Chapter 5 - The birth of Taiyo - Hikaru

Who could resist those puppy dog eyes?!

Hikaru could not help but admit defeat at the hands of his beloved younger brother, though he did get to see something beautiful- Ruka’s rare smile. Resigned to his fate of being unable to meet with Ruka in the game till level 100, Hikaru decided to turn his disappointment into fuel for his desire to reach level 100 as quick as possible and become as strong as possible to be able to protect his beloved younger brother in the game.

“Don’t worry, Ruka-chan! Your Onii-san is coming for you! Wait for me!” Hikaru resolved, as he stepped into his pod with determination in his eyes.

With a flash, Taiyo appeared in Inceptio. Without a moment to lose, Taiyo jogged enthusiastically off to the Basic Training Centre. Many will skip the basic training and go leveling first, but what they do not know is that by completing the basic training, one is able to level up faster due to having a higher proficiency in swordsmanship. There is also a bonus when one completes the training besides free usage of the centre, they obtain a sword in recognition for their effort and skill. Although, the duration of the basic training is very long, but to Taiyo the sacrifice is worth it. It is rumored that the sword received is given according to the player’s ability. Those with prior experience with kendo and swordsmanship will definitely benefit greatly from this training. The reason why many ignore this training is that they complete beginners, so it does not matter how diligent they are in the training, they will at best get a normal steel sword.

Hikaru‘s family is a distinguish family well known for producing great kendo practitioners and has a dojo where Hikaru and Ruka trains at on a daily basis. His family has been well known as dual sword wielders, disciplining many swordsman and kendo practitioners. Although Ruka and Hikaru started training together at the age of 5, Ruka had shown much more talent then Hikaru. Thus, Ruka though younger was next in line, as the successor to the family dojo. Both of them have attained a sho-dan,the equivalent of a black belt, which is the highest rank they could get at the age of 17.

Knowing that Ruka and Him hold such an unfair advantage, Hikaru previously told Ruka to try his luck and train at the Basic training centre to fully take advantage of their superior swordsmanship.

“Hello Instructor-san. May I train here?” Taiyo asked the NPC politely.

“Young chap! This training is not for the weak minded. You must complete 10 hours of training. Here is a wooden sword to train with. Take the scarecrow on the left.” The instructor bellowed, as he pointed to the first scarecrow on the left.

At the height of 190cm, the instructor towered over Taiyo which was just 171cm tall. The instructor looked menacing with his stern glare, toned body shaped and rippling with muscles the instructor appeared more like a wrestler than a swordsman. One punch from the instructor and Taiyo can say bye bye to all his HP.

Taiyo gulped as he asked: “May I request for a second sword, Instructor-san?”

The instructor studied Taiyo for a while, then replied: “My name is Katsunagi Sendou. You may call me Sendou. You have been the first to ask such a request. Go ahead, young chap. I expect great things from you.”

With that two wooden daggers materialised in Taiyo’s hands.

“Identify!”

Taiyo walked into the basic training centre towards his new friend for the next 10 hours. The interior was befitting of the instructor’s oppressing aura. Numerous steel swords decorated the walls of the training centre with two neat rows of scarecrows lined up.

Taiyo started his usual sword training on the scarecrow. He began slashing at the scarecrow with both swords in hand with increasing strength and speed. His blade moved at the speed of light, too fast for the eye to see. The people around stopped and stare at his training in amazement, even the NPC instructor’s programming could not help but take notice of him.

Various stats appeared as he continued to strike at the scarecrow.

“These skills will be useful…Ruka…Wait for me…Your Onii-san will get stronger!” Taiyo thought, as he started to munch on bread which was part of the newbie pack. Bread tasted exactly like the plain bread bought at any local bakery. The fluffiness of the bread, the softness and crusty outer layer of the bread, even the pores within the bread were so realistic. For once, Hikaru felt amaze at how realistic the simulation of taste is in Otherworlds. Compared to other VRMMOs, in terms of realism, Hikaru can safely say that Otherworlds has outcompeted any game that has been released.

Tired of simply slashing at the scarecrow for hours, Taiyo decide to use the secret sword techniques his Uncle taught him. Seeing that no one but the Instructor was around, Taiyo went into the starting stance of the technique and concentrated. With speed and precision, Taiyo’s blade slash at the vital points of the human body. If the scarecrow was human, he would have been decapitated. It was a truly deadly skill that would have probably never have been used unless Hikaru was faced in a life and death situation.

A new sword technique is identified. Do you wish to register it as a sword skill?

I better just stick to normal training for now.” Taiyo thought aloud, still stunned that the game system can recognise it as a sword technique and even better accept such a ridiculous name.

“Hmmmm…. What about other techniques of the Sakurai Family? Fufufu…This will be interesting…” Taiyo thought, as he smirked to himself. A Pandora’s Box has been opened.

The instructor felt a chill in the air and shivered subconsciously, as he saw was Taiyo laughing menacingly while maniacally slashing at the scarecrow.
