《A virtual reality game according to a martial artist otaku》Chapter 18

They soon came across a pack of eight goblins, but with the teamwork of Kira and Gabunon, they were quickly finished. Gabumon leveled up once more, bringing his level up to 13.
Kira pulled out his hand from a goblin's body. This was the aftermath of a chidori. There was no blood, as the skill cauterised the wound, but it didn't matter; If a living being as a massive hole through their chest then they would most likely die.
He checked his mana. Only 40 left, barely enough for a second of a chidori. 'Oh well. That worked out quite nicely.' He looked around, making sure it was safe, and logged off.
It was a normal day at school, apart from one thing. John was walking back home when suddenly a wild Lucy appeared!
"Hey John, or should I call you Kira?" She teased. "So you saw the video, huh?" She nodded. "It was amazing how you scared them off like that. A normal person would have been hounded by them until they revealed all of their secrets!" She smiled. "By the way John, where are you? I created my own character who looks like me but has a different name, so I want to friend you. Can you find me?"
He glanced at Lucy. She was looking at Kira with puppy eyes, long hazelnut hair falling over her ears. 'She looks kinda cute...' He thought.
"Sure. I am going to visit Magnolia soon. I heard there were awesome monsters to fight. But first things first; what is your name in Endless online."
She smiled and tapped a finger on the side of her nose. "That's a secret." She stuck out a tongue. "See you later John!" She shouted as they separated.
Once Kira had finally logged on, he immediately checked on Gabumon's whereabouts. He was right next to Kira, sleeping. Kira looked around. The goblin king's mutilated corpse was till there, with crows feasting on it. "Hello master." Gabumon awoke. "Hello there. I've got a friend to meet so we have to go back to town to get a map. Let's go!" They both got up and went along their merry way.

They were almost in sight of the town before Kira noticed: He was covered in blood. Any guard would be suspicious of a person who walks into their town dyed red from blood. So, Kira took off his first bear cloak and equipped his second. 'Now I look more presentable.'
"Let's go." He said to Gabumon. They approached the gates, and, as soon as Gabumon crossed them, he shrunk such a small size, he could comfortably sit on Kira's shoulder. He did just that.
"Dafuq just happened? You shrunk!"
"It's because we're in a city. Not all pets are small and cuddly so a spell shrinks them." Gabumon explained as though it was nothing. They carried on.
They arrived at the adventurer's guild without any trouble; no-one was asking Kira to join their guild nor did anyone try to kidnap him.
Opening the doors, he walked straight up to Yukino. "Hey Yukino, do you know where I can get a map to get to Magnolia?"
"Yeah. You have to buy and it costs ten silvers. Do want one?" Kira nodded, and she opened a cupboard. She withdrew an A1 piece of paper and gave it to Kira. In return, he gave her 10 silvers. Thanking her and saying his goodbyes, Kira left the guild.
Outside, he looked at his available money; it was over all 25 silvers. 'I'll buy provisions with this.'
He went around the town; buying food, water and an additional weapon. Throwing knives. They were reusable and durable. The downside was that he had to spend 20 silvers for 40 of them. 'They better be worth it.' Kira thought. He had used them in real life and new a good throw could easily take out a target more easily than any sword.
They were out of the city when Gabumon jumped off Kira's shoulder and went back to being his original size. 'At his normal weight he would have crushed me. Oh well.'

