《Isekaid Friendship》Chapter 9

We leave the city and see a lot of people on the road. I take the map and look at Mashiki City. On the outskirts off its massive, stone walls, I see a small river, a few tiny forests, and a small farmhouse. It reminds me of my house. It has a large red silo and a few fields. Then I look at all the roads leading towards the farm but there aren’t any. I guess you have to pave your own roads. “We’ll just hug the wall until we’re close to that rock formation there. Then we go right until we find the farm.” I say as I point towards the pile of rocks on the map. “Isn’t that supposed to be a small mountain or something?” Ikattef asks. “It reminds me more of Stonehenge then a small mountain but that doesn’t even matter at all. Let’s just get moving along” I say. “Can I roll there?” Danji asks. “No.” Is all I tell him.
After a long walk we find the landmark. “See, it’s like Stonehenge.” I say while looking at all of the different rocks, standing in a triangle. “You sure? To me it’s more like something we’d get a math class on.” Ikattef says. “I mean fair enough. But still just imagine what it’s purpose could be or for how long it’s been standing here. Who knows?” I ask my friends. “Don’t go all philosophical on us man. Not again.” Danji begs. “Okay I get it, I get it. But think about it though, maybe we’ve just crossed something that’ll be incredibly important some day.” I speak. “No stop it before you start hurting my brain.” Danji stops me.
“Why don’t we just move forward and ignore the triangle-thingy?” Ikattef suggests. “Seconded.” Danji replies. “One day I’ll be back and find out your secrets you damned triangle of rocks.” I whisper as I start walking. And so, we walked for a few minutes. “I can see the farm.” Danji shouts a little loudly. “I know, we can see it as well.” Ikattef tells him. “But still.” Danji says as he’s trying to defend himself. “But still what? We’re still not blind indeed.” Ikattef says. “Could you children please stop arguing?” I ask them. “What we wouldn’t?” Ikattef asks. “I would probably cut of your tail and put it in your mouth.” I tell him, even though I wouldn’t do that. “I’ll stop.” Ikattef says. We move forward and see an older man with a shovel in his hand. He’s started staring at us. We walk up to him. “So, your young fella’s have seen my poster. Let me show you around the block and you can start destroying those damn slimes. Follow me.” He tells us. We follow him towards a field. “So, this was my field full of cows. But as you can see there ain’t any anymore. THOSE DAMN SLIMES ATE MY COWS. And my crops as well.” The man screams. “We’ll get rid of them.” Ikattef says. “You sure young man? These little slimy devils duplicate every twenty minutes. So, you get rid of them in that time, or their numbers will double.” The man explains. I see. They’re basically big one celled organism that eat everything that they can. “So where are they?” I ask the old man. “They’re in the field behind that hill.” He speaks. “Alright, leave it to us. Your problem will be gone in no time.” Danji assures the man. Why do I get a bad feeling about this? “Okay let’s go people. We have no time to waste.” I tell both of my friends.

We walk over the small hill and see a sea of colorful slime. “What did we get ourselves into?” Ikattef asks us. “A weird kind off mess I don’t know we’ll get out off alive.” I answer. “Come on guys, don’t be so negative. We’ll manage right?” Danji says trying to keep up the spirit. “You sure?” I say as I look around. We have a large field covered in slimes of different colors and a small lake right beside it. “So, what’s the plan?” Ikattef asks me. “Why do you ask me?” I ask him. “Because you’ve got the Greater Wisdom man.” Danji says as he joings into the conversation. “I wouldn’t say it’s really great though. But that doesn’t matter right now. I say we just charge in because I don’t know what else to do.” I just say while thinking. ‘Whatever you say man.” Danji says as he charges in. “FOR SOURU!” Ikattef shouts as he charges in as well. “For Souru sake, please have mercy on us.” I just sigh as I finally charge in. I aim my magic missile and shoot. It gets absorbed into the slime. Then I take out my sword.
“IT BURNS! IT BURNS SO BADLY!” I hear Ikattef scream. I look to my left I see that Ikattef is covered with rainbow colored slime. “GET TO THE WATER!” I scream back. I see him spurt to the river. “DANJI GET OUT OF THERE!” I shout at Danji while I run towards the river. “But they tickle though.” Danji says while making a snow angel in the slime. “ARE YOU IMMUME TO EVERYTHING?” I just sigh. “I guess?” Danji asks. “Just come here please, before they swallow you whole.” I instruct him. He slowly walks over. Once he enters the river, I focus myself on Ikattef. He’s laying down in the river, burn marks all over his body. “Are you alright?” I ask him. “C-can I be ho-honest?” he asks. “Please be.” I just tell him. “I think that I’ve never felt as bad in my entire life. Like counting the life before this one as well.” Ikattef tells me. “Can’t you heal him like Gaima did?” Danji asks me. “I’ve never done it so I wouldn’t know…” I speak. “JUST TRY IT PLEASE!” Ikattef screams in pain. “OKAY OKAY I’LL TRY!” I shout as I start to panic. I try to remember how Gaima healed Danji. I can see perfectly how she takes her hand and probably focused her mana on her entire hand. Okay let’s try that. I sigh as I put both of my hands on the chest of my badly wounded friend. No. At this point he’s basically my younger brother. I take a deep breath. “Heal.” I say as I try to focus all my mana onto it. Okay that didn’t work. I have to try again. “Heal.” I say with a little more desperation in my voice. Still didn’t work. I lick my hands and try again. “Heal. Heal. HEAL GOD FUCKING DAMNIT HEAL!” I scream but nothing happens. I begin to see memories of myself. I can see them dying. I can see their corpses in the front seats of my car. No. Not again. “HEAL! HEAL, HEAL, HEAL, HEAL, HEAL, HEAL, HEAL. JUST HEAL.” I scream while tears start to form in my eyes. I can see it again. The blood. I can smell it again. I start to breath rapidly.

