《The Strongest Hero VS The Weakest World?》Chapter 4 - Learning Magic

I continue to stay seated as I wait for the next instructor to arrive. Then, as I was waiting, a magic-looking pentagram appears out of nowhere in front of me. The circle begins spinning clockwise. As it does, a beautiful girl slowly appears above it.
The girl herself has long sky-blue hair, blue eyes, and a blue-colored robe that matches her hair and eyes.
After a moment, the circle stops spinning and disappears. The girl looks at me and smiles at me.
"Hello. I'm your next instructor..."
She begins giving her greeting; however, mid-way through, she stops. Her smile turns into a frown. Then, her perplexion, which was energetic and happy-looking, turns dull and lifeless.
"Ugh, never mind. We're going to start the lesson. She all of these books? Read all of them. When you do, call me, and I'll give you a test. Okay, that's it. Bye. Teleport.
After giving me instructions, she calls out a spell and instantly vanishes. I stay seated as I look at where she was in confusion and disbelief.
I stayed like this for five minutes. Afterward, I shake my head while attempting to process what just occurred.
What in the world just happened?! When she first came, she had a happy expression, but after observing me, her expression dulled? Am I that ugly and dumb that she doesn't want to teach me? And what was her instruction?! Read all these books, and then I'll be tested on them. That's an almost impossible feat to accomplish. I mean, there seem to be millions of books here...
After yelling inside my head, I get up from my seat and walk over to a bookshelf. I scan it, searching for a starting book. After about a minute of searching, I find five books. I take all five to my seat and begin reading them.
...
"Master! It's time for your next break."
"Huh? Oh, uh, thanks."
Breaking out of my concentration, I close the book I'm currently on. Thankfully, I was able to read all five books. Well, I didn't finish that last book, but I was 96% done with it. Anyhow, I'll summarize what I learned.
Magic exists in all worlds but is found in different forms. The traditional form is casting spells through mana. Mana is the power source for magic. All living beings should be able to obtain mana; however, there are some cases where they cannot get any. Those beings are known as Mana-less.
Those who can obtain mana can increase their capacity and regeneration abilities. They can only be by meditation or by casting spells, though both increase them extremely slowly.
After getting mana, users can cast spells. Different spells require different amounts of mana. Suppose the user doesn't have the correct amount of mana, the spell discharges. If a spell discharges, all of the user's mana gets drained, which causes the user to faint, and the collected mana converts to miasma. Large amounts of miasma will create monsters. This means that worlds without any mana, which there are (Earth), means that monsters cannot spawn.

Aside from mana, spells have their own classifications. First, there exist ten types of attributes: Fire, Water, Ground, Wind, Plant, Light, Dark, Null, Space, and Lightning. All spells require an attribute to work. For instance, water-ball requires the water attribute to work. Without it, nothing occurs.
These attributes are classified as Magic-type skills. A user doesn't require one to use the spell; however, the power output plummets without it. The more you use spells under an attribute, the higher the skill raises, which raises the power output.
Other than these attributes, there are types of spells: Life, Support, Combat, and Misc. Types are used to make finding or learning spells easier. Life spells are those that help the user with their daily life. Support skills are those that give status effects or gives the user support, like healing magic. Combat spells are those used in a fight. The misc type is for spells that don't belong in any of these types.
There are two ways to cast spells. The first way is to use chants. There are various ways to chant a spell. The most common way is to say a long sentence or chant. The next way is to say the spell's name, like Teleportation (What that girl did earlier). The last way is to cast spells chantless. This is a hard technique to use but has many benefits when mastered. The user will be able to cast spells without moving their lips, saying the chant in their mind instead.
The second way is to program magical circles. This isn't very practical as it requires more mana to cast spells and is time-consuming. That said, users use this way to use spells from afar. Magical crystals, which are dropped by monsters, are crystals that have mana within them. Using magical circles, users can attach programs to the crystals. For example, users can attach light spells to crystals to light up dark areas.
And that summarizes all that I have learned today. There are more details from the information, but I skipped those. Yawn! Anyway, I should take a bath and sleep for my break...
"Thanks, you two."
I thank the maids and depart, heading towards the showers. After a nice refresher, I head towards my bed and instantly fell asleep.
...
An hour passes by, and the maids come to wake me up; however, as I wake up, I suddenly faint, probably due to the lack of sleep and food.
...
