《Kali Yuga》Chapter 18. Meanwhile....

Huang Wen was about to meet Zhang Xuan, Chen Yao and Xia Yue again. While Zhang Hu and Fan Zheng were busy at improving their level and the level of their men.
Demons were busy at giving their best to consume more souls while staying survive. It was known to them now, that there were human who have the ability to absorb them. Now rather than hunting, their first priority was not to be hunted until they were strong enough.
All across the land, there were people like Huang Wen who reached high levels and began to hunt demons rather than killing zombies.
But that wasn't all that happened, one of perhaps the most important event was happening right now, near Fuzhou University. Huang Wen would be surprised when he saw this zombie. From afar he was just an ordinary zombie, it was walking slowly and stiffly. Its skin was a bluish gray, it seemed he was one of those who were taken by a demon, since there was no sign of wounds in his body and all his limbs was intact.
It was ordinary zombie. Until you looked at its eyes.
There were hints of intelligence in its eyes.
It looked around him. There were few zombies wandered in a circle. Their demon had been killed by Huang Wen days ago. They were zombies who were ruled by the first demon that was killed by Huang Wen.
Since then, they were running away from Huang Wen until Baihu ruled over them and were moved toward his territory, where there were more survivors for them to prey on. Not even a week passed and Baihu who misjudged his own strength, killed by Huang Wen and for the 2nd time, they were free from their link.
That zombie snickered and suddenly he didn't move sluggishly, with an astounding speed as a zombie, it moved and began to kill the other zombies, while the other zombies were surprised and began to run away.
Who is this zombie?
Back then this particular zombie was biting a survivor when Baihu died and the soul essence, rather being sent to Baihu was absorbed by the zombie self.
Its group was attacking a small group of survivors when it happened, when this zombie consumed the soul essence for itself, for the first time, something triggered his long forgotten memories, mixed with the memories of its victim. The zombie was staggered and stood dumbfounded for a while but the feeling that he found something in the middle of nothingness, drove him to experience it once more.
With a savagery that was even rare among zombies, it moved almost as fast as a normal human and bit another victim.
Once again he was reeled from the sensation of absorbing another soul essence. This time the feeling was even stronger.
This zombie wasn't the only one who experienced it, the other zombies who were freed from the link to their demon, at the same time as they consume a survivor, experienced the same thing. There were many spread all around the land, since many demons were killed by humans who grew stronger, but in this particular zombie, it was another zombie within his own group.

At that time from his large group, there were only eleven zombies who manage to bite at the survivors when the link disappeared. This particular zombie was lucky because when three or four of its colleagues shared one survivor. This particular zombie itself, was able to bite one survivor all for himself.
These 11 zombies, they all shared the same experience and with renewed vigor they pounced on the rest of the survivor but when all the survivors were consumed, this particular zombie managed to consume much more soul essence compared to its companion.
With all the survivors perished, those zombies who now had a taste of soul essence, didn't see more survivors to consume. Slowly they turned their attention toward each other, they could sense the similar soul essence, although wasn't as fresh as the soul essence of the survivors but it still a soul essence. In fact, since they already consumed quite number of soul essence, they exude much denser soul essence. It didn't take 5 seconds before the first zombie started to attack another zombie.
A battle ensued between the zombies who had a taste of soul essence.
That particular zombie who luckily consumed more was stronger than the other, but since exude denser soul essence, the other zombies were targeting him.
Driven by its will to survive and its hunger for more soul essence, that zombie fought like it was possessed by a demon. With vague memories within its head, that zombie avoided the first attack by threw his body toward what was left from the survivors. It dropped its body near one of their weapon. It was a self-made iron mace.
That zombie had a vague memory of how frightening that mace was and how to use it effectively. As it used the mace, its movement was no longer stiff. With a loud crack one of its assailants fell but to that zombie's disappointment, he couldn't absorb any soul essence, its opponent died and its soul essence dispersed in the air.
That zombie howled in disappointment, its howl filled with pain and anger.
Mean while the other zombies were scared by that zombie's ferocity. They staggered several steps back with conflicting feeling between fear and their greed for soul essence.
Their hesitation proved to be fatal, since that zombie suddenly changed to one of them, this time he used his hand and teeth as usual. Caught unprepared, its target was killed within seconds, that zombie savagely tore the neck of its victim with its teeth. Surge of soul essence flew toward its body like a torrent of flood and that zombie howled in excitement.
The other zombies now filled with fear and turned their back.
How could they survive with their back facing their predator. That one zombie now filled with renewed vigor and strength, charged and killed them all one by one. Surge of soul essence after surge of soul essence entered its body. Every time he killed one and absorbed, its movement became fast for a few seconds and within that seconds he killed another and absorbed more.

