《Throne Quest Online: Pixel Courage》Pixel Courage, Chapter Seventeen

Watching the life drain from me was an oddly cold process: I saw it at the bottom of my vision, where my HP bar slowly moved into the red, draining from 50% to 25%.
No idea how much time passed.
10/30 HP
The Thorn Guard took another HP point from the Zebda, but at the rate he was going, I was going to be dead long before he made much headway.
That’s when something important popped into my mind.
The Dragon Gauntlet.
The game had told me I’d won it right after defeating the Earth Dragon. But with all the distractions of that moment, I hadn’t put it on yet…
Eyes went to the corner of my vision, as my HP Bar slowly drained.
Went from MAIN MENU to ARMOR AND WEAPONS.
A picture of my body was presented before my eyes. There were lines connecting the various parts of my body to the potential pieces of armor I could wear, as well as the weaponry I could wield.
My eyes focused on the Dragon Gauntlet. Within a second, it was brought to my arm.
I exited out of the menu.
Had less than 10% Health left.
I felt bad, but I didn’t feel so close to death.
Odd thought to have, as I raised my fist in the air.
Brought my fist down on the Zebda’s claw and heard it crack.
The Zebda let go.
4/30 HP
The Zebda’s other claw came at me. I grabbed it in mid-air, then crunched it in my hand.
-1/30 HP
The Zebda squealed, then collapsed.
I watched it turn translucent, then disappear.
“Thank you, brave hero!” the Thorn Guard said. “You destroyed the Zebda.”
“Yeah, yeah.” I coughed for second, then continued. “I have eyes of my own. I can see it.”

The Thorn Guard nodded at me, smiling, seemingly oblivious to how little I gave a shit about him.
I shook my head, grimly laughing. “Dumb motherfuck.” Turned around and headed back towards the Thorn Kingdom walls.
Didn’t really know how buying and selling worked at the bazaar, but my HP wasn’t doing too hot, which meant I’d need to look for a good healing potion.
Most of the walk home happened without incident. Remembering where the monsters had been made it easy to stay out of their path.
When I got within sight of the gatehouse, though, I became a little confused. Last I remembered, there’d been a Zebda attacking the wall.
Walking by this time, there wasn’t a Zebda to be seen.
Carefully I walked, wondering if the Zebda was hiding. My gaze checked the sky, it checked to the forest to the right of us. Presumably the Zebda wasn’t behind the wall; if it was, it’d get killed soon enough.
That’s when it happened, a respawn.
The Zebda appeared out of thin-air without warning.
Its claw was coming at me before I knew what was happening.
Managed to use the hand wearing the dragon gauntlet to grab the claw before it hit me.
27/30 HP
The other claw came down though, before I could draw my sword.
Lost a decent amount of HP. The Zebda forced me to the ground.
Head throbbing, blood rushing to it.
My HP Bar was going down fast. It’d already been low, now it was only 10% away from 0.
Grass was ripped out of the ground as I was scraped across it.
Fuck. Fuck! FUCK!
The sack in the Zebda’s underbelly opened. The slimy jaw came at me, teeth bared.
Sharp long teeth digging through armor, crushing flesh and bone.
Air leaving my body.
HP Bar fell to zero.
Time to die.

