《Draugur》Chapter Four: Iridessa

I watched as the Zarian Vice-Admiral finished his called to one, Marcus Haze. My active camo concealing my presence amongst the clothes within his wardrobe, my sight peering through the gap of the ajar door. My awareness of the target separated itself from all external signatures. As my life perception magic allowed me to know the vital signs and see the internal structure of the person I focused on.
His diminishing life essence shone dimly to me, and I blinked as I saw the large cancerous tumour on his brain. I felt as if I should query my guild leader on this. What was the point of killing a dying man, I would’ve asked. And she would’ve replied to me with, dying doesn’t mean he’s dead Iridessa.
But Soshan’s mission for me was information extraction. The Vice-Admiral was a friend of Marcus Haze indeed. And now I knew where the unstable colonel was going. I didn’t know why Soshan wanted the mark captured, but supposedly he had wronged a client of the guild. Therefore Marcus Haze’s life was mute, and entirely in my hands to do with as I pleased.
“Find him, and bring him to me no matter the cost. The soulless await this one,” had been Soshan’s command of me. And as a fire sprite assassin. I was well tempered to chasing anyone across the galaxy. The Vice-Admiral ducked down to retrieve something from a draw in his desk and I froze. My right hand instinctively lowering to the slim blade on my left hip.
A shot resounded a second after the section just above my head exploded in a shower of varnish wood. My camo broke as I moved, diving out from the wardrobe my sword skidding out of its sheath and igniting the super-heated edge in a blaze of orange fire. A second shot boomed and I whipped my blade diagonally up from my left and parted the berinium round in two.

They whizzed past me and I felt the air sizzle by my face.
Vice-Admiral William Hopkins hopped out of his chair and sprinted for the exit, his pistol barking fire at me, and I easily deflected or dodged the bullets. I ran and slid over to his desk and flip it to use as cover. A loud alarming and continuous beep went off as I did so.
The crafty Vice-Admiral had rigged his desk with a trip explosive, connected to the floor. The thin corded wire, flailed a split second before I jumped backwards and was hit by the forceful concussive wave emanating from the explosive. I saw William Hopkins dive out of his quarters a second before I hit the glass window and shot out into the night sky.
I lashed out and planted my blade into the stone structure and halted my momentum. Planting both feet, I sprung backwards and ignited my wings. They roared out of my back and I glided out to bank a circle around the building. My blade loosing it’s heated edge as I diverted my fire to my wings.
Scanning the building I saw through a plume of smoke, William Hopkins just down the corridor from his quarters. I reached behind my lower back with my left hand and gripped my shorter blade. He turned and glanced in my direction an instant before I soared over and smashed through the glass, both of my blades extended to take his head clean off.
The man snapped off three shots and I jolted as we connected with each other.

Hazelsong: A LitRPG Novel
Release Schedule: I will be moving to a set release schedule as of 1/1/2022. A new chapter will be released every Saturday at Noon EST. If I have time that week for a second chapter, I will leave a note on the Saturday chapter and post the second chapter on Sunday at Noon EST. An up to date character sheet for the MC Erik will also be posted on Sundays at 12:15 PM. If life happens and I am for some reason unable to write that week, I will post a blank chapter giving you an update on where I am with my writing. Saturday Noon EST: First weekly chapter Sunday Noon EST: Second weekly chapter (if I have the time) Sunday 12:15 EST: Updated character sheet Synopsis: Years after surviving a deadly accident, Erik struggles to come to terms with his painful disability. When offered the chance to playtest the world's first full immersion VRMMO, he wants nothing more than to retreat back into his secluded life, until he learns what Hazelsong really offers. An escape from the pain. Hazelsong is a world of magic and adventure, a place where friendships are formed, loot is won, and glory and fame are there for the taking. While the threats feel real and the stakes are always high, there is only one thing Erik is really in danger of. Forgetting which world is actually real. Story Themes: Hazelsong is a LitRPG novel that not only explores the fictional world of a realistic online fantasy realm but the life of a man suffering in silence from chronic pain and PTSD due to a significant physical injury and disability. Mental health is an important subject and we all know at least one person in our lives who has or is dealing with some form of mental illness. I plan on putting my best effort forward to represent these illnesses in a fair and accurate manner. Not as a cheap plot device to help make the protagonist more unique, but to help paint an accurate picture for those of us who have been lucky enough to not have to suffer in silence. About the Author: I am Ash Durra, general video game nerd and a connoisseur of fantasy and sci-fi of all shapes and sizes. Needless to say, I am not a professional author (B.S. and M.S. in Education, 8 years teaching). After really getting into LitRPG novels over the past several years, I found my way to Royal Road, which has inspired me to use my spare time to begin writing a story of my own creation. As this is a hobby, I am not writing and posting chapters on any kind of specific schedule at the moment, though my goal is to post on average 1-2 chapters a week. I am incredibly excited to share this story with others as I write it, and I look forward to any constructive feedback about how I can improve in my writing.

The Novel's Extra's Extra
As a reader, Cristopher always looked for things that entertained him, didn't matter what the "critics" said, all that matters was his own opinion on the novel, so he started reading "The Novel's Extra", a webnovel that despicts an author who is transmigrated to his own novel. It was fun and all with its own good and bad points, really, one of his favorites novels at the end of the journey, and that's taking into account the little fact that he didn't have too many things he was able to enjoy, not in that empty shell that was called life for him... Why could someone be born like that? With a void inside, an endless void that slowly consumes oneself... But... for better or worse... everything changed one day, the same day he woke up to discover he had the same faith of the author whose novel he just finished reading, becoming an extra in a novel, becoming The novel's extra's extra... /Ok, now that's the description I thought of... first of all, for those of you who are reading this, if any, a few points I have to make clear: 1. I'm not an english native speaker, so if you find anything wrong in the text, please let me know, that would help me learn, and I would be thankful for that.2. I'm writting this out of pure "enjoyment", so while I'll try to be constant, I'll not make any promises.3. True reason why I'm writing this is because I'm going through a moderate to crippling depression right now (and no, is not because anything trully bad and horrendous happened to me, it seems to have something to do with my brain's malfuctioning, among other things), and doctors told me to try writing as I enjoy reading. So yeah, this is more like a self-help excercise, to keep myself distracted while trying to be safe from my self.4. I choose to make a fanfiction of "The Novel's Extra" as I don't trully know how to write, and because I really loved that webnovel, though there are some points I didn't particulary liked.5. If you see some (let's be clear, really much) self insertion on this series, well, that may be me trying to escape reality, to which I make an early warning and disclaimer, and also ask for forgiveness, as I said before, this is more of an excercise, so don't take it too serious.6. I'll be a slow writer, as I have to still check a few things from the novel, even when I've read it like 3 or 4 times already, and because I know shit about writing a novel or a series.7. If you get to enjoy this, then that's good, I would be glad about it, maybe even more motivated, but I don't really expect this to be any good. Thanks to you all who may, or may not, be reading this novel./
