《The Human Soul》Chapter 12: Perseverance

Authors note: Sup guys, sorry bit of a boring short chapter today. I'm laying Thabo's foundation and this next part is going to be a game changer so i needed some set up. I've read the comments and thank you guys for taking the time to tell me where I'm going wrong. I'll do my best to improve on my weak points from now. Thanks for your time and here's today's chapter
That match was unbelievably close, if he hadn’t underestimated my control over my magic energy then I don’t think I would have won. My equipment wasn’t much really since I lost most of my bladed weapons I’ve only got my hand gun (glock 19), and some smoke bombs, acid bombs and poison bombs I made out of animal material. Checking through my inventory I’ve only got 5 poison bombs and 4 acid bombs left. I kept them in a small improvised black bag pack, I made it with a zip on the side of the bag so I can reach behind me and take stuff out without taking off my bag. I only got about 2 and a half rounds of bullets left even after recovering some from the guy I just fought… It’s going to be a real tough day I wonder how many fights I’ll have to win this time around.
I’m glad I took the time out to develop new and improved ways to use my magic energy since. I discovered a while back that I’m probably still registered as level one on the system despite all the kills I’ve made, and that’s because the amount of spirit energy I have isn’t going up that much. The only improvements are when I focus and force myself to improve with the ‘breathing technique’. There are really two parts to this spiritual breathing technique; one is gathering natural energy then storing it, second and most important in my opinion is converting it to your own energy.
I say this is the most important part because I realized that converting natural magic to your own is much like fermenting alcohol. The percentage of purity is never 100%. What I mean is most people never convert all the usable energy; they convert maybe 5-7%. Shocking right? That’s over 90% energy wastage on average. As a practitioner improves in either martial arts or magic the percentage goes up. Masters can convert up to maybe 30-35 percent. This is a very important subject for me because I can’t access the system and therefore can’t build my levels. I’m stuck with sealed gates and with the natural limit of the amount of soul energy I can gather and store from the world, 100 units, that’s all, that’s the amount you should have at level 1.

Since I can’t use system skills like [mana gathering] and such I have to develop inner soul skills. Again I won’t go into detail of the anatomy of the soul but there are basically 13 points/parts of the human soul; 7 inside and 6 outside. The important ones here are the three external gates, part of the external soul, and the mana core, part of the internal soul. AGAIN, my connection to the system has been cut by those useless cock sucking bitches so I can’t develop my external gates, so I can only develop my mana core which converts or ‘ferments’ magic.
The amount of pure magic power I have right now is maybe about 45 units whilst the guy I fought probably has about 60 units. Therefore, making my mana core stronger and increasing the percentage of mana purity is vital. Right now I’m at about 34% mana purity. This is actually what saved me today. The guy I fought noticed that I have less power than him but didn’t take my mana quality into account. The level of spells and martials arts you can use go up with mana purity. Usually it’s something like 1-9% amateur, 10-19% intermediate, 20-29% advanced and 30-39% master class. I’m in master class right now so I could use master class material-type spells like particle vibration. Just like the name suggests I can add my energy to molecules and make them vibrate. That’s how I made the fake footsteps earlier, since I had just thought it up on the spot I didn’t think it would work so well but hey life has these little surprises every once in a while even in Hell. Sending your energy out into the ground and spreading over a wide region without your opponent notices is crazy difficult really, plus I was decreasing the vibrations is the smoke screen gas so it doesn’t disperse but gathers in the bottom more.
Thabo: “*sigh* the fight feels so slow and messy now that I look back on it but I was really working hard.”
Shit well with only about 45 units of magic power to work with I think I did pretty fucking well. Now for the rest of my day… at least they give me breaks to gather my magic and recover now, AH! Oh shit I should develop some martial arts with the new vibration control, damn I should have thought of that earlier.

Suddenly a light shoots down out of nowhere and a figure appears out of it. And before Thabo even has a chance to respond to this the figure is standing in front of him.
“You smell like shit. And why the dirty clothes? Your B-type right, clean yourself up this is pathetic.”
Thabo: “!!!?”
Thabo was shocked to the point he could barely speak. In front of him now was a white man in his mid-twenties, brown hair, brown eyes, no special facial features, probably of American origins or whatever Hell had that was similar. The man was wearing formal clothing in a casual way. He wore black suit pants and black shoes, a light blue shirt with his sleeves folded up and his top bottom unfastened with no tie on. His hair was neatly combed back and he stood with his hands in his pockets. He had on a cold hard look that would put of even the friendliest of people and didn’t bother looking at Thabo as he spoke.
“My names Zain, Admin Zain, I don’t really care if you remember since your probable either already mad or brain dead by now, so just get up, shut up, and follow me without saying a thing understood?”
Thabo: “…”
Admin Zain: “Answer me when I speak to you.”
Thabo: “I heard you.”
Admin Zain: “Good, then follow.”
They began walking with Thabo following behind Admin Zain obediently. He didn’t know what to make of the situation. He had not been killed on the spot so he listened to Zain’s order, but he didn’t trust him, Thabo Could tell that Admin Zain thought he was less than dirt. The only problem is there’s nothing else to do other than just walk, but after only a few minutes Admin Zain stopped walking.
Admin Zain spotted in front of a section of wall that was different than the rest, it was gold, he could tell that this place was special for the amount of power circulating here. The suddenly Admin Zain put his hand against the Golden wall and it began to glow. He seemed to input a security code and then moved back to Thabo.
Admin Zain: “Get in”
He said as he pointed to a part of the wall that was glowing with a circular shape.
Thabo: “W,why? What’s in ther-“
*BANG*
Admin Zain smacked him with one move that pushed him all the way to the wall slamming him into the glowing circular door.
Congratulations! You have been given a special chance to upgrade from white-class to Gold class!
Thabo: “*Coughs blood* W…wait! What!???”
You will now begin Hells’ pilgrimage.
The golden light flashed brighter and Thabo disappeared. Zain then turned around and began walking away.
“Hey~ there aren’t you supposed to be his guide or something? I mean you didn’t even prepare him, no, honestly you didn’t say anything you just threw him in there.”
A young sounding female voice rang out.
Admin Zain: “For what? Everyone knows that this so called ‘test’ is impossible to pass. Even if you or me went in we’d probably fail without putting up a fight.”
“Is that so~ I wonder that one was pretty impression. I mean he came here two years ago and is already taking this test, I mean from white to gold? Didn’t he jump a few citizenship levels there.”
Admin Zain: “He’ll only be Gold if he passes, don’t make assumptions.”
“And this so called ‘test’ isn’t about raw power, that’s why anyone could pass or fail it. You shouldn’t make assumptions either.”
Admin Zain: “...”