"Let's go to Magnolia Gabumon!"
Nodding happily. Kira opened his map. He found where he was and looked for Magnolia. He found it, but unfortunately it was some distance away: 100 miles, give or take. If he had a car, he'd be there in an hour or two, but he was walking. If only he had a mount...
"Gabumon, when do you evolve next and what is your evolved form?" An idea sprang to mind. Gabumon looked at him questionably and answered "I evolve when I am level 20 and my next form will be called Garurumon." Kira went deep into thought, weighing the pros and cons of waiting here and leveling up and then going or immediately setting off. He had decided.
"Alrighty then Gabumon. Let's go and level up together!" Kira needed to kill around two more monkeys to level up whilst Gabumon would benefit greatly, one or two levels, just by eating one! 'The monkey takes a long time to respawn. Let's kill some bears and goblins to waste time.'
Kira walked into the forest and Gabumon ran alongside him. They soon found a bear. Kira was two levels higher than the level 16 bear so he gave Gabumon a turn to kill the bear by himself. Gabumon was hesitant at first, but Kira managed to persuade him, saying that he will be right behind him and will step in in needs be.
In fact, it was over quickly. Gabumon's blue blaster was more effective than when he had fought the goblin king. 'He has leveled it up.' Kira noted. Gabumon used the range of blue blaster to burn the bear to ashes. It didn't even know what hit it.
The flames hit the bear right in the face, blinding it and melting its face off. Most of the bear's fur was burnt to nothing; that was how hot the flames were. Once he was sure the bear was dead, Gabumon ran up to find the drops. 2 silvers and a core, which he immediately swallowed. Thankfully, he levelled up. Soon after, they met a pack of goblins.
Kira drew his katana and swung it in a wide arc, behead two goblins. This was Iai; the art of quickly drawing one's sword and beheading your opponent. 'Down to six.' He threw three fireballs, burning the goblins. 'Down to three.' Gabumon roasted two. 'Down to one.'
Thhe last goblin knew it was going to die; it had seen how quickly its comrades had fallen. It ran at Kira, point forward. 'You overreached.'
Kira sidestepped and brought his sword to the goblin's sword, drawing sparks. They clashed and the goblin carried on going forward. Kira then, as the goblin was running past, took his right hand away from the hilt of the katana and activated chidori. In one second he thrust his hand through the goblin's body, killing it.
He threw the goblin's body to Gabumon. "Alright. Gabumon. Try to level up! We are going to the monkey next!"

Child of the Ancients: An Apocalypse LitRPG
It all started in the middle of Dante's nap. He wanted to sleep his life away, but the system denied his request. Instead, it began to transform the Earth, integrating it into the multiverse by granting everyone stats and skills. He was talented, or so the system thought. And that meant he needed to be challenged. After being sent into a deadly cavern, Dante strives for the future he's always desired. But when he learns about the secrets hidden within him, he's shaken to his very core. He wishes for the nightmare to end until something goes wrong. [The world will end in one year.] Instead of everyone receiving a relatively gentle tutorial, the people of Earth are deemed redundant. Dante makes it his goal to save as many people as he can before the world ends, but with billions of lives at stake, he might have to turn into a monster before he can become a hero. Planned updates (2500+ words): M/W/F. 12pm AEST/ 9am EST. M-F during Writeathon. [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Author's Note: All system apocalypse novels seem to jump straight over the apocalypse itself, which I find very sad. I don't want this to turn into a typical fantasy novel in about ten chapters. Instead, I hope to explore the destruction of society and how things would look if superpowers suddenly appeared in the real world. Before the real apocalypse happens, of course. There will be base building, and likely romance once things settle down. Also dragons, because they are awesome :)

Rooms of the Desolate
Rooms of the Desolate is a collection of short stories designed to guide the reader through the many rooms and mysteries of the bleak and greyscale labyrinth of the Desolate. The first entry, "The Forever Tower" follows an unnamed wanderer climbing an endless, colourless tower; the only world they have ever known. As they slowly ascend alongside the masses, they consider the nature of their world and look to the corridors as temptation beckons. The second entry, "Production Line", follows an engineer in a boundless factory, who encounters a product that does not wish to bow to the overseers and makes them question their belief in the truth and duties they were made to believe. Content guidelines: Current entries do not include explicit profanity, but future entries may do so, hence the presence of that tag. Some entries do include gore and violence, though not currently to particularly extreme degrees. The Desolate is exactly that: a desolate world; as such, it is bleak, downtrodden, and may deal with mental struggles. Cover art credit: Adam Borkowski on Pexels.
