Chapter 19: Mourning the dead and farewells

“Are you…...okay?” asked Demon to an unconscious Marytus with his facial expression filled with worry. “I lost so many people…….so many people died because of me……..I already lost Roshturn…….I don’t want to lose you too…..I might really go insane….”

Demon then lied down next to Marytus, with tears falling down his cheek.

“I finished healing you, but the magic I was using before (Insanity break) could leave side effects……..You need to survive Marytus…….I don’t know what I will do without you” thought Demon.

While Marytus remained in her sleep-like unconsciousness, Demon remained by her side, waiting for Marytus to overcome the possible side effects of his magic, waiting for Marytus to come back strong and healthy…….

While waiting, Demon’s thoughts are out of place, bringing him back to the bear and the small glance of Roshturn he saw before she……Demon then entered his own private monologue…

“This was all my fault…..I shouldn’t have gotten close to anyone……I shouldn’t and yet….I couldn’t resist……this is my curse…..my pain to bear alone……I caused this……I could have handle the bear myself…..if I was a couple of seconds faster…..I could have….saved…..” thought Demon as an image of Roshturn and her beautiful smile appeared in his mind. “I could have saved you……I have failed……I always failed when it’s the important things”

“It’s because of you she died” said a dark thought in Demon’s mind.

“Yes, it was because of me….” Said Demon in his mind.

“That’s right……you always end up causing pain no matter where you go…….every time you get close to people……they always break……”

“You are right…..they always break….”

“You broke them……”

“I broke them”

“You broke all of them…….even your parents left you…..at least they did something good…..or you would have broken them too”

“Even my parents left me……I would have ended up breaking them as well”

“Maybe you should disappear and never show up again”

“Maybe I should disappear, maybe I should go away”

“Maybe you should never use your voice to talk to people ever again”

“Maybe I shouldn’t ever talk”

“Maybe you are cursed after all…..can’t be coincidence, now can it?”

“I am cursed, have always been cursed, haven’t I?”

“Yes, that’s right…..you are cursed, cursed since birth….”

“That’s right since birth….”

“You should just go and die”

“Maybe I should just go and d----“

“Demon” said Marytus weakly as if she had no strength, as if she barely could even use her voice or even turned around. “Are you there?”

“Yes” said Demon really fast as if he has been waiting for this day all his life. “I am right here Marytus, I am here for you, and I am sorry about before”

“It’s okay”

“No, it’s not”

“No, really, it’s okay”

“It’s not okay. You could have died because of me”

“I know”

“I could have done terrible things to you”

“I know”

“Then why are you saying it’s okay?”

“Because it’s you”

“???”

“You are the person I love, so, it’s okay. If I die by the person I love, then it’s fine. As long as my love can reach the person that I love, I know he won’t hurt me no matter what, that’s why I knew you wouldn’t hurt me. You care about me just like Roshturn”

“But I could have……I was really close to killing anyone and everyone….”

“But you wouldn’t kill me……it doesn’t matter how far you go to hide your true self when you get hurt or watches someone you care about die in front of your eyes…….I will always bring you back to reality no matter how hard reality can get for you”

“Why? Why would you do that? Why do you care about me so much?”

“Because you are my sweet naughty little Demon” said Marytus with a weak smile. “And you are strong enough to survive through any harsh reality, no matter how gruesome……you are strong, Demon, strong enough to defeat a giant demonic bear….”

“I am not strong……I only pretend that I am”

“No. you are strong” said Marytus really seriously and firmly. “really strong”

“You are going to stay alive right?” asked Demon with worries and pain in his voice. And suddenly tears came flooding back. “You are not going to leave me as well?”

“No. Of course not” said Marytus with a weak smile.

“You are going to live through this, right?”

“Yes……let me just take a small nap….and sleep for a bit….”

“They are too powerful!!” yelled one of the demons that are casting spells at the giant bears. “Too powerful, there is nothing we can do”

“Those bears…..just what was the tournament’s admins thinking” said another demon while dodging the bears paws trying to grab him. “There’s no way any of us can beat them, much less get away unscathed”

“We have t—“ before a cheetah-headed demon could say another word, one of the paws of one of the bears came out of nowhere and crushed him down as if he was a bug.

