《THE CHRONICLES OF THE LOST HERO》Chapter 3Town of Castdrol

The following day both companions carried on there training. Trying to see what other abilities might be able to do. The young girl Nuwa focusing on her mind again. Unlike last time a different word came into her mind teiku furaito with a picture of a single blue robin in the air.
Standing still young Nuwa again whispered the words that when seen with little confidence. The wings on her back grew in size and before the young girl knew what happening. Her feet took off from the ground. Looking down she noticed that she was getting farther from the ground every second. What was going not being able to control what was happening.
Nuwa started to panic which caused her to go flying every which way possible. After about four minutes flying all over the place uncontrollably. The young girl flight gave out over the lake side. Which caused her to fall splash in the water which broke her fall. Lucky she was not to high up or the water would have been like hitting bricks.
Reku attempt to wrap a vine around her to bring her down but with no prevail. Every time he got close to get her she would end up flying another direction. If it was not for the fact Nuwa didn't know how to control where she went. Flying could be used for many helpful things. All she would have to do is practice to learn to control it.
It made Reku little envious seeing the young girl being able to fly. Even if she could not control it being able to go into the sky. Must of been quite the experience but looking at Nuwa
coming out of the water wet. She looked like she was scared to death of the experience. Walking up to the little girl he led her to the fire to dry off.
“Nuwa I know that was frightening for you but you just need to practice more. The more often you do the better you will get at flying. As the saying goes practice makes perfect. So no need to be so scared love” said Reku trying his best to cheer the young girl up.
“ What if I can't get hang of it Reku. Going up in the air like that is so scary being off the ground. Reku what is love why you called me that?” asked Nuwa
“I know it's scary but only way to get over one's fear. Is to do it again and again. Each time you do what you afraid of will make it easier every time. You want to know what love is was it never taught to you. It means that someone cares for you very deeply like family.” replied Reku little surprised by the question.
“So you think of me as family?” asked Nuwa blushing happy to hear what he heard.
“Yes of course you are like family. We been spending a lot of time together after all. How could I not think of you as family.” answered Reku while patting the young girl on the head and smiling.
Remembering what Kuruzome said few days before. That using abilities were about word play. Made Reku think what if he tried using different words together. Looking at the mannequins Reku tried muttering the words that Nuwa said the day before. Sui isshi but nothing happen maybe it was because he didn't have same attribute skill.
Maybe all he had to do is figure out which of the words made arrow. He could mix that with another attribute to make different skill. So Reku sat there trying to figure out which words were attributes. What words made it take form. For hour Reku sat trying to dicier what each word meant that the two used so far.
This took a lot out of him making him feeling exhausted. More he did the conclusion came to him that the words took energy or power themselves when said. The words were themselves were power. The two decided to take a break and have lunch early that day. Mostly cause he got worn out from deciphering what each word meant.
After eating and resting for short time. Believing he knew what the word for arrow meant and fire. He looked at the small stick animal feeling a burning sensation. Which made him come to the conclusion that it meant fire along. Faia isshi and as he believed a arrow formed with a burning tip. From what the Nuwa did the day before. He made a motion of throwing and as soon as his arm reached all the way out.
The arrow took and in an instant the arrow struck the dog shaped sticks. Making it catch on fire and burn bright. The arrow just protruded in the animal unlike the acid one which went in. showed that Kuruzome was right about word play.
That brings the question on how does one learn what words made what shape. Besides the fact that in each door had certain skill. Only reason he knew how to make the arrow form. Was cause Nuwa learned it while focusing on conscious.
So how do one learn all the words needed to make different forms. Maybe the only way to truly learn was to absorb energy from other animals. This way one might be able to learn a new ability from them. That or hope one could pick up a new word from someone else.
Guess the way to find out is to head out and hunt again. At least this way he could get little more combat experience. First though he should head to the town that Kuruzome told him about. That way at least he could see what they sold as armor for both of them. Not sure how the currency worked in this world. They had the hand full of coppers and two silver coins. Along with the uncut emerald and rune stone.
Sitting down that night with Kuruzome and Nuwa that night. Reku discussed with them about leaving for the town and see what they had. That may come in handy for the future. It always best to be prepared. Listening to what Reku thought Kuruzome expressed his concern.
“Reku going there please be safe on the way there it is two days walk away. Not all places are safe as it is a human town you you may not be welcomed. If they find out your not one of them they could in slave you or kill you. If going please be careful if and as I'm sure you take Nuwa with you.
As it obvious she is not human I recommend if asked she is your slave. They can not find out otherwise no telling what they would do.” Kuruzome informed the two.