After a while, I wake up and am greeted by the black void. I look around, both trying to comprehend where I am and to wake up fully. As I try to progress everything, a familiar voice sounds to me.
"Geez! You're finally awake. I don't understand why you humans require sleep. Anyway, hurry and get up. Your maids prepared some food for you. After eating, head straight up to the third floor so we can begin our lesson. We already wasted enough time as it is..."
"Huh, Akria? Why are you here? Also, what's this dark void?"
"Hmm... To make things simple, this is another world where time progresses very slow. Every hour that passes in the divine realm, an entire day passes here. You have been in this world for six hours, so fifteen minutes have passed in our realm. After you eat, I imagine you'll have wasted a half hour or so."
"Hmm?"
I observe my surroundings some more after Akria finishes her sentence. Nothing but a black void can be seen; however, I find my soft bed when I look down.
"Umm, how do I get out?"
"Easy. Haven't you noticed the crystal-neckless we're both wearing? While we have these on, we are sent here. Anyway, use this neckless on your breaks to sleep. You won't be able to take anything with you, so the only purpose of this world is to sleep. You can't even activate any of your skills. Now then, I'll be in the classroom. Don't keep me waiting."
"Yes, Akria-sensei!"
After speaking with Akria, she disappears into the void as she takes off the neckless. I do the same and appear back on my bed in the master bedroom. I get up, take a quick shower, change clothes, and hurry to the dining room to eat breakfast.
Once I do so and apologize to the maids, I quickly head upstairs. By the way, I place the neckless on the nightstand so that I wouldn't lose it. Anyway, after getting to the classrooms, Akria glares at me to take a seat.
"Alright, you will be continuing the Ancient Tones book. Go!"
"Yes, Akria-sensei!"
I grab the book and immediately start reading where I left off yesterday. Hours pass by as I concentrate on reading. Lucky for me, my reading ability came in handy as I finish the entire book on time. I close the book and hand it to Akria.
"Hmm? What. Is there a part you don't understand?"
"No, I finished it."
"Huh?! Impossible!"
I shrug.
"Okay, then you wouldn't mind a simple test. Answer my question in ancient tones. (Changes to Ancient Tones) State your name and where you came from. Also, describe the meaning of statuses."
"(Ancient Tones) Yes... My name is Yemon. I am from la planet of Earth. Statuses lare..."
I continue giving my answer with a few mistakes. Sadly, I'm not that fluent in it yet, but learning a new language is way easier, unlike in my previous life.
After finishing, Akria applause.
"Amazing. I didn't think you could understand this language this early. At this rate, you'll be able to finish the entire five-book series and master the language in under a week!"
"Wait... Five-book series?"
"Yes. There are four more books that get increasingly harder with more complex problems and texts. You should be fine if you got this far. Anyway, time is up for today. Make sure to be in class on time. Bye."
As Akria departs, Kevin enters, and he immediately starts the lessons. He talks more about status and that of monsters. To summarise, monsters also possess statuses, and they can gain new skills if they practice enough. Unfortunately for them, since most of them are not that smart or intelligent, they cannot get new skills from training and only keep the skills they are born with.
That said, they can still be powerful even if they don't train. The miasma in the atmosphere gives the monsters pre-skills and levels up their status. For this reason, monsters in concentrated miasma will be stronger than those in weaker miasma.
...
After his class, he switches with Allie. As she comes in, I instantly get up and give a proper greeting. Sadly, I still got yelled at. Apparently, my proper greeting still isn't good enough. After being yelled at, I had to take a test over that manner book. I took the test with confidence; however, since I didn't read all of it, mostly the ending, I had to make some guesses when I got to the last questions. That said, overall, I made 90%! Unfortunately, this wasn't good enough for Allie, and I got yelled at and had to re-read the entire book again.
Once her class ends, it's time for my break. I spent this time eating lunch and taking a quick nap inside that crystal Akria gave me. Afterward, I head outside for my horrible training with Ryuma.
...
"Agg... ha... ha..."
"Good job, Yemon. We'll be doing this same training tomorrow. I want this simple exercise of 3,000 situps to take ten minutes, if not three minutes."
"Ya... yes, sir!"
Ryuma departs as I stay on the ground, sore and tired from his training. Like yesterday, I had to do situps. Since I could not finish my set yesterday, I had to finish it today, which meant I had to do 3,500 situps. Luckily, I finished doing them by pushing myself; however, my current condition isn't favorable. There were times where I wanted to die too. Anyhow, I manage to survive my next day of training.
