《Lancastre Academy》Book 2 Dealing with Water - Chapter 12 - Where's Hailee?

"What do you mean she just vanished?" Alexis practically yelled her question at him. "People don't just vanish Caleb."
"Um... Alexis? You can vanish, remember?" Parker pointed this out to her as she tried to shake answers out of Caleb. After he spoke Alexis stopped for a moment and thought.
"Wait, maybe she is an Omni then. I know she hadn't showed any signs yet but maybe this is the first sign of it. Kind of like mine, I accidentally froze a room. Maybe hers is starting with an accidental control of her Space Imperial."
Parker thought for a long moment before speaking his mind. "Maybe... all of our issues with our Imperials so far have been tied to our emotions." He turned to Caleb and asked, "What were you two talking about before she disappeared?"
Caleb's face turned a bright red when Parker asked him what they were talking about. The last thing he wanted to do was tell the group what Hailee had wanted to talk to him about. "I think she just got embarrassed. She apologized for the way she was acting and then poof, gone."
"That's it?" Alexis asked. She glared at Ana while she had her back turned. She knew that it was Ana's fault that this was happening. "We need to find her."
"Where do we even start though? This place is enormous," Caleb thought hard about where she could be. "And that's assuming that she stayed in the castle."
Alexis ran to check their dorm room to see if she ended up in there. She returned to the common room with no luck. "She wasn't there..."
"Is there anywhere here that she likes to go to get her thoughts together? That's where I would go if I was embarrassed." Alexis looked at Ana as she spoke, a little upset that she was chiming in. She tried not to show her current dislike for Ana, but Parker caught a hint of it.

"Parker, come with me, I think I might know where she is." Parker shrugged and followed her toward the common room entrance.
"Should we come?" Caleb asked.
"You keep looking around here for her, in case she shows up."
Parker noticed that she talked directly to Caleb and didn't acknowledge Ana at all. He followed her through the entrance and down the corridor. He figured he would wait a little bit before he started talking. She was walking quick enough that he was having trouble keeping up. "Hey, slow down a little."
Alexis pushed forward as she sped down the hallway. "I'm not slowing down! I think she's on the bridge and I want to get there before she disappears from there too."
"Why are you giving Ana the cold shoulder? What'd she do?"
At those questions Alexis slowed down a little so she could look at Parker as she spoke. "She's the reason Hailee is embarrassed. She's mad at the way Caleb stopped talking to her, the fact that she's liked him since last year and he hasn't noticed. She took him to the roof so she could tell him how she felt. That's why she's so embarrassed."
"Oh—" Parker didn't know what to say or if he could add anything helpful to the conversation so he kept quiet as they rushed to the bridge.
When they got there, Hailee was crying looking down into the lake. The tears that fell off her face made ripples in the water.
"Hailee," Alexis mouthed as she sat down and put her arm around her.
"It'll be okay..." Parker said sympathetically as he sat down on the other side of her and squeezed her knee.
"We're here for you Hailee." The three of them sat there for an hour staring out over the lake without saying anything. The moon was high in the sky at this point, and they knew they weren't supposed to be out here.

"Hailee, I think we should go in before we get in trouble—" Alexis suggested.
Hailee turned and looked at her. "I can't face him—" she thought about what had happened and disappeared from between them. Parker and Alexis were now staring straight at each other.
"What..." was all Parker could muster. "Where..."
Alexis was too stunned to speak for a moment. "I think that she travels through space when she gets overly embarrassed. I mean, it kind of makes sense, doesn't it? Like when you do something embarrassing you just wish that you were somewhere else completely."
"Yeah, that makes sense," Parker said thinking back to when he had called Alexis Lex. He wished that he could've been anywhere else than standing right in front of her. "I've done that before definitely." He could tell based on the grin Alexis had that she was thinking of the same thing he was.
"My guess is she's in our room now. That's the only way she can go back without having to face Caleb. I'll check and let you know."
They made their way back to the common room where Caleb and Ana were still waiting on them. "Did you find her? You've been gone for over an hour!" Parker could hear the worry in his voice. Alexis went back to the girls' room to check, and Parker gestured for Caleb to follow him to the balcony.
The breeze was chilly as they looked out over the lake. "Hey, I think you should give her a little space just for a day or two. She's really embarrassed about what happened. Alexis and I both think that this new Imperial is tied to embarrassment. We could be wrong but I think that it's safest for her right now if you give her a little space."
Caleb didn't say anything, but he nodded and left the balcony. Parker turned around to see him vanish down the boys' corridor to their room. Ana was still sitting by the fire. He walked in and took a seat next to her without saying anything. They sat for several silent minutes when Alexis returned.
"She's in there. She'll be fine."
"Okay good. We should all get some sleep; we can talk more tomorrow since we don't have class."
Ana's head whipped toward them. "What do you mean?"
"Oh yeah, I keep forgetting that you're a first year and don't actually know a whole lot. The day after all exams is a free day for everyone to enjoy and relax a little." She smiled, clearly pleased that they had a day off.
