《Maria's Adventure》Chapter 11: hidden memory

Before the first sunlight ever hit the window, Elaina woke up from the chair she fell asleep in. Her back and neck felt sore all over. The past two weeks haven’t been kind to her physically and mentally. Compared to dealing with her Lady’s love-struck shenanigan, this felt almost equally as exhausted. With a stretch, Elaina bruised off the exhaustion and ready for a new day. However, when she looked at the bed, she was horrified. Her master is missing. With a dash, she opened the door violently, grabbed the nearest servant she saw and shook them while screaming.
“Her lady, her lady is gone!” Elaina stuttered.
The servant she shook look awkwardly at her then pointed his finger toward the long hall.
“Her lady woke up a moment ago. She said that she wants to visit the garden and watched the morning sunrise.”
“WHAT!”
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Originally, Maria was planning to stay asleep until the sun rises but her stomach growl as if reminding her not to forget what Tir said a few moments ago. Seeing Elaina sleeping, Maria didn't want to wake her up and decided to go off on her own. Maria soon regretted that decision because wherever she went, the servant all looked very shock when they see her. One of the servants asked:
“Excuse me, my lady, why are you alone? where is Elaina?”
Due to the embarrassment from all the staring, Maria shouted at the poor servant.
“Silence! I want to visit the garden. Don’t block my way with a trivia question.” The sudden outburst scared the poor servant into submission. Seeing that she might have gone a bit too far in her display of authority, Maria immediately changed her attention to another servant "You, prepare some food and bring it to the garden, and do not let me waiting."

To be able to act and gave commands to strangers so perfectly was all thanks to Elisa's memory. However, the main reason why she was so in character was that she got a headache and her mood got worse by the second. The servants quickly noticed their master’s icy cold aura and retreat to the side to make way for their master. Navigated the mansion with Elisa’s memories, Maria quickly found herself in the garden. Everything is still somewhat dark, but their outline can be seen with little illumination from the sunlight hiding below the horizon. The atmosphere is quite pleasant with light wind circulated the fragrant of many strange flowers that reside within the garden. Maria’s mood was improved upon visiting the garden. After the servants bring out the sun lounger and a table with some food, Maria was able to lay down comfortably and reorganized her thought in a pleasant early morning atmosphere. To Maria's surprise, she found out what caused her headache was related to Elisa’s memories. There were some hidden memories that were sealed behind the thick blanket of a more sensible memory. “Maybe I could view it now because of the effect of the pill?.” Maria thought “However, this is quite an interesting situation”. As Maria gave more thought about Elisa’s memories, she found a lot of opportunities she could take to make a profit out of the situation. Before Maria knew it, the sun already raised sky high and stood beside her is Elaina looking over her.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Elaina was able to locate her master thanks to the help of the other servants but after stomping here, she didn’t know what to do next. Her master appeared to be quite healthy despite the long coma. There was also no reason to disturb her sleep in this pleasant atmosphere. It was then that Maria woke up from her nap. Elaina helped her master sit up.

