“Due to Prince Carlos's violation of the rule, Elisa win by default.”
The Referee’s announcement caused quite a disturbance within the crowd. Before the crowd got rowdier, Odius use the voice amplifying device next to him and shout “ I can see you from over here. Are you truly a Master or a rat? Come on out and clean up your mess.”
“Who are you calling a Rat!” Flying out of the midst of the crowd was a figure of a woman in her 40. She donned herself in a luxurious gold robe with diamond initial “E” engraved on her chest. She had long golden hair and a pair of deep blue eyes that shine as if they were glowing “You own me an apology and an explanation!” She growled.
“To what do I own you an apology nor an explanation?” Odius squinted as if he didn’t understand.
“Don’t play the fool with me. Why did you announce that my disciple violated the rule?” as she pointed at Prince Carlos collapsed on the stage.
“Isn’t it a common rule that the participant cannot receive help from the outside stage during the match?” Odius scratched his head with his finger while beckoning another young referee “Hey you, it is, isn’t it?”
To which the young referee replied, “Yes sir, it has been and always will be.”
The lady was fuming “Then why didn’t you say anything to that girl over there?” as she pointed at Maria trying to stand up from the rubble collapsed on her.
Odius shook his head “You know the difference? Miss Elisa’s barrier was set before the match and it was not controlled by anyone during the match. This barrier technically counted as ‘being prepared’” Odius talked to the lady while lifted the rock on top of Maria with some kind of magical power “Your, on the other hand, required direct control in the middle of the match” Odius turned and faced the lady “Now, if it was just you one-sided interfering the match, we would just purge you” an invisible pressure surrounded the stage instantly when those chilly words coming out of his mouth “However, the spell that you use required Prince Carlos’s consent. I don’t know where or when you get his consent, but it doesn’t matter to us. Having a stupid teammate who doesn’t understand the situation is one’s own fault.” As Odius retracted the invisible pressure and calmly explained to the lady and the audience with the voice amplifier.

“Who are you calling stupid!” The lady immediately shouted and tried to attack Odius. But before she was able to throw the first attack, a commotion on the stage stopped her on the track.
“Prince Carlos, are you ok? Please answer me! Someone calls a medic!” Entalia desperate cried while shaking Carlos's body.
“No serious would but I think we both know how this will turn out if you don’t help him soon.” Odius casually look at the lady in front of him.
“Tch, I will be back.” The lady immediately retreated back to Prince Carlos, took his body from Entalia, and fly away.
“Entalia, follow her!” David shouted but his companion already did it before the order was given. Looking after the figure of his companion disappearing together with the mysterious lady, David took a heavy sigh and refocus on what he can do at the time.
…
“Now then, Miss Elisa here is the reward for your hard work” Odius presented a ring and a paper scroll lie neatly inside a box “As for the fees, Prince Carlos already paid for it beforehand so you will find your reward fully intact” Odius explained slowly as he observed the girl before him. Aside from being a little dirty from being covered in smoke and dirt, there was no sign of damage deal to her body or her attire; However, on her body near the area of where Carlos’s last attack hit, there was now a little dim glow that disappeared slowly as time pass. Satisfied with what he just discovered, Odius retreated back a few steps and use the voice amplifier again “The match between Carlos, the 27th Prince of the Orgon Kingdom, and Elisa, Daughter of Duke from the house of Cobalk has been concluded. All betting tickets can now be exchanged at the Six Squares. Please leave the area in an orderly manner. Thank you for coming. Have a nice day.”

The Oresteia (Modernized)
All three of the great Greek Tragedians have written plays about the bloody chain of murder and revenge within the royal family of Argos. Yet theirs is in fact not a story of tragedy, but rather one of redemption. As they move from darkness to light, from rage to self-governance, from primitive ritual to civilized institution, their spirit of struggle and regeneration becomes an everlasting song of celebration to be heard throughout the ages. Forming a discourse set against the emergence of Athenian democracy out of a period of chaos and destruction, the Orestian plays are compelling stories of the tensions between our obligations to our families and the laws that bind us together as a society. In the beginning, we witness how a king’s decision to sacrifice his daughter and turn the tide of war inflicts lasting damage on his family, culminating in a terrible act of retribution. In the aftermath of regicide, we behold how a son must set out to avenge his father’s death by committing a most egregious sin. In the end, the sinner is tormented by supernatural powers that can never be appeased, but ultimately finds redemption and ends the curse on his house once and for all. Woven through all of this is the story of a friendship so close that it elevates itself to brotherhood - Where the blood of the covenant is shown to be indeed thicker than the water of the womb. In this very brief twelve-chapter modern rendition of the Orestian plays, I have chosen to place my focus mainly on the lives of the characters Orestes and his best friend Pylades. The chapters, each around 2000-2500 words, are split up evenly between them in first-person narrative. I hope that you will come to enjoy reading this heartwarming story, but more importantly, that you see how the conflicts portrayed in the story, whether human or institutional, are still much very relevant to our societies today. Note on Sources: The details of this story is very loosely based on The Oresteia by Aeschylus. And I mean very loosely. Other sources that I referenced for detail and inspiration are Mythology by Edith Hamilton, Electra by Sophocles, and Iphigenia in Tauris by Euripides. You may also find that I have quoted some of these works, and others (such as Shelley's Ozymondaeus), without citations (average of 1-2 such quotes per chapter). I did this because I do not have the ability to describe certain scenes nearly as well as some of those writers. If you read a particularly beautiful piece of prose here, chances are it's probably stolen lol. Also, I wrote this during the summer between my high school senior year and my college freshmen year. It was the summer of 2020, and being quarantined apparently gets my creative side out lol.
