this is not the final draft by any means.

Long Shadow
No destiny, no choice, no hope. Our protagonist, a coward summoned to a world meant for heroes; a new world with new rules and old cruelties. Join him on his adventures as he must deal with menus, monsters, and mysteries in this litrpg fantasy. Thomas Goodwill was an average boy with an average life, all that changed when he woke up in a new reality. Now, out of his depth, damn near out of his mind, he must learn to survive in a game-like reality with no reloads, checkpoints, or save scumming. He does, however, have a drunk snake. Thank you for reading my first story, hopefully, the first of many to come. This will be my main story and is meant to help me practice and hone my skills as I slowly produce more complex ideas. It's a litrpg in which I want to only lightly focus on the mechanics as I don’t want to pad out the word count with math and number tables and while I want to add a few of my own twists here and there, overall I’m going to keep this story close to generic as possible so that I don't let my inexperience lead me into a corner. Thanks again to all willing to leave a review or some constructive criticism, without you I'd never improve. Unfortunately, Cover art is by me.

Moonblood
Five moons rise over Evanir, each in her own cycle, and each moon is also a god, one of five sisters. Many gods create spirit attendants and companions, brought forth fully-formed. Long ago, the moons worked together to create a lineage that are, instead, humans transformed by the mingling of blood. They intended them to be long-lived and to draw their strength directly from the light of the moon who chose each individual. The five sisters had different goals in mind – one wanted it to be a blessing for scholars and artists, to give them more time and fewer physical distractions; another wanted them to have an animal form, different for each, to keep them more in tune with nature so they could serve as guardians of the wilderness. There are drawbacks to their children having human lives and personalities before being chosen: not all share the goals of their divine mothers, and some choose to put their gifts to darker uses. Those carrying the blood of one woman, fleeing the corruption in search of a quiet life, take a different path. -=-=-=-=- Moonblood isn't so much a novel as a series of adventures of varying length. They involve a core group of people, which does grow over time. They take place in a fairly low-magic world, but despite that, our core cast are directly connected to the moons and have various abilities, including limited shapeshifting to a single individual animal form. As with all my work, unless gender, orientation, or other aspects of sexuality are explicitly stated, I suggest not making assumptions. Probably most significant, I think, is a major trans character who appears about 80K words in - no spoilers, just a note for those who care about that one way or the other.
