《Kali Yuga》Chapter 87. The beginning of battle at Gutian town.

Whether Colonel Wen Liang a shrewd man or not, it was already shown by his decision to betray the army and readily served Wang Yuehei. Whether he was a coward or not, now was answered. As soon as the reinforcement army from Ningde almost reached Gutian town's defense line, the troop who defended the town, began to shoot. But rather than shooting at the zombies, they shot those who came to rescue them.
Colonel Wen Liang assigned his most trusted unit at the front line. Each one of them already knew of his betrayal and swore their loyalty to the colonel. Some might agreed under peer pressure, but mostly had used their position to do many crimes in the past, taking advantage over the civilians. They worried if Colonel Wen Liang lost his authority over the town, they might face military court.
Or at the least, they would lose all their previous privileges and had to give it to the main army who came from Ningde.
Aside from arranging his trusted men on the front line, Colonel Wen Liang also arranged that other captains and lieutenants were gathered to watch the battle. The colonel made an excuse of organizing their plan to gather them at the same place, under the watch of his men.
Many of those who were gathered, already suspected Colonel Wen Liang's betrayal. The past few days, there were some who openly voiced their suspicion, such as Captain Zhao Qing and a few of his closest friends. The others, either didn't have the courage to openly oppose the colonel or had the similar ideas as the colonel. Now that Colonel Wen Liang suddenly called them to gather, those who openly opposed him refused to obey his command, fearing for their lives.
Those who obeyed and came, most likely would follow Colonel's Wen Liang's decision. The colonel of course knew this and this moment would seal their loyalty to him.
From their headquarter, they watched the reinforcement from Ningde moved closer and closer. When they reached the firing range, Colonel Wen Liang's unit began to shoot at them.
Colonel Wen Liang turned to them and looked them in the eye, one by one, he arrogantly asked, "Anyone wanted to say anything?"
No one dared to say anything.
"As of now, the army from Ningde would see each one of us as an enemy. The bridge was burnt. There is no path to return.", Colonel Wen Liang said with half smile on his lips.
"I won't force you to follow me. You're free to decide on your own. We all know that there are some of us who oppose my authority, but whether you oppose me or work for me, do not ever hope for any assistance from our main base in Ningde. I will make sure that will never happen."
After he said that, Colonel Wen Liang stood there arrogantly. One by one, his captains and lieutenants swore allegiance to him.
When Colonel Wen Liang saw two people who were hesitating, he said, "If you want to go to Captain Zhao Qing, you can go to him. Trust me, I don't want any traitors within my rank. I want to know clearly from the beginning, who is on my side and who isn't."

Colonel Wen Liang then turned to them who had sworn their allegiance to him, "Even you all, if any of you didn't want to work with me and swore your allegiance because you worry for your life. I promise you, I won't harm anyone right now. Go to Captain Zhao Qing, later we'll go at each other throat. But as of now, I will let you go freely."
After they heard Colonel Wen Liang said that, after some hesitation, there were another three men who decided to join Captain Zhao Qing. As they left the room, Colonel Wen Liang asked once more.
"Is there anyone else who want to join them?"
No one did, all those who were staying in the room, swore their allegiance once more. Colonel Wen Liang nodded his head.
"I see..., since we already separate the bad and the good... it isn't necessary to guarantee the lives of those who decide to oppose me anymore.", said Colonel Wen Liang.
Without hesitation, those who guarded the room, raised their riffles and shot all five who decided to join Captain Zhao Qing. They didn't even have a chance to protest.
Colonel Wen Liang turned to his supporters, "Prepared your men. We will attack Captain Zhao Qing's and his supporters now."
"How about the army from Ningde?", one of his supporters asked.
Colonel Wen Liang answered, "The demon lord's army from Fuzhou will take care of them for us. Now that they know the town will not accept them, they have no choice but to retreat back to Ningde or stay and get slaughtered."
---- o ----
That was the scene, that was seen by Huang Wen and his men from the top of the small hill. The army from Ningde was began to retreat strategically. From the way they reacted, it seemed Mi Fang was succeed in his mission. Although it was still a question, whether the army from Ningde treated him well or not.
As Huang Wen's men charged toward the zombies outside the town. Inside the town, another battle was going to break out. Battle between Captain Zhao Qing and his supporters against Colonel Wen Liang and his supporters.
Huang Wen was leading his men charged in a wedge formation with him at the center. Chen Fang and Xia Bao led each of the wings, along with Yu Heng and the others. The army from Fuzhou already saw them by then. The commanders began to gather their zombies to defend. After all most of their number was focused on dealing with the retreating army from Ningde.
Even if the army from Ningde was retreating, they couldn't allow them to retreat so easily. It was their job to hold them as long as they could at Gutian town.
Huang Wen and his 3,000 men were outside Colonel Wen Liang's and the army from Fuzhou's calculation.
Before the first clash happened, Huang Wen and his army received a good news. Mi Fang and his 20 men was joining their army.