After five minutes, I finally got up and went to take a shower. Then, I ate dinner and headed to bed so that I could rest my body. Once my break ends, I head upstairs to start my magic training.
Once inside, I take a seat and decide to wait a couple of minutes to see if that instructor would appear. After about five minutes of waiting, I gave up and decided that she would never appear back here again.
Like yesterday, I use this time to read some of the books that are inside the classroom. I continue reading until the end of class where my maids come to get me. On break, I went to sleep inside the crystal. When I waked up, I took a shower, change some clothes, and ate breakfast. I then headed to the classroom and started the day over again...
And just like that, an entire week passes by.

Wildling
Blurb: Silas--a scavenger living off the ruins of humanity--has spent his entire life fighting tooth and nail to provide for himself and his crew. But when a scavenging run goes awry and he's snatched up by an android patrol, he finds himself thrown into a cage and priced to sell as a pet. And when a suitor comes calling, he fears the worst: that he'll be turned into a Domestic, a human lapdog brainwashed into total obedience. Instead, he discovers an equally disturbing truth: that the creatures who stole his world have created a videogame the likes of which Earth has never seen; a sprawling, game-like theme park where humans are the Avatars and androids are the players who control them. And to make matters worse, his android guide is as hopeless as they come, having gotten all of her previous Avatars killed in record time. So if Silas wants to regain his freedom, he'll not only have to fight his way through a world that was specifically designed to murder him in brutal fashion--he'll also have to convince his android guide that he should be the one calling the shots. FAQS: Q: Who are you, handsome stranger? A: I'm Kyle Kirrin, the author of Shadeslinger, book 1 of The Ripple System, published by Portal Books, and I write crunchy LitRPG. Q: What is Wildling? And is it complete? A: Wildling is a crunchy LitRPG mash up of Fantasy and Science Fiction. And yup, Wildling is already complete at 64 chapters, or about 120,000 thousand words. You're looking at something like a third draft here--it's fairly polished, but it hasn't been picked over by a copy editor yet nor has my developmental editor seen it. Q: Upload schedule? A: 5 initial chapters today (2/15/2021) and one chapter a day for the next month. After that I'll probably slow down to 2 or 3 chapters a week until the story is complete. Q: How crunchy is it? A: It's pretty crunchy. I'd put it on the same tier as Ascend/The Land/RSSG, but it might be a bit crunchier than those three? Q: Is this the first book in a series or a web novel or what? And what are your plans for it? A: It's currently a standalone with series potential. Full disclosure: this story may head the way of my publisher eventually, but will be available on RR for quite a while no matter what. Likely several months after it's complete with plenty of warning before/if it's taken down. Q: What kind of build does the MC create? A: Sword and board! Q: Crafting? A: Plenty! Crafting isn't as center stage as it is in The Way of the Shaman, but it's close. Q: Base building? A: Two fully separate, distinct bases, both of which play a major role in the story. Q: VRMMO? Portal? Reincarnation or what? A: This one's a bit tricky. Basically an advanced race has created a game-like world that closely resembles a theme park. Think Westworld but with copious amounts of loot. And the MC has to fight his way through that to earn his freedom. Q: Permadeath? A: Nope! The MC gets 3 lives to play through the entirety of the game world, and death is extremely punishing, but not fatal. Q: Harem? Or romance? A: No and no. Q: Cursing? Blood? A: Quite a bit of cursing, yeah. There's blood, too, but it's not a gory book by any means. Q: How can I support? A: Instead of a Patreon/donations etc, I'd ask that you consider giving my debut LitRPG Shadeslinger a chance. It's free on Kindle Unlimited and the audio is already out narrated by Travis Baldree. It's an epic fantasy VRMMO where the main character gets 3 days of exclusive access to a new game plus a snarky, talking axe to guide him through it in exchange for agreeing to become the target of a serverwide manhunt once the Head Start period ends. Q: How's it similar to Wildling? And how's it different? A. The crunch level is very similar, but Shadeslinger is a much lighter, epic fantasy take on the genre. It's also VRMMO, but without any real world components aside from the first chapter. The MC is very different--he comes off as a bit of a jerk early on and can take a bit to warm up to, especially before his backstory is revealed--but he's also got a talking axe that constantly puts him in his place. Shadeslinger's a much more humorous story in general, and it's a great deal more polished as well. Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoy Wildling!
