《Limitless》Chapter 8 - Outside?

Wess was sitting in his cave allowing the cool water to splash onto his back. His back was now a charred black, with several strokes of white. His dark blue hair was so long that it was touching the floor and his face had matured.
"AHHHHHHHHHH!" The cycle had once again begun and so the pressure increased. The hot and cold water didn't hurt any more, but the pressure would continue increasing and caused more pain. Every time the pain increased Wess's threshold towards pain would also increase, however this didn't reduce the agony caused by the water.
"Wow. You're a little slow, aren't you? Every other kid has finished their spell, and the last one to finish, finished 5 months ago. Even when I was a kid, I would have done this around 4 months ago."
"Mmmm." Wess mumbled in reply to that. He knew that his master was trying to make him lose focus.
"Good! You remembered to keep your focus. I'm leaving for a few days. I will leave a protective seal around this area so that no one will come to bother or harm you. If you complete the spell in this time then make sure not to leave this place. You have exhausted your body and if you leave then you’re practically dead." With this Erez left.
"Damn, I can't even talk. I haven't even eaten any food for months, and I've been under this water since the beginning of training. My mage essence can't regenerate quick enough to practise the spell fully. Fuck! I wonder how different it would be if I didn't have to feed myself with mage essence, or I didn't have to protect myself from the water using mage essence." Wess was complaining on the inside while gritting his teeth, but he knew that he had benefited a great deal from this training.

"Let me try a different approach to this." Wess started pushing against the floor. His body was halfway towards standing up, when the water's pressure increased by 10 times. This sudden pressure pushed Wess to floor and he landed with his back touching the slick floor.
Wess then tried many things, but to no avail. All his plans were disrupted by the violent water. The water's pressure would increase whenever he moved.
"How do I get out of this?" Wess had tried all the plans he could come up with. He also didn't have much time until Erez came back, then he'd have to stop because Erez wouldn't allow him to change positions. This caused despair to creep up into his mind. It didn't matter if he came out as the strongest of all the genius's in this skill, after all they would be learning about other skills in that time. This would set back Wess, and Erez would surely give him another task like this.
"Must get out. Must finish this task before Erez comes back!" Wess's eyes shone with stubbornness. This stubbornness triggered something. It triggered his core.
"Waaaaaaah!" Before he knew it, Wess had appeared in something unknown. His eyes slowly opened, and what he saw caused his entire body to tremble.
This was the place he went to when he tested for his affinities. His mind went back to the human-like creatures he discovered and their unknown language. Their diabolic screeches.
"Skreeeeeeee!" A sound rang out, the same sound from when Wess previously visited. Wess's hand instinctively went towards his hair, where there was a transmission device. This would allow him to talk to his teacher from any distance.
"MASTER! MASTER!" Wess screamed into the device, but nothing happened. There was only a slight buzzing sound. Wess's eyes had tears flowing from them.

While Wess panicked the creatures came towards him, encircling him. They slowly moved towards in him an orderly fashion, and left no openings for Wess to escape. As they came closer Wess noticed that these creatures were actually human. They had a human's body figure, and their visible body parts seemed human. However Wess couldn't be too sure as there were cloaks covering their body.
These 'humans' were now only around a meter away from Wess, and the one facing Wess had her hand open as if to cover Wess's face. Wess had already believed that this was his death, and closed his eyes.
"Maybe death won't be so bad. There might actually be a heaven." However when the human that was facing Wess touched him, nothing happened. There was no pain. No feeling.
Wess opened his eyes and found, to his pleasure, that he was still alive and under the waterfall. The water was crashing onto his body and he was not using mage essence to protect himself, but he didn't notice. He was alive!
"Why am I still alive? Also why is my body so revitalised?" Wess wondered what happened and why he was alive. There had to be a reason for this.
Wess tried standing up, only to be pushed back down by the water. His butt crashed onto the ground, breaking several rocks. He had completely forgotten about the water and so put up no resistance to it, making his crash a lot more painful than normal.
"Oh yeah, there's this god damn water." Wess scowled and then almost immediately tried out his mage essence. It formed into something like a smoke, and protected Wess's body from the water like an umbrella. The water completely dissipated within this smoke, no trace was left behind. "This is weird. Didn't master say that the water will change into something else and come down? But then why did my smoke leave no trace?"
Wess wanted answers to his question and thought that his talent was horrible, which caused his mind to become frantic. Wess's body trembled violently, and there was a rumble coming from within him. Looking down on his body, Wess saw smoke. Just smoke.
"What the fuck!? Where is my body?" Wess's face had a puzzled expression until his body started to have its own thoughts, then his face turned to immense fear. The smokescreen expanded rapidly and Wess started warping at random positions. This teleportation led him outside of the cave and into the forest that surrounded the waterfall. He was unconscious and didn't notice that something was coming towards him.

Small Chests Are Fine Too
It is an undeniable fact that good things come in small packages. More often than not, it is necessary to trim the fat in order to bring what really matters to the forefront. Having extra bulk may seem like a good idea, but in reality it is merely a crutch that will one day become a hindrance, as it is no substitute for personality nor ability. Indeed, often times it is the small things in life that brighten up our daily lives and constantly remind us exactly why we do the things we do. However, it is important to keep an open mind, for while bigger is not always better, there are also times when it is. This holds especially true when it comes to hopes and dreams, which have been known to require a suitably large container from time to time. And while dreaming big could potentially lead to massive dissapointment, one will never truly reach fulfilment if they think too small. A truth that one small woman with meager aspirations is about to find out. DISCLAIMER: This is a spin-off/side story of my main series, Everybody Loves Large Chests, which is also mandatory reading to understand this one. It runs parallel to the main plot, branching off from the chapter titled Upheaval 2, so there will be spoilers for anyone who hasn't reached that point.