“How are you feeling, my lady?”
“I am fine, Elaina.” Maria looked at the beautiful morning sky and as if she remembered something, she asked “Any news from my father regarding the prince’s announcement?”
Elaina sighed heavily.
“Yes, although it is not official yet, the lord had agreed to accept a very large sum of money from his majesty to annul the engagement with his son.”
Silent descent upon the garden. Finally, Maria spoke.
“I need to go to the Academy…”
“My lady, you just woke up from a coma. I cannot allow you to do that.”
“I am fine, Elaina. Besides, the reason I go to school is not what you think it is. Trust me.”
Elaina doubtful look at her master's expression but couldn’t read much from her master’s stoic expression.
“I guess it’s fine, but I insist that I must accompany you. I must also warn you that our Lord had given me the order to restrain you if the situation calls for it. Please keep that in mind.”
“…Right.” Maria then sit back and watched the garden bathed in the sun
“…”
…
After some preparation, Maria and Elaina got on a carriage and headed to the Academy. Although Maria had seen it in Elisa’s memories, it still excited her to see the Academy with her own eyes. Unlike the Palace of Knowledge, the Academy is a big training ground where the students get real combat experience either by clearing scenarios made by the teacher or doing mock combat with other students.
Occasionally, students can also apply to become the direct disciple and receive unique training design by their teacher. Leila, who was Elisa’s greatest nemesis, received special training from the principal of the Academy herself. Looking at it from an outsider's perspective, it was quite foolish to challenge her. In fact, Leila didn’t even need the protection of those “white knights” against Elisa. They probably intervened in their own self-interest to gain some “points” with her. Leila, after all, was very popular. Aside from being one of the top beauty of the continent, she was also very smart and had a lot of talents. She was said to be the main candidate for becoming the Church’s saintess and gain a lot of influence in the future.
Maria had no interest in clashing with people like that. To Elisa, it was a matter of love and honor, but not so much for Maria. She was more interested in how to exploit the situation that Elisa had accidentally created in the pursuit of love. It might not work as she hoped it would but there was no harm to try. Thinking about the plan made Maria happy inside. It had always been kind of dull not being able to do some kind of mischief. Now that she got a chance to do so, how would she afford to miss it? No matter what, she will make this the best day of her life.

Maybe with a bit of luck and planning, he can build a force to defend the world without anyone realizing it. Author's Thoughts: What is litRPG (From wikipedia) - LitRPG, short for Literary Role Playing Game, is a literary genre combining the conventions of MMORPGs with science-fiction fantasy novels.[1] LitRPG is a literary genre where games or game-like challenges form an essential part of the story. A LitRPG work simultaneously narrates the story of characters inside and outside of the game-world. At least some of the characters in a LitRPG novel therefore understand that they are playing a game: they are 'meta-aware'. So, while Tolkien's Lord of the Rings is a fantasy novel, a book about people creating avatars and interacting in a Lord of the Rings MMORPG would be a LitRPG novel. Why do I read them? You know, I am not too sure. I love MMOs. I played them, quit them, joined up and repeated the cycle. They are fun! They are a massive waste of time but so are most games. Do I want to read about someone else playing them? Sort of?The advent of VR and the possibility of VR someday becoming so immersive that you can't tell them from reality sets the imagination on fire. What if this could be life? But most stories fall short. At the end of the day the protagonist hangs up his VR helmet and goes to have dinner with his mom and dad or other family and it becomes meaningless. It's like the story that ends because the main character woke up and nothing you read matters. There have been some books that explore the concept of the intersection of reality and total immersion VR. Enders Game is a classic. There were a few others that escape me but they exist, however, the cross between the game and reality is weak.So what if the game was real? The technology needed for total immersion VR is so advanced that by the time we reach that goal technology should have naturally evolved to include several items. You must have direct neural input. You simply can't have a total immersion (all senses and perfect presence) experience without this basic prerequisite. If you have direct neural access, you can probably do neat things like feed knowledge and skills directly to that person. You can undoubtedly do many horrible things as well. Muscles are controlled by the brain. If you control the brain why would you let the body just sit there and rot? A person that sits unmoving for 24 hours a day will have their body whither away just like a coma patient. However, if you control the brain you could control the muscles. On a basic level, this would be isometric impulses, working muscle group against muscle group to avoid atrophy. Taken to its logical conclusion you would be able to gain muscle mass and program muscle memory. The flip side is that you could remote control their body... but let's not go there. So what would people do if it were real? Well, they would probably limit and regulate it since the drawbacks are very obvious. Even if you look at the basic aspects of this you can see some negative possibilities. Look at the Sword Art Online anime. Personally, I think they missed the boat by putting a bomb in the VR helmet. Do you really need a bomb when you have direct access to the brain? So what kind of events would you need to have a situation where the obvious drawbacks haven't been explored? Maybe a society where the advancement of technology has so far outstripped the explorations of its applications that ignorance was truly bliss? Okay, so I had to put in an alien invasion to kickstart the premise, but that was just one of the possibilities.