Reku got up early the next day and went to gather supplies for the next few days. Reku found many several mushrooms and berries. Which he stuffed in one of the pouches he had. Thinking at what he all gathered he noticed he need some meat. So gathering a few large tree leaves he went back to the lake side. Reku used his lighting whip to hit the lakeside water. The electricity running from the whip. Electrified part of the water making nearby fish to float to the top of the water paralyzed. This made fishing much easier than trying to catch them with his hands or paws.

Wrapping the fish up in the leaves Reku sat them in the fire to roast. Which was the last thing need before setting out with Nuwa. Around the same time Reku finished all the two sat out on their journey. Nuwa was quite excited to be able to go see a human city with Reku.
Any time she was with Reku it made her happy. Saying goodbye to Kuruzome the two companions set out on their journey. During the first night after starting there travel. Both Reku and Nuwa practiced to see how many times they could you there abilities. Before they came mentally exhausted from using the spells to many times.
Reku slowly learned from experience that each spell had a different toll on mental strength. So he practiced the fire arrow to see he could cast it six times before exhaustion hit him. Reku figured that more he practiced maybe more he could use. That or maybe he had to absorb more orbs.
He would have to test these two theories to see if either helped. Laying down to rest after training the two closed there eyes. Later that night a strange howl woke the companions up. Jumping up Nuwa looked around eagerly to try to find where the howl came from. When something jump out from the darkness and clawed Nuwa across her chest.
Blood lightly coming out of the cuts across her chest from what looked like claw marks. Reku rushed to her side but on his way again something jump out of the shadows. To slice his across his lets. Whatever these creatures were they had speed in there favor.
The two companions face back to back trying to find out were the assailants were attacking from. What animals was brave enough to think of them as prey. Whatever it was the two of them would not go down without a fight. Is all Reku knew if these creatures were brave enough to attack them. Then Reku had no issues of turning these creatures into a orbs.
Trying to find out where these creatures are attacking form was the main issue thought Reku. Trying to figure out how to solve the problem while guarding Nuwa. Only way to keep them enemy from attacking from the shadows. Was to light the place up.
Looking around for something to brighten up the area but seeing a few bushes. Aiming for the bush Reku reach deep down and yelled with all his might. To get the brightest fire possible FAIA TAMA and a fire ball size baseball formed. Rushing forward the ball of flames hit the bush. With a burst the bush sent small flames in all direction. That caught any bushes and grass nearby on fire.
With the area lit up the two companions could see that it was a single gigantic wolf stood in front of them. It stood about four feet tall with snow white hair. Mouth wide open and teeth bearing at the two travelers. It leaped toward Nuwa and slashing its claws at her.
Quickly pushing her out of the way of the claws. The giant wolf was not without merit. Cause Reku may have pushed Nuwa out of the way just in time. His right arm got the brute of the wolf's claws ripping threw his arms muscle.
The cut caused severe pain hit him soon as the claws cut his arms. Quickly as possible Reku ripped part of his shirt off wrapping it around the wound tight as possible. To keep any more blood from rushing out.
This creature was very deadly if one of them didn't think of something soon. Then it would certainly kill them. Reku trying to think what best to do. So they could defeat the enemy.
Nuwa furious that at the creature for hurting the closest person as family. Feeling like she would lose the one she cared the most about. Calling on the power inside Doko tama and a purple ball bubbling formed. It was around a foot in all directions and look like years of food slop been combined. Something no one would pant to eat.
Aiming it with all her mental strength. Nuwa sent the disgusting ball in the direction of the wolf. The wolf attempted to dash out of the way. Just not moving fast enough it got hit on its rear back. The wolf flinch for a moment from the attack. Besides that it didn't seem like the attack had much effect.
Seeming what the young girl did and acting with the chance Reku looking for. He uttered the words inabikari hoippu summing the electricity into his hands. Lashing the whip repeatedly at the white wolf. All it could do was try to dodge running and moving left to right. Trying its best to stay one step ahead and not get hit.
Soon as the giant wolf stop for a split second. To turn toward and charge at the attacker. That was all Reku needed to wrap the electric whip around its leg. Once the whip hit the wolf electric sparks were flying out around the animal's body. Whimpering from the pain after just moments of the whip around the animal's leg.
The whip disappeared just seconds of being on the wolf's leg. Them seconds though could tell did serious damage to the wolf. Growling and baring its teeth at Reku furious at being hurt. From the one it was hunting.
