《Nagol: The Skeleton King》04 Trial and Error

The Sixth day had passed and now I was prepared to greet Coral. I had leveled up all of my lichs to 5, while getting my bodyguard lich Varik to level 10. I had thought about a strange name like Steve, Bob, or Richard but narrowed it down between Nar and Varik ending it with a coin toss, He was now a force to be reckoned with.

I gave him 2 level 5 giants (100cp), 10 level ? wraiths (250cp), 10 level 50 Orc skeletons (250cp), 200 level 50 human skeletons (200cp) giving him 222 undead. The best part about this set up was this little group of undead only cost me 150cp. I thought it was useful that his name changed accordingly apparently he gained some free will after I named him, ordering the other liches to stand straight in my presence. The lesser undead's stats were evened out around this.

Human Villager's have 15-25 H.P. and 1-5 M.P. while conscripts have 80-125 H.P. and 50-100 M.P. Normal soldiers would have 250-1000 H.P. and 100-1000 M.P. depending on their class and level. My forces could almost rival a regiment of human soldiers. This was not bad, normally undead have to have a vast majority of the forces on any given battlefield.
If I wanted to fight a normal Legion of forces I would need 4-8 times the Level one variant's to even stand a chance. Undead don't usually kill your soldiers until a few hours of battle had passed, the only real threat that came from undead were Spirits, Liches and unique undead. the normal stratagem was to outlast the undead while sending shock troopers to kill the Spirits and liches.
I could create a wave of level 1 liches and send them in to cover the level 5 liches making it appear that the undead are fallowing the normal strategy, I would need to find actual corpses to make this work, my undeads bodies evaporate making it hard to believe they are normal undead.
I have 99 level 5 lichs with their current stats I was satisfied that they would work perfectly.

