《Journey》Chapter 3

About an hour passed since I left the cave
Not only do I move around slowly due to being exhausted, but the cold is also getting to me
In the beginning I could still somehow keep my hunger in check, probably because I just have woken up then
But now it gets more excruciating by the second
My stomach is growling, my heart beating irregularly and I can´t focus my thoughts at all
The only reason it didn´t drive me insane yet is because I´ve been drinking water from strange bucket shaped plants
I've never seen them in my life before
They look a little like this one carnivorous plant, but instead of trapping insects they´re filled to the brim with water
At first I was a little skeptical, cause, you know, it looked really suspicious
But [Appraisal] confirmed it as drinkable water
Unexpectedly, really tasty and sweet water. Almost like lemonade
And even if only for a short time, drinking slightly helps to still my hunger
Nonetheless my stomach is beginning to protest
It wants to eat, not drink
But everything I have appraised so far was either inedible or in some cases even poisonous
I also never heard of these types of plants and trees before…
What the hell is an [Aurea Cinerea] or a [Veratrum Canadensis]?
I don´t think I will be able to stop myself from eating random leaves if I don´t find anything soon.
But hunger is not my only problem
If I lose sight of the cave and don´t find back to it…
A few hours in this cold are probably enough to knock me out
Though finding back to the cave is a much easier issue to resolve
I picked up the sharpest looking stone on the ground and mark every second tree I pass by

*Grumble* is what my stomach thinks of that
God damn it
Why can´t I just find something to eat?
"I'm begging you give me something" I weep weakly.
After another 5 minutes of walking around aimlessly I finally find something
Something that fills me with hope
I can feel saliva gathering in and dripping out of my mouth
There is an about 20 meters high tree in front of me
And there are fruits hanging on this tree
Delicious looking, ripe, yellow fruits
Just hanging around there on this tree
Waiting to be harvested
Fruits! Food! FOOOOD!
Without realizing I use appraisal
“[Groosha] – fruit. Rarity: Rare. Explanation: A delicious fruit produced by the [Groosha tree]. The fruits are ready to harvest at the end of July and by then contain a large amount of nutrients and vitamins. Not only do they support the natural recovery of ones body but they also have the effect of refilling mana. The fruit can be eaten raw or cooked. Cooking it with other ingredients may produce beneficial effects.”
Immediately I run to the tree as fast as I can
From the ground I pick up the most non-rotten looking fruits I can find and stuff them greedily in my mouth
Delicious
They are similar to pears but a hundred times tastier
Tears begin shedding from my eyes and I again cry without stopping to eat.
Although this time these are tears of joy
My seizure continues on for about 10 minutes until only decayed fruits are lying on the ground
But I´m still hungry
I look up on the tree and see a ton of fruits still hanging on it´s branches
But I can´t reach them
And I don't see a way of climbing up there, no supporting branches at all at it´s trunk

I grab the stone I used for marking trees, aim at one of the ripest looking fruits from the lower branches and throw with all my might
Unfortunately, I miss by a landmine
Doesn´t matter, I´ll try again and again until it hits
With the next throw I hit the fruit
It elegantly falls down and lands perfectly in my hands… not
It remains hanging there as if nothing happened
“Oh come on!” I cry out
I grab the stone again and continue throwing
By the third time I hit the fruit and at about my twentieth throw it finally falls down
Luckily I´m able to catch it so it doesn´t hit the ground
By now my hunger also somewhat subsided and I´m feeling much better
Probably the fruits on the ground were enough to fill me up but my body needed a bit of time to realize that
It´s still cold though
Not as cold as it was before, probably because I moved my body and ate my fill, but still too cold for me to wander around naked
I probably should return to the cave for now.
Now that I think about it, the groosha fruits were lying on the ground the whole time and I didn´t even think about washing them or
anything of that sort
Hunger is scary
I approach a plant with “drinkable water” inside of it and wash the fruit in my hands
And while following the marked trees and returning to the cave, I eat the most delicious fruit so far.