The giant wolf could only think was it was the king of the region. Yet, for some reason he was losing against two simple creatures one a human and a child. It truly was shameful he could not let these creatures get away with this. If nothing else the wolf planed to take the big one down with him.
Making a final dash toward the red headed human. The fox was about to leap when his vision started to blur. What was happening he was sure the whip only did minimal damage. Yet here hardly being able to stand and see. With every passing moment his energy was being sucked dried.
Was there a trick to the whip? No! It must have been that first attack eyes widening open noticing that the first attack must have been what doing it to him. Even though it barely hit him. The attack must have had some kind of effect. That was causing all his life energy to be drained out of him. This was truly a disgrace to be done in by a child and skinny human.
Thinking about this made him feel disgusted by the creatures before him. All he could do is curse them but the fault was on himself he knew it. To underestimate the enemy matter how small one should never do. Long before he was taught this by father but here he stood for not obeying the teaches of his kind.
Staring at the wold before them stumbling after half reaching him. The giant snow wolf just stopped half way toward him. Now it just stumbling Reku was sure the giant wolf was about to pounce. Just moments before what could of happen not taking the chance. Reku chanted the words faia isshi four times. Making four large mystical arrows float above his hand circling each other.
Without any hesitation in case the wolf shook off what was happening. Reku sent the arrows toward the wolf. As soon as the arrows flew toward the wolf they protruded the wolf mane. The flame from the tip of the arrow seemed to seal the wound on entry. Even if it sealed the wound. One of the shots was must fetal as the arrow went right thru the wolf's neck.
Quickly summing another fire arrow. Reku instead of letting it float above his hand he grabbed it. Then took of the bandage on his arm. Pressing the flame tip against the wound to seal the gruesome claw cut. The pain from the flame was nothing compared to the agony the wolf claw gave him.
This creature was truly fearsome if it did not stop that split second. Reku was sure that both him and Nuwa would have been the creature's dinner that night. Taking the flame arrow he walked up to Nuwa and having her sit on the ground. He informing her it would hurt immensely but it seal the wound. While also keeping the chances of infection low.
Feeling the burning tip of the arrow touch her skin. Nuwa couldn't help but pull away. She was not use to pain like this. She was happy Reku was fine. Her heart felt like it was going to break. When Reku pushed her out of the way and got his arm clawed opened. She just didn't want anymore of the people she loved to be hurt because of her.
After treating Nuwa and wrapping up brother of their wounds. Reku seen that the giant wolf spiritual orb was revealed. It almost looked like the color of the moon. With a white wolf on the outside. Making sure it was ok with Nuwa Reku sat down to absorb the orb.
It was a truly fearsome creature and he didn't want to waste the opportunity get little stronger. Concentrating Reku welled the orb to him. Absorbing it was a lot easier the the first time he did but at same time. It felt like the wolf wanted to get little more revenge in. Every moment taking in the energy felt like the wolf was clawing at his inside.
When Reku finally finish taking in all the wolf energy. He could tell that the wolf was truly powerful. Reku slender body tone was turned into a well fit body. In the process of absorbing the beast he also found out what the creatures race was. Called Amarok a race of giant wolves. Which when full grown they go live there race alone.
Only time they are with their father or mother is when they find a mate. Yet even then they do not stay together shortly after the leave the other after birth. On some occasions the two will fight and kill the other. To take over the others territory believing weak creatures are only good for food.
Amarok tend to hunt in the shadows and lone travelers or creatures they deem weak. Absorbing the creature Reku could tell his strength improved. Also he could tell he got a new skill but unknown yet what it was.
Looking at the wolfs pure white coat. Reku pulled out a sharp stone knife he made days before. Slowly he skinned the wolf fur skin off and rolled the fur up like a rug. Tied the fur with extra vines he brought to be safe. Which would make it a lot easier to carry.
When Reku finished tying the fur and throwing it on his back the sun rise was already on them. So the two decided to start heading for the city again. Reku noticing the two times he has fought it almost died both times and have got injured. When they reach the city. He would have to try to find some medical herbs. That or something that works for healing in this world.
The walk that day with Nuwa was more difficult than the day before. The two still had at least a full day walk till they reach the city. It was much slower traveling toward the city then the first day. Every step taken was painful for both of them. It felt like a thousand needles stabbing at the wounds with every step.
It was already dark outside when the two crossed over a large hill. In the distance the two seen torches burning on the the towns wooden walls. With what looked like small ants walking across it. From what Reku could figure was the town was around one or two clicks away. So what he could figure it take another hour and they would reach the city.