It kept at it. He was consuming other zombies, left and right without care for the world. Other zombies ran away from it, just like they ran away from Huang Wen.
Bit by bit, its mind was restored by the fragments of it former self and its victims. For days he was wandering from place to place, killing other zombies when he found one.
Right now, he was walking near a place that was felt familiar to him.
He saw some zombies scattered and with much determination he chased and killed them. He was trying to gain whatever lost from him.
Suddenly it felt a voice sounded within its mind, "Ding! 1 point of experience."
"Congratulation, you have reached level 10. You have 2 points to spend on your stats."
"You have 1 skill point to spend on improving your mastery on one of your skills."
It was sounded all these time but before he reached level 10, his spirit stat simply like an abyss, it absorbed all the stat points he earned whenever he reached another level.
"Stats.... Skills.... "
Like having an itch within its head, there was something stirred within its mind.
"Who...."
"am.... "
"I...."
"?"
"?"
"..."
"Name : Ding Yun"
"Level: 10″
"Class: Ghoul."
"Title: - "
"Strength: 16
Agility: 4
Vitality: 22
Stamina: 39/39
Spirit: 1/1
Health: 36/36"
"Active Skills : none."
"Passive Skills : Feast lvl. 1."
"Ding Yun...My name is Ding Yun... I ... am.... a.... ghoul...."
"Feast... ?"
"Feast level 1. A skill that was only available for Ghoul class. With this skill whenever their stamina or health fall below its maximum, they could restore it by eating other living things. As the level of this skill improves, more stamina and health point will be restored for the similar amount of meat that was consumed."
Ding Yun stood there for a long time. He tried to discern these information. He felt like he had something he needed to do but he didn't know what was that.
Suddenly that voice sounded within his mind again, "You have 2 points to spend on your stats. Please invest 2 points on your chosen stat."
"...."
"...."
"2 points on spirit...."
And his mind felt clearer. He blinked a few times, it was a new sensation for him, that he could think this clearly.
"Improve ... feast... 1 skill point...", he carefully said.
"Improve passive skill Feast. Your mastery over feast skill was improved to level 2."
"Feast level 2. Feast now became more efficient, for the similar amount of fresh meat, you will restore a greater amount of health and stamina, but at this level you can't use this skill to force the stamina and health over the maximum."
"Feast... level 2...", Ding Yun mumbled, repeating that female voice.
A female voice could be heard within his mind, "Feast level 2. Feast now became more efficient, for the similar amount of meat, you will restore a greater amount of health and stamina, but at this level you can't use this skill to force the stamina and health over the maximum."
His eyebrows raised, as if surprised to hear that voice again.
"Feast Level 2...", he repeated.
As it should be the voice sounded again within his mind, "Feast Level 2. Feast now became more efficient, for the similar amount of meat, you will restore a greater amount of health and stamina, but at this level you can't use this skill to force the stamina and health over the maximum."
Ding Yun's face began to form a smile. It grew wider and wider.
"Feast Level 2...", he repeated with a broad grin.
And the voice sounded again within his mind, "Feast level 2. Feast now became more efficient, for the similar amount of meat, you will restore a greater amount of health and stamina, but at this level you can't use this skill to force the stamina and health over the maximum."
Ding Yun laughed awkwardly, "Hah.... hah..... hah..... hah....."
"Feast Level 2!", he shouted.
The voice faithfully sounded again within his mind, "Feast level 2. Feast now became more efficient, for the similar amount of meat, you will restore a greater amount of health and stamina, but at this level you can't use this skill to force the stamina and health over the maximum."
It might be weird to see, but Ding Yun swayed in a way that could be called a dance, that if it could be said that a zombie could dance.
"Hah... ha...FEAST.... LEVEL.... 2....!!!", Ding Yun shouted at the top of his lung.
"DAMN! F****ING DUMB ZOMBIE!!!! ARE YOU TRYING TO PISS ME OFF!!!!", suddenly an angry voice reverberated inside his head.
Ding Yung was taken a back and staggered a few steps back, almost falling on his ass. His heart filled with fear.
"Can't believe it, first zombie to have some sort of intelligence and you just wanted to hear a female voice over and over. Crap!!! You just got yourself 2 points for your spirit stat boy and stop doing stupid things from now on.", that angry voice filled his head again.
Ding Yun, "... current stat?"
"Name : Ding Yun"
"Level: 10″
"Class: Ghoul."
"Title: - "
"Strength: 16
Agility: 4
Vitality: 22
Stamina: 39/39
Spirit: 5/5
Health: 36/36"
"Active Skills : none."
"Passive Skills : Feast lvl. 2."
".... my spirit is low... my agility is low... should level up to improve.", he thought and from to time he waited to see if that angry voice reprimanded him again.
When he heard nothing, he felt relieved and said to himself, 'So... that's the right thing to do...'
And began his adventure to improve his agility and spirit stat.
If only Huang Wen was here to see it happened.