"Leader Huang! Leader Huang! Look that's Mi Fang!", Yan Chou left his position and ran toward Huang Wen.
He was shouting with all his strength and pointing at Mi Fang who was leading his 20 men to join them. Huang Wen turned to look at the direction that was pointed by Yan Chou.
He roared and laughed, his voice boomed out in the battle field, "Ha ha ha ha ! Yan Chou! Go back to your position! Mi Fang! You son of a bitch! Go lead your unit damn it!"
Everyone's morale raised even higher with Mi Fang's arrival.
Mi Fang quickly moved to his position, everyone was in their highest morale. Unconsciously they ran faster.
Xia Bao who noticed this shouted, "Watch your pace! Watch your pace! Don't peak too soon!"
He helped the leaders noticed the situation and kept their pace from increased too soon. They set their eyes on their enemies. Within seconds the battle began, Huang Wen drew the first blood. Seconds before he reached the nearest zombie, he used the technique to make himself unnoticed. Quickly he used that moment to call on Baihu, who quickly materialized.
Huang Wen mentally sent Baihu on rampage.
With his sword in hand Baihu roared his battle cry. He sped up and charged alone toward the enemy, leaving his men behind.
The next second everyone saw 'Huang Wen' charged to the enemy. With sword in his hand he fought fiercely. Since Huang Wen used his skill to disappear from everyone's consciousness. Both enemies and friends, saw Baihu as the real Huang Wen. The moment they saw Baihu, the zombie's commander's communication line was busy with the commanders on the west side warnings and information.
"Watch out! That's the man!"
"He lead thousands of men!"
"We're doomed!"
"Who ? Damn it! Who you are wimps talking about!"
"It's him! The one who kill Jiang Nan, Guan Lao and Jian Mo!"
"It's the angel of death!"
"Damn! Don't panic! Watch him closely, don't lose your sight on him!"
"Send your zombies to stop him!"
They were worried for his disappearing technique and focused their spiritual sense and physical sense to watch each of his movement. But they were watching Baihu, while the real Huang Wen used his speed and his technique to move toward the enemy's commanders.
The pair worked in perfect sync. Baihu's ferocity drew everyone's attention, alone he fought valiantly and killed many. Huang Wen unseen, unnoticed quickly moved toward his first target who didn't realize that he was going to die in the next few minutes. Baihu's movement finally stopped, the zombies surrounded him thickly. Wherever he turned, there would be zombies. Some of the zombies managed to injured him, but as demon Baihu didn't have to worry about their infection.
Huang Wen's men fought hard, they were worried for his safety, but at the same time was in awe of his valiant.
Three commanders were gathered at the same spot, they had their zombies built a wall of defense around them. Huang Wen easily slipped through their defense, it wasn't until one of them suddenly fell to the ground that the other two realized of Huang Wen who was coming for their life.
"He's here!"
"That's not him!"
Huang Wen lost decent amount of his physical stat. Although it was exchanged with clarity and faster reaction, his opponents wasn't inexperienced boy as well. Both were used to violence back then before the changes.
They quickly threw themselves away from Huang Wen to two different direction. Huang Wen didn't hesitate, he pretended to leap and chase one of them. Just as he expected, as the one he was attacking tried to block his movement, his friend attacked him from behind. Huang Wen quickly crouched down, used one of his leg as the axis to turn and then propelled himself hard to the other direction.
His punch exploded into his opponent's solar plexus.
With one punch he rendered his opponent helpless. Huang Wen without any hesitation sent series of strikes to his opponent's vital points. At the same time, the other guy saw what happened and decided to run away. He sent his zombies to attack Huang Wen, while he ran toward his nearest allies.
"He just killed Wang Ren and Xiao Yun!", he informed the other commanders.
Zhao Yulang now was the leader for all the commanders from Fuzhou. He frowned his thick eyebrows as he listened to the panic on the west side. He saw how Huang Wen fought, when Huang Wen broke through their siege. Quickly he calculated the strength of his men on the west side and the fact that Huang Wen led 3,000 men to attack their army.
Zhao Yulang sighed and quickly commanded his men on the west side, "Leave the west side, send some of your zombies to delay their movement and move your ass to the east! NOW!"
Situation changed unprecedented in battle and fight, if one couldn't adapt quickly to all the changes, he won't be able to win the battle. Zhao Yulang realized they miss calculated Huang Wen and his army during their planning. Now with Huang Wen here, it wouldn't be easy to win the town for Wang Yuehei. But Wang Yuehei's main goal was to occupy Ningde. Their main job was to engage and hold the reinforcement from Ningde.
Now that the army from Ningde was strategically retreating from Gutian town and Huang Wen sudden appearance, Zhao Yulang decided to focus his attention to the army from Ningde and let Huang Wen occupy the town.
"That traitor will keep him busy for a while.", Zhao Yulang silently thought to himself as he watched the battle between his army and the army from Ningde.