My own stats had changed but I was still not making progress with experience this left me frustrated. I was usually on the front lines, leading by example but now I needed to stay away from the front lines. I thought I would be alright with this predicament but now I was virtually useless. unable to change the outcome of a fight with my own power.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
The three new -Skills- caught me off guard, I was happy to get an additional 750cp to my liches allowing them to control more undead. I began to consider my options, create more liches, increase my current liches levels, or practice my other spells like -Bone Spear- -Bone Cage- or -Death Spear- looking closely at -Siphon- I found it had two effects, I could spend M.P. to heal my undead or just sap them of life to heal myself.
I decided it was a wise investment to create more Liches, I created 200 more lichs keeping them at level 1-2, while giving them level 1-5 undead. I also needed more undead to increase my M.P. and C.P. I still don't know what level my Wraiths are at, but the ones I increase the most are in my body guard squad, I was now capped at 6,000 CP.
I had noticed the decrease in experience gain for the human and orc skeletons around level 25, at 50 they stopped leveling completely. I would sigh if I had lungs but I was content with the circumstances, complaining about the bottle cap would be like biting the hand that feeds you. Instead I silently thanked the gods that placed me here.
with my 300 Lich's I now only had a few hours before sunset. I had not explored the Fortress and boredom became a new found companion. The fort was nestled in a large Plateau along a chain of gaint sharp rocks. giving the fortress a natural defense. The fort had three courtyards with three different layers of walls.
The first wall is at the base of the mountain with the largest courtyard behind it. the two outer walls are 30ft tall and 8 feet thick, having a semi hallow inside allowing for archers to use the walls many portholes to rain death on their enemies. the wall came close to a steep incline making it almost imposable to reach with ladders, the only real path led to the main gate.
after this was another incline with a set of stairs leading to the secant wall. The difference between the outer wall and this wall was the natural caltrops of jagged rocks leading to the wall, like before the only real path was the stair way. The courtyard behind this wall had many houses and buildings, forges armories and storehouses.
The last wall was probably the most daunting 45ft tall and 15ft thick the top of the wall jetted out slightly, and had sharp edges along its surface. The portholes each had a separate room behind it with a ballista and several bows with enchanted arrows. If my memory about sieges serves me right, it would take around 350,000 veterans with a detachment of 25,000 mages and 50 paladins to take this fort.
The Paladin class was rarer than Mages every 1,000,000 people were born with this class and usually lived passed 250 years old, some even lived to be 500 years old, the oldest being a 10,000 year old man whom is currently serving the king of Order as his bodyguard.
I went to the war room I first arrived in and checked the map on the wall. I was currently on the south-east beach one of two locations on this continent were the water and jagged rocks split open allowing ships to enter. Rummaging trough the books and journal's I found, entertaining myself with somewhat useful information.
This fort is called "Dragons Maw" and was created by the first human king, the only city on the cotenant was abandoned after it was taken over by Harpies. Dragons Maw, Red Vain, and Dagger Valley were the three main forts that acted as shelter for local villages. after the city "Bastion" fell the kingdom fell into three separate factions, named after the fort they occupied.
Dagger Valley's resident's wanted to retake Bastion, while Dragon's Maw started to craft boats to leave the continent. Red Vain's resident's wanted to stay in their fort, being the largest they were actually a close secant to being a city. Daggers Valley succeeded in taking back the city but quickly died out from starvation and Illness brought by the Harpy's.
Dragons Maw was finishing their last boat and invited the people from Red Vain to join them, some did but the rest stayed in their city. The last entry was from the new King his destination was South West, if they did not reach land in four months than they would turn to the east. one of his mages that was a Diviner said their were two landmasses close to them.
This war room was originally the kings bedroom and was reinvented by the third skeleton king, Nadi. Using his undead he claimed Dragons Maw, Dagger Valley, and Bastion, renaming it Hivain after Fare the god whom leads souls to NelfHi. Nadi refused to enter Red Vain, something slaughtered all the humans and was using their blood to grow a Seethe Tree.
Taking a moment to remember its location, I considered that area as a hazard and to not fuck around Red Vain. I continued to read for a few hours until I felt a strong pull to the front gate. Closing the book I was reading, I grabbed my Claymore and Black book before running to the battlements.
In front of the fort stood my army, 300 Liches (45,000cp), 600 Giant skeletons (30,000cp), 3,000 wraiths (76000cp), 4,500 orc skeletons (112,500cp) and 105,000 human skeletons (105,000cp). my liches combined gave me around (360,000cp) total I was left with around (36500cp) I was never good with math and even with my undead body became bored with the tedious process.
I felt inclined to create more undead producing a regiment to act as the vanguard. 50 giant skeletons (2,500cp) 500 orc skeletons (12,500cp), 300 wraiths (7,500), and 10,000 human skeletons (10,000cp) leaving my liches with (4,000cp) and I still had (6,000cp) I could produce 40 more liches giving myself a boost of (42,000cp).
The red orb Coral was hovering over my forces, he slowly floated towards me. I could feel his power, it was not as overbearing as before. The orb stopped five feet away from me and whipped at a red tentacle holding a scroll. "Your current forces are adequate, a seethe tree that was placed here during the secant skeleton kings reign as evolved into a rage variant."
I silently cursed to myself, seethe trees infect living beings with one of the 3 known variants. Rage, Magic, and blood. Rage makes creatures aggressive and hungry ravaging the land for food, seethe trees are usually destroyed by a contingent of paladins, crusaders or mages.
Coral opened the scroll and handed it to me. It was a magic scroll that could imbue a being with a -spell-, -ability- or -Skill-. -Skill- are passive and don't cost anything to use. -Spells- cost M.P. and cause a mental strain on the user. while -ability- are a unique -Spell- that does not cost M.P.
The scroll flashed with a blue light and flew into my body, the information of a -skill- filled my head.
-Magic Sight- You have been born or cursed with the -Magic Sight- seeing a spell will allow you to recreate it, if the spell is a better version of a previously owned spell it will be replaced. Magic comes easily to you the higher rank your spell is the lower its M.P. cost. M.P. Furnace now unlocked, your other stats (H.P./C.P.) now add to your M.P., M.P. spent will be siphoned from your M.P. furnace.

...I was in a room with a blond woman, she sat beside me talking but no words left her mouth. I smiled and laughed causing her to blush. I felt a warm light from her, the vision faded and I was on a battlefield holding a locket to my chest. inside of it was a picture of the woman and a blood diamond ring. I closed the locket and placed it inside of my armor safe from the coming battle...
