《Origin of Flames》14 The first supper

I mewl, hug the human close to the fire, winds smack against the cabin and all the nocturnal evils roar and screech. Blackjack, you could've made it out. "Mom? What's wrong?" "Nothing, get some sleep, baby." The human yawns awake, "Are you alright, Calico?" "Calico?" He smiles, "Yeah, white, black and orange." I look at my fur. "I just see splotches." "I always liked the color scheme, it's adorable." "Whatever, human. What is your plan?" He scratches his head, "I need to follow the tracks, find out where everyone went."
Glass shatters and I roll out her lap. I run and kneel. I pick up a shard and drop it immediately. The air whooshes in and burns my skin for a moment, then steam comes off me. I huff and puff as steam explodes from my skin, Kitten nuzzles further into the jacket, "What in the-" Calico gets up with a growling stomach, "You're-" I shake my head as the steam dies to a minimum. I feel my head, "I've got a fever?" "You're one of us." Steam comes from my hands, "I'm not a cat-" "No- the ice, you have-" I snap, "Flames." I smile as the door screeches open from the cold. "Stay here, I'll bring us one of those brown four legged-things." "Deer?" "Funny word for them." The door closes as I lay next to the fire, gently petting this cute baby cat.
The door screams open and I jump up, put my fists up. Kitten pops his head out as Calico slams a headless deer down. My eyes widen as Calico grabs her side with blood dripping from her mouth, she's been cut. "What happened!?" "Deer horns hurt." "So you ripped it's head off?" "I've played with mice, it's my nature." I look down at the deer and gulp, as if I had any food to keep down. Kitten hops out and starts tearing into it, "Hurry up before we eat it all." I gag and grab my knees. I do another gulp and walk to the kitchen, "Leave me some." I lean over the sink and catch my breath. "You can do this." I look in the drawer and grab a serrated hunting knife. I walk in and cover my eyes from the carcass. Loud footsteps, Calico nudges me, "Have some liver." I hold the knife out and she stabs it on. "Thanks." I hold it over the fire and try to ignore the disgusting tearing and snapping sounds coming from behind. Kitten meows, "Just eat it raw, like us!" Calico laughs, "Humans have weak stomachs." "Yeah, I'm not taking any chances, a disease in the weather would kill me."

I take bite of it. An oddly familiar taste. Steak? No, better. Succulent and delicious, despite it tasting of blood, the rarest steak I ever had, it is alluring. I tear some off the knife with my teeth. Next thing I know, I'm licking off the grease. Kitten brushes against me, "Delicious, huh?" I close my eyes, "Man, I'm getting sleepy." I fall onto my back and let the urge to sleep take me in.