Lost In Translation
If you're one to travel the roads, you may have heard of me. You may have heard my Names in the stories, the songs, and the whispers of the road. Perhaps you've even seen me during my travels, speaking to a bird of blue light, or on a city street, performing small acts for coin and repute. Or perhaps you may know me as the Skystrider, who walked with the wind. Or the Voiceless, a man of song without speech. You may know me as the Tutor, who taught the Lion of Summer how to fight, or the Traveler, who has walked all the roads of the earth. I am all of these things. And people have branded me a myth. But people don't understand what a myth is. They haven't heard the songs lost to our tongues, nor have they seen the things I've seen. They haven't gone to the places I've gone. My feet have walked the plains, the seas, and the clouds. I have spoken languages unspoken; tongues lost to time. I have sung to the earth, held the moon in my arms, and walked the roads that your heroes hesitate to even mention. I have outwitted Demons. I have danced with the Fae. My songs have been heard by lords of wind and ash, and my steps have echoed in the bellies of gargantuan beasts the likes of which you have never seen. These are what real myths are. And me? I'm no legend. I'm just the bard stupid enough to poke the real ones with a stick. Discord link here. Authors Notes: I consider this to be a comming-of-age Sword and Sorcery story based mostly on the style of classic western fantasies. So if that's your thing then I encourage you to take a peek. Something I want to mention though is that the main character starts of pretty wimpy, and that might not be your thing. That being said, if you stick with him he's got a long way to grow. Also, while this version of the story is meant to be fully readable, more dicerning readers may want to wait until I move out of rough draft phase. There may be some inconsistancies with character and plot while I am still in the rough draft phase. I'm sorry for this, but this is my first web novel and from what I've read the best way to get a good novel out is to write write write, and then edit ruthlessly after you're finished with the book, so that's the plan I'm going to follow. Again, this is a rough draft. Everything you are reading is subject to change, including the name, title, and cover photo. This may no longer be the case once I've decided I know where this fiction is going and I have a reasonable understanding of the characters and their behavior. You're reading what comes off my keyboard as it's made, with very limited editing. There will be mistakes in the text. I do a quick spell check to take out the worst of the errors, but there will be some I miss. You can point them out in the comments if they are particularly confusing or glaring and I will try to fix them, however I am not overly concerned about minor errors as this is not the final draft by any means.

The End
There are five days left. The End is a miracle 10,000 years in the making that will free all from the confines of the world. The gods will soon be born. There is nothing that can be done about this. Not a webnovel, but a screenplay, submitted as my dissertation for my screenwriting degree. Sort of experimental. I have learned that I dislike writing screenplays, but all the same, I thought I'd post it anyway so it's at least worth something that way.