This demon was dead before he even knew what hit him. He was nothing but a pile of blood, bones, and flesh that were unrecognizable any longer due to the extent of the squashed.

“We can’t sto—“ a demon with white wings was about to say before one of the bear’s paws hit him and sent him crashing on a wall at super-fast speed. He was also dead at the moment of impact with the wall.

“ROAR!!!!” yelled one of the bears.

“ROAR!!!” yelled the other.

Together, those bears were undefeatable. They were a force that normal level entities could only let themselves get squashed and crushed.

Normal level entities could only run and hide in front of such power, but it doesn’t even matter. One can run and hide. One can turn invisible, and fly. But no one truly escape from a giant bear. They hear all and see all.

They are an existence that very few could surpass. Only the giant lizards and giant sharks are stronger than them and only them do they consider a threat, or to individuals on the Demon Emperor level’s power, or the truly powerful ones in the Royal guards like Kiarria or Zonisk…..But even then, the bears were afraid of nothing.

They surpasses all and as if to prove their might, they shall roar once more in unison.

“ROAR!!!!” yelled both bears as they continue their endless one-sided execution on their preys……no….on their bugs.

“You need to go and help them, you know” said Marytus.

“You are the one I need to be with right now….”

“Yes and No”

“What?”

“Yes, you need to stay with me, but you also need to go as well”

“Then what do you suggest?”

“Give me a kiss as so I can return it back to you when you return….” Said Marytus weakly as she is unable to move yet. “That way a part of you will be with me”

“I see……” said Demon. “But isn’t a part of me already inside you, though?”

“What? DON’T JOKE ABOUT STUFF LIKE THAT?” yelled Marytus with her weak voice as she abruptly comes to a stop as she starts to cough weakly.

“Are you really going to be okay?” asked Demon. “Should I heal you again?”

“No, I’ll be fine……don’t worry about me…..I still can’t move but soon I’ll be fine”

“……….” (Demon)

“No, seriously…..stop giving me that I-don’t-trust-a-single-word-you-are-saying-look……I’ll be fine, Demon, just go”

“Fine then, since you are able to talk for that long, guess I’ll go then”

“You really are kind…”

“Yeah, yeah, that’s what people always say about me….” Said Demon as he stands up and is moving away from Marytus.

“Wait…..your kiss”

“When I return I’ll give you a kiss……and everything else that comes with it….” Said Demon with a perverted facial expression.

“Oh, please…….as if I’ll let you” said Marytus with a strong smile (not a weak one like before).

Demon then teleported away.

Marytus was left alone, still lying down in the position Demon put her. Lying on her back, unable to move due to the intense fear and shocked and maybe a little of everything.

The last thing she remembers was Demon turning around, and then everything went black.

She doesn’t know what fully happened, but she does understand that Demon’s heart had been broken before. That it was broken, piece by piece and dismantle.

Marytus doesn’t know how, she doesn’t know why……but she knows that Demon isn’t ready to tell her about it……but she understands just one tiny small part of the pain Demon is going through.

“Just how many people have had to die for Demon to end up like that?” thought Marytus sadly.

Just as fast as that sad thought came in, it went away.

“I will not let that pain continue with Demon this way. I will heal his wounds and bring him back to normal. If the pieces of his heart are missing, then I’ll find the shattered pieces and bring them back in place.” Thought Marytus. “I will do my utmost to heal Demon-sama’s heart. He was finally having a good time, then he had to witness something like this…..I must help him escape insanity”

“How should I sta---“started Marytus in her thoughts when suddenly she started coughing a lot.

Her coughs continue for quite some times, and some blood came out from her mouth.

“Am I internally injured? When did it happened?........I must do my best to stay alive, as long as I remained here I’ll be fine………Demon told me he healed me before? Did it not worked? What’s going on?” thought Marytus.

Marytus continue to cough and cough and blood comes spurting out.

“I should try to go outside to get help……” thought Marytus. “But I should wait for Demon…….I still can’t move, if I try to force myself, I might do more damage to my body”

As Marytus is in deep thought over what happened……and what she should do….a dark figure approaches to her direction. Someone or something is approaching her in her paralyzed state…..

Just who or what could it be??? Is it an enemy?? Is it an even more grotesque monster than the giant demonic bears?? Just how many creatures did you bring down here, Demon Emperor???!!!