Looking upon the seen in front of him was truly untouched for the civilized world he known. It almost looked like
an town area to keep the animals and bandits away from the town. It was understandable the creatures in this world was truly dangerous. If a group of these creatures attacked a town like this. A lot of humans would end up dying and it could take several days to get reinforcements to help defend the town.
The question that came into Reku mind was simply the fact. Was it possible that they would allow two non humans in the city. Even though in his other life he was a human. Now he was what called a kitsune a nine tailed fox like creature. Known as a race of tricksters.
This world was truly amazing to Reku everything was beyond what a human in his world could imagine. The last two clicks did not take seem to take very long. With the motivation of being so close to the town they doubled there speeds to reach the city.
Reaching the town wall the two companions looked upon the wall. it stood a whopping ten feet tall. The gate looked like it could hold off any small raiding party. Standing at the gate one of the guards called down to them. Only able to see the outline of two figures at the bottom of the gate.
“travelers what is business here are you friend or foe.” called them voice partly trembling afraid it could be a trap. Since almost none travel during the night. The reason was that some of the most dangerous creatures hunted there prey at night. Not being able to see during the night. Caused many of men to die trying to defend themselves against the beast.
Calling back at the guards loud as he could. “We are simply travelers coming to find food and shelter for the night. While in the morning pick up some supplies to make our travels a little easier.” answered Reku trying to seem as if he knew what all towns had to offer.
As this was his first time seeing a town in this world. Reku thought best to mention just the basic amenities. Which seemed to work in the next moments the large wood gates swung opened. Standing on the other side was a group of four men holding spear and wearing yellow cloth tunics.
The head guard waved the two companions in giving a evil look to Nuwa. Like he was discussed by her appearance which irritated Reku. Trying to keep his rage to himself he decided to keep a low profile for now. He would find the supplies he need and try not to overstayed his welcome in this city.
Putting his arm around Nuwa. Reku urged her onward to try to get far away from the town guards as possible. The two looked for any sign of a inn or place to rest. Most of the building they past looked well kept and made of stone. Many of the building were around two stories with two windows on each side of the house. Outside each door was a small light fixture. With a candle that helped light up the streets.
The town gave Reku a sense of dread like any moment something could go wrong any moment. Having this feeling made Reku want to find a place to stay more. So they could get out of the streets. From what the guard look he gave Nuwa showed their distaste for non humans. Kuruzome was right on the fact they should not find out he was not a human.

NEVER SPLIT THE PARTY: The Adventures of The Creeping Bam (BOOK ONE: The Job)
TAO is a broken world held together with nothing but magic and the will of the gods who protect it and its people. Then thousand years ago THE SUNDERING struck and Tao was almost torn apart by a terrible magical cataclysm which resulted in the planet almost being halted in its journey through the cosmos. It took all the power the gods of Tao could muster to restore its orbit and set it turning again, but in their efforts it was forever changed – its axis was drastically altered, and it now spins in such a way that one face of the world is forever turned from the sun it orbits, leaving half the planet in perpetual darkness. The various humanoid races that survived and now thrive within the habitable parts of THE DAY LANDS have come to live in perpetual fear of what lives beyond THE BORDERLANDS that separate them from whatever dwells within THE NIGHT LANDS, but for ten millennia it has kept its secrets. The land of RUNDAO languishes under the rule of their warlike Northern neighbours, the TEKTEHRAN EMPIRE, while a small, ragtag band of motley adventurers ply their mercenary trade fighting monsters and protecting the common man from the various dangers that haunt the night and prowl the hinterlands on the edges of civilization. THE CREEPING BAM have amassed a modest reputation in their years together, but they’re still just a small-time party of sellswords, thieves, outcasts and mages. They’re also exactly the kind of underdogs the people of Tao doesn’t yet realise are needed to save the world from the encroaching darkness they doesn’t even know is coming … This is a love letter and homage to the high-fantasy worlds of the tabletop RPGs like Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder and Warhammer and the sword & sorcery cinema and literature I fell in love with as a kid growing up in the 80s, from Robert E. Howard’s Conan the Barbarian (and the awesome Schwarzenegger movie, STILL my favourite fantasy film EVER), The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit and Ron Howard and George Lucas’ Willow, to the more grown-up and edgy worlds of grimdark masters George RR Martin and (my all-time favourite) Joe Abercrombie, as well as a BIG DOLLOP of Terry Pratchett’s immortal Discworld series. IMPORTANT: This story contains material which some readers may consider to be mature, such as battle violence, some strong language and occasional mild sexual scenes. If this is not your kind of thing, this story is not for you. I am also serializing this story on Tumblr, Wattpad, Quotev and Sweek.
