《Raimei no Henka》Raimei No Henka Chapter 9

Chapter 9:
Me and Nina stood there quite awkwardly after my dumbass comment, also me not wanting to keep this moment going longer than it should, I just started to walk out without another word.
As I was just about to grab the damn handle for the door, all of a sudden an alarm began to go off and emergency lights turned on in the control room. I still vividly remember my thought at that exact moment was just “What I do this time?”
Then Mertias and Rena rushed into the room, passing by me like I didn’t even exist, I tried to say something but it would’ve gotten muffled by the alarm. Turing to the center console where they stood, not hearing them I could see that they were both visually worried.
“What happened?!” I had to exclaim pretty loudly for them to hear me, Mertis smacked a button and the alarm stopped, “One of the power bearers that we sent out on a mission is under attack by not only a Beast but the government.”
I felt the widening of my eyes there and me just going into auto pilot mode, “Where is it, if I have a mark there, I can save them.”
Rena showed me the location, I remembered I had a mark there, taking a deep breath I drew both of the dagger and knife on me, exhaling slowly, “This will be my first mission I guess then, who can and can’t I kill?”
Mertias looked at me with both concern but also he seemed to had been glad that I asked that, I don’t know, that man has always been weird, “No civilians, those are your only untargetable ones there, everything else if free range.” I saw Rena looking up at Mertias and simply facepalming to his words, “And let Nina go with you, the other power bearer might be hurt as well.”

“Then lets get this sorted out then.” I stretched out my back, “Place your hand on my shoulder and let’s go.” She placed her hand and I focused in on the many marks I had, finding the one in the right location. Before this took me ages but as I got more more used it, just thinking about a certain location was enough.
In an instant we appeared there, there were blown up cars and dead soldiers, seemed like the right place.
“Nina, find the power bearer, I will take care of the soldiers and the Beast.” She looked at be with quite the worry in her eyes, “Don’t worry about me, I have fought all this stuff before.” I guess even then she cared for me, even though I was quite the dick back then.
She quickly ran off, then I looked around, a few soldiers stood guard at the back while others fought, seemed quite easy compared to the stuff I had faced till then. Just a few teleports should do the trick I thought.
I looked at the combat knife that Nina’s father gave me. Running the tips of my fingers down the blade and onto the handle, placing a mark on it. It was battle ready at that point. Though looking onto it was quite painful, remembering what he told me.
Taking a deep breath I stood up from some makeshift cover that was there, throwing both of my weapons in different directions, both getting stuck in their thick Kevlar vests. Well at least it was expected, but also I fought them already, I just teleported to one of the daggers, using the momentum from the movement to push one of them down.
Tipping him over I took the knife and stabbed it into the weak part in between the chest and neck. The other instantly realized who I was, “Tell everyone that Hayato Raiiki is here, we are authorized to use lethal force on him!!!” I guess they were still stupid like that back then.

Even though he knew who I was, he still didn’t take the knife out of his Kevlar, meaning an other easy kill. That left the two others, I threw one of the knives in front of their escape route and threw one at them. I teleported first to the one behind then, shocking them with the residual energy, then in the next instant to the still flying dagger, creating an even more powerful shock. Stopping both their hearts.
“Time to see what that Beast is all about.”
Though this place seemed very weird in my eyes, it was supposed to be a city, but the destruction seemed too localized, and there were no civilians anywhere. I walked forward to where this Beast actually was, on the way there I didn’t see anyone, but not like people, not a living soul was there. But even that could be explained if I tried hard enough.
But this, this was very off, it had the same feeling like looking at Rena’s illusion, I feel something is out of place but it wasn’t easy to tell. So without bashing my brain at it too much, I just went for it.
That was a really big mistake, a really big one. I felt that in my core back then. But I was still quite stupid back then.
Not far away I saw the beast, this one was really as you would call a beast, a large hulking block of bloodlust. I only saw it turn around, then it was already before my eyes. I dropped my knife onto the ground, teleporting to it was enough to dodge the attack.
It went over me and plowed itself into the ground, this thing though also didn’t make sense. After stopping into the ground, it didn’t move, just watched me. It’s mouth open and drooling. But not attacking me.
Slowly the air seemed to open, and armed guards walked out. A man dressed in white stood at the forefront, only his right side had blood spots on it.
“So you are from the resistance then. This one didn’t give me any info, but at least he dragged you here. Now lets see what you are made of.” his words were disgusting, but powerful. Instinctively knew I had to be afraid of this man.