Contact Through Voided Lenses
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Edit: Fixed some inaccuracies in the synopsis. The void is a vast unexplored ocean filled with various wonders and dangers all waiting to be explored by those brave enough to travel and record. Many souls do find themselves brave enough to face the vast distances, the various risks to personal safety and do the hundreds of task required on a craft. However, at times the void itself can be boring with absolutely nothing to do but as time pass and more and better technology is reached, things got better. The various trips got faster, communications became faster than light and you can be home to see your loved ones after only months now. Through the various planets whether rocky or gaseous, the various stars whether small or giant, the various systems both eerily similar or completely alien. As part of an expeditionary scientific exploratory survey craft, one could see that the void offers no reprieve from all the discoveries and wonders. At times, it can feel empty and silent where no soul can hear you scream and at others it can be overwhelming with sudden phenomenon that can overwhelm the brightest of minds. The void itself is a truly fascinating ocean where one must chart the various islands or drown in its deadly tidal waves. But the question still remained no matter how you try to hide it in of itself… is there truly other intelligent life out there? Are we alone in this ocean? Those very questions still haunt the minds of those on the crafts themselves as they brace for every jump ready for the unknown and the known. Many would try to explain that yes there is other intelligent life out there whilst other still say no after 2 centuries of continuous flight out of the home system. Still, those are questions that bury deep in the minds of the crew and those at home as the voidcraft jumps to a system with a single yellow star orbited by 8 other planets with one crowning blue jewel being the 3rd closest with its 5 oceans and 7 continents, a planet called Dirt which is inhabited by a primitive species called Humanity. Hello, author here and this is my newest dive into writing particularly for the Writathon currently in progress being my first one. I hope you give me story a try but in case you still want more information on what you’re getting into, below are some pointers about the story itself. First Contact: CTVL is a story about a first contact scenario between an advanced alien civilization and a slightly more advanced modern day humanity on their planet called Dirt. Characters: The story will take place mainly on the perspective of the alien visitors themselves though there will be human POV characters who will show how the rest of humanity react through media and forums. Action: It won’t be an actual alien invasion but you have to see for yourself how well first contact went. Sci-Fi: I will be very forward here, I WILL bend the rules of physics in order to add in parts of the plot and there WILL be parts that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Theme: It will be a brooding story talking about the futility of pe… Just kidding, it’s mostly wholesome stuff to be honest here. Alien: The aliens themselves will… actually why should I tell you, you have to go and read it to find out what the aliens are though I will draw a few things here and there to aid in the process. Extra tidbit: If you are a grammar nazi or someone who really wants a realistic scifi story... this story is probably not for you at all. Anyways, that’s pretty much all I can say before I spoil something major of the plot itself, the story is slice of life so make sure that type of story is what you like because I am terrible with anything else as I found out, anyways, have a good time everyone and good luck to the other Writathon participants.

Shade Hunter
Damien Sinclair, despite his bizarre name, was a relatively ordinary young man, fresh out of high school with few prospects in his life. Then, through a cosmic accident outside of everyone's control, he ends up on Xaunis, a world both familiar and foreign to his own in several ways, not the least of which being the fact that magic is real, he's seeing screens straight out of video games, and the very fundamentals of what he understands about reality is inherently wrong. But despite these challenges, Damien will meet them with a head held high and a smile on his face. After all... one does not cheat death and simply waste a second chance. Liana in between Worlds
17 year old Liana is not as surprised as most people would be when she meets Inaya, coming from another world searching for a mysterious danger that could be disastrous for both worlds. She's always seen things others could not see, and she often finds it easier to befriend strange creatures from dreamworlds than her classmates. But now she's involved in a possible plot to eradicate our whole species, which makes her travel through a dead alien city and the oak wood of the Nummerfa who believe that our species are dangerous demons from hell, and other places in several different worlds. All she actually wanted was read her Tolkien book, or sit and watch the stars without being bothered by the existential problems of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. And how is she going to even explain her absence at school? 'Liana in Between Words' is a weird genre-defying mix of portal fantasy and scifi in a tale of friendship, loneliness, and the role of humans in the multiverse. This one contains absolutely no romance and no serious trigger warnings for sex, excessive violence, bad words or heavily traumatising content if you can handle the idea that there are people somewhere who think -maybe not completely without reason- that our species are destructive demons that should be eradicated.

Now lost, they needed to find the way back from this strange and mysterious place. ---------- Length: I try to keep the chapters around 2000 words, but sometimes I would do more. (The first chapter is 4000 words btw)schedule: ***On Pause*** I would gladly appreciate getting reviews. Just to know if the story is good. I'm fine with critics.
