《Economicalopoly》Prologue - Future Horizons and Realisation

Humanity had gotten this far. How far, might you be wondering? Quite far indeed. The world had effectively become an ecumenopolis, almost; not in real life at least, in Economicalopoly of course! More on that later, in our story the main character is Charlie. Charlie was an exceptionally talented young man, the key word being 'was'. He was an incredibly unmotivated individual who generally steered clear from other 'Homo sapiens' as he put it. This was all because of an accident he had early on in life, when he was but 15 years old.
***A Flashback of sorts! Year 2023***
"Mum, how far now? My ass is dying from all this sitting!" inquired Charlie.
"We're almost there Charlie, stop complaining." replied Charlie's Mother.
Charlie had been in the front passenger seat of a car for the last 6 hours, he impatiently rested his left arm outside the winding in an effort to distract himself, additionally, he had begun to feel his legs and ass seemingly melt into the chair and floor. Charlie, having become so bored had begun to feel drowsy and closed his eyed. He started thinking about the main events of the last few days; summer break had recently started and this meant a break from hell, or 'School' as the teachers put it. He was excited mainly because this meant he could spend an entire three months playing games and talking to friends with similar interests to his own, or so he thought…
An enormous gut wrenching tug caused him to all but forget his current train of thoughts. He felt himself gliding smoothly but painfully through the air after feeling what he believed to be his forehead collide with the windscreen. He yanked open his eyes in an effort to understand what had happened only to confirm his fears, his mum had lost control of the car and had collided with the current turn’s guard rail. Current Charlie was moving through the air at approximately 80 km/h as his perception of time had slowed to a crawl. Looking around he saw himself ever so slowly edge forward through the sky with what felt like a brick wall of air slowing him down. He turned his head towards the car and saw his mum against an inflated airbag, she had her eyes shut and a spray of blood had left her mouth and covered the half crumpled interior of the car and the windscreen, or at least what remained of it. Charlie was not quite sure if his mum had her eyes shut because of the sudden impact as a reflex or if she was perhaps unconscious, or worse…

Suddenly Charlie’s eyes widened. Absolute horror seeped into his mind, he had decided to assess his current situation only to notice something important. His left arm that had previously been hanging outside the window was not where it should be. He became aware of the metal between the windscreen and the passenger side window and how if you were going fast enough it could be quite ‘sharp’, his vision then began to recede.
-Darkness-
As Charlie’s vision slowly returned to him he began to become aware of his odd alien surroundings. White, white, more white, metal bench, white drapes and an eerily chilling beeping noise. Charlie started to sit up only to stop mid action realizing the pain he felt around his shoulder and chest and his left leg.
***First Person time***
‘Why does it hurt so much?’ I thought, only to then look at my left shoulder then to trace it down to the elbow, or rather, where it should have been.
“F-ffuckkk.”
A stump. Perfect. Amazing. ‘Sugoi’ as the ‘Weebs’ might put it.
Mum! It dawns on me, what happened to mum?!? A slight panicked squeal had escaped my lips as I began to search the room for signs of my mum. Where is she? My heart beating faster and faster as it feels like it is about to leap out of my chest.
An absolute feeling of relief floods over me as my eyes locate her dark brown hair with chocolate highlights, or at least, that’s what she says it is. How would I know? Girls and the fucking hair color names they come up with, ‘Baby shit green’, ‘Smegma White’; I don’t keep up with it or even pretend to understand it. Anyway, more importantly, my mum is safe. I can see the soft rise of her chest and what I believe to be a heartbeat monitor beside her serenely beating.
My task of locating my mum being complete, I let the deep recessions of my mind take over.

It had only been a few weeks since the accident and it was nearing the end of the year. Charlie had greatly recovered since the accident, being so concerned for others at the time of the accident he was much more worried about his mum’s condition then his own. Lucky for him this was futile as his mum was completely almost unscathed. Her injury’s healed within a few days while Charlie was stuck with the short-arm of a stick. Literally.
Shortly after waking up in hospital a few weeks before, a man had come to see him. His name was Dr. Stewart, he always had a cool air around him and he smiled nonchalantly. Dr. Stewart informed Charlie that his left arm could not be reattached because rather than a clean cut it was a blunt impact where it was more or less ripped off from the force. It couldn’t be saved. Charlie was devastated when he heard the news because he had always relied greatly on his arms for playing games, ‘What gamer has one arm?’ he silently thought to himself as a tear fell out of his eye.
***A few months later***
He was slowly starting to realise the repercussions of only having one arm. The accident had changed him, he truly regretted resting his arm outside the window. He never talked to people voluntarily anymore, his friends had moved on without him because he was gone in the hospital for so long and last but not least, he had used his left hand to masturbate before the accident! What would he do now? True regret.
******
Several years after the accident and no-one that he could really call a friend, he was becoming incredibly lonely. Although he was left with only a single arm, his right one, he moved on and eventually finished school. He did advanced math, English, physics, whatever he found interesting. He had mostly exceptional grades except Physical Education. He truly sucked at P.E. This may or may not be because he only had one arm as the other one, the prosthetic, was just for looks; it really didn’t do anything. All this technology and science and I can’t get an arm that opens and closes? He was mostly good at everything else though, because of this and a few other things like wanting to ensure he could get a decent job and then moved onto university.
He had enrolled at a prestigious university known for its top graduates that moved on to do amazing things that rocked the world. He was going to learn proper robotics beyond his little high school test days where he made little gadgets and messed around, taking apart everything he found. With this, he hoped he could make himself a new arm or he was going to die trying. Hopefully he wouldn’t actually die. How could he?
***End of Flashbacks and Prologue***
I hoped you enjoyed this, more coming soon and I will explain more about the actual game itself as it is different from everything else I’ve ever read about, we’ll also be having a University (College) Arc during the whole Volume 1 (VR will be going on at the same time. DW), maybe longer. If anyone has any questions just ask below, I won’t give out spoilers but will explain things people aren’t sure about. Thanks :3

Origin
A group of college students find the last known warship from the Imperium, which came to Earth and started civilisation millenia ago. They will have to repair the ship, launch it back to space and then decide what to do with it. Will they restore the empire? Explore the galaxy? Or get up to unspeakably hilarious hijinks..... This is my first work, so please comment and critique as much as possible. This work is being migrated from Webnovel to Royal Road cause RR has a muuuuch better text editor and formatting options.