“You, okay?” Danji asks with a faint bit of fright in his voice. It makes me snap out of it. “I’m alright.” I say as my entire body shivers. I look back to Ikattef. Maybe I could try something different. Instead of having my hands on his chest I hover over it now. I close my eyes. I can see every single vein in my body. I can feel my horns becoming warm. I can feel them growing a little more as I feel all of the mana, I have left in my body being transferred to my wet hands. I wait a bit until I have no mana left to use. Then I open my eyes. I see a silver orb with a faint tint of gold in there, covering my hands. Then I see Ikattef who’s fur is back. I collapse in tears, knowing that if I wouldn’t have been there, he would’ve died. “Segate, what did you just do?” Ikattef asks me. “Whatever it was it looked cooler than what Gaima did.” Danji says. “I wouldn’t know what it is myself… It seems to be some kind off healing orb.” I speculate.
“Well then, now it’s time for a rematch.” Ikattef says as he stands up, with passion in his eyes. “You know that if you do that now I won’t be able to make another orb-thingy. All of my mana is depleted.” I quickly tell him, so he’d stop whatever he was going to do. “Then how are we going to get rid of the slimes?” Danji asks. Then I can feel a surge of mana. I look around and see that the slimes have duplicated. Then I see a stream of slime flowing into the river. And then I see it all dissolve. “Okay I’ve got something.” I just say. “And that is?” Danji asks. “Well, the plan is that you’re going to get slimy as hell.” I speak. They stare at me for a second. “I’m lost for words.” Ikattef just tells me. “Me too. And that’s a first for me.” Danji says. “Don’t worry I’ll explain once I’ve figured out the details.” I tell them.

Luck And Chronomancy
Time Magic is the best magic as everyone knows, although there are lots of unique Talents in the world. Most people only remember Haste because it is hard to get to higher Phases of Chronomancy. That is still enough to make the Talent iconic. A lucky enough Aleatory Talent can position you for greatness or leave you languishing in obscurity. The only true equality in the world is when that glowing message pops up at 8 years old. Even if it doesn't activate until you are an adult at 16 you still know. Sure you can find a new dungeon spawn and get another chance at a rare Talent, even this one, but you have to already be ready to delve into the *Far Wilds*, which is far easier with wealth or family power. This is the story of where my good fortune took me and the difference it made, even among a party of 7 others including an Arcanist. It is a journey of magic and monsters but also math, which some think is actually worse. Luckily I was born with Intelligence and Focus as my personal traits, and my parents were scholars. Of course Chronomancy can also be a frontline combat talent. Versitility well beyond other Elder Talents like Gravity, Abstraction, or Arcana. Might could have worked for me, too. I also met a runaway princess. All the best adventures have a princess. She hated being a noble and we didn't get married but it still counts. Besides she really filled out our front line. All that Leadership training came in handy. I still don't know where she's from. Who cares? How well Haste goes with giant hammers is what's important. I never learned much about anyone in the party, except the one I grew up with. I'm not a people person. I just wanted to optimize dungeon clearing time. *******Story Details******* No romance, politics, or traumatizing content, slice of life, or even dialogue. 1st person narration, like a guide/adventure log. 2000-7000 words a day, maybe 40-60% rpgish combat log with some reasoning on combat decisions, with the rest character Talent discussion and progression stuff. 8 person party with a decent variety in roles. Party members usually have 2 primary functions. Told from the support/control Chronomancer's perspective. Each party member will have 6 Basic/Background Traits, then 3 actual Talents with abilities. Capstone from their Educational Institution, Arbritrary as a gift from the temples, and Aleatory which is decided at birth, revealed at 8, and activated after adulthood at 16. Aleatory Traits ignore requirements and are random why is why they are so important. They'll gain new Talents from finding Dungeons to consume in the *Wilds*. Mature dungeons in cities can provide *Challenges* to raise the Phase of a Talent, up to 3 times from 1 to 4. Each character will get to roughly 8 non-Trait Talents. Attributes come exclusive from Talents, are required by Talents, and provide various effects as well. I designed about 220 Talents with abilities, 4 in each of 4 phases. "Traits" are just Attribute stuff. I'm not sure how many will be detailed in the story, more than 100 for sure. I used Talents because I want to be free of the legacy of tabletop. Half those rules are just because of the limitations inherent in a pre-computer ttrpg. This story mostly uses combat Talents, although like 1/3 of the 220 are for crafting and other society and economy stuff. If you really wanted to be a Thief you might take Intuition, Awarness, and Might for Basic Traits and Deftness, Manipulation, and Trickery for Family/Education. Then you'd pick Acrobatics, and Climbing for Educational Capstone and Arbitrary traits. You Aleatory Trait might be Shadow(Light/Dark) Magic, Umbramancy. A Bard might swap Dexterity for Charisma, Music for Acrobatics, and have gotten Illusion(Shadow/Sound(Air/Force)) for their Aleatory Trait.

A Study in Rain
A Study in Rain deals with the realistic aspects of a post-apocalyptic world, and shows the life of one of the last remaning humans. The story focuses on worldbuilding and exploration of the world by the protagnist. Common themes throughout the story are lonliness, seclusion and survival. If you have ever wondered how it would be like to live as the last human in the world, then this is the story for you. This story, like my others, occurs in a shared universe. you can check out the short story series I'm writing here: Dark Fantasy Short Stories.
