《New Escape》New Escape Chapter Thirty Nine

After destroying countless nature spirits and trees our path for escape is relatively clear. However the nature spirits behind us were not giving up. It seems however that the druid saint broke the weird spell built around the forest, so we direct the shadowbirds to fly us out of the forest.
While we begin gaining height the nature spirits stop following us. It seems that they cannot leave the boundaries of the forest, but they are still able to launch energy balls which take quite a bit of skill from the shadowbirds to dodge.
The shadowbirds bring us out of that evil forest and we all catch our breath.
After such a risky battle we narrowly survived. A few of the shadowbirds were lightly wounded when trying to fly away, but those wounds should be easily restored once we return to the tower.
"That was way too dangerous, if it had just been the two of us we would have certainly died." I heave a sigh recalling the events that just occurred.
"Where did all of those spirits come from? Also before the attack you were acting very strangely." Maddy gives me an odd look.
"Ah before the attack all of you got suspended in time, there was this weird old man. To be honest I am not too sure what happened either." I get a bit flustered trying to figure out how to explain what occurred.
"Whatever, it's fine. Anyways we should return to the tower before anything weird happens." Maddy still seems slightly frustrated that we didn't find anything valuable, but remains slightly relieved we survived.
"No. Let's keep playing around here." I have no current interest in returning to safety. That druid was very powerful, his appearance got my blood boiling. I'd much rather remain outside adventuring.

"Hm. Alright." Maddy seemed to be fine with it, a longer adventure is definitely better. "That forest was a bit too difficult for us though, we should try to find somewhere easier."
"That's fine, I just can't stand going back without having done anything."
The twelve of us take a brief break before we head off into a different direction. We don't know even what continent we are on let alone have a map to know where to go.
The barren desert seems endless as we continue to travel. Our movement speed is quite slow while walking without maps, and strange air currents prevent the shadowbirds from flying. We are incredibly under leveled for this area, but we continue travelling. After killing such a large amount of spirits I had hoped to have gained quite a bit of experience points, but I unfortunately did not gain any. I assume this is due to the spirit's main bodies not being destroyed.
After four hours of on and off walking we decide to take a break and continue later. Rather than leaving the shadowbirds sitting ducks in the desert we sent them back to the tower, according to Erz they can come back here to us if they have been here before.
We continue our journey on a weekend so we can play for the longest possible time. When we log in it's about sunrise in the desert and Maddy returns to the tower to bring the shadowbirds here.
We chat while progressing further down the direction we initially chose after leaving the forest.
After an hour of continuous walking the climate changes. The sandy earth is completely covered by snow.
"Wh- what the hell is going on?" I begin to stammer as this strange sight appears in front of me. The stark contrast between the burning desert and the freezing tundra. The change between weather isn't subtle at all, if one was to look they would see a perfectly straight line splitting the two environments.

"Ooo this is cool!" Maddy seems rather entertained by the strange switch in environment. The shadowbirds who were previously in their human form switch into their bird forms to better insulate themselves against the weather.
Through our travels in this area our vision has been incredibly poor. In the desert sandstorms and head blocked our vision, but now a blizzard completely blocks our vision. While the wind and snow is incredibly cold the sun still shines slightly through the clouds. With my wind manipulation I create a small field around Maddy and I to block the cold winds and snow. The drain on my mana is quite low due to the mana regeneration caused by my robe. Whenever my mana gets too low I meditate for a bit while the others rest. After an unknown amount of walking through the blizzard we near a mountain.
Seeing a mountain the shadowbird's eyes light up, they spent much of their time within the mountains of that plane.
"This mountain is going to be a good adventure!" I yell out into the storm and my voice echoes for a long amount of time.
In the forest the stagnant air caused my spiritual detection to fail, but in this blizzard my spiritual essence should spread quite well.
"I will try to find an interesting cave or something if possible." I sit cross legged and begin to expel spiritual energy and meld it with the air essence. My sense spreads across a wide area as I detect how all of my spiritual essence moves about in the wind. "There!" I jult up to my feet and lead our group a bit up the mountain.
After hiking up the icy mountain for twenty minutes I stop in front of what should be the entrance to some sort of cave system.
"Why'd you stop? There's nothing here." Maddy becomes clearly confused as I stop and stand in front of an ice covered wall.
"The wind here seemed to travel slightly into a crack in this wall, I believe there is a cave behind this ice." I pull out my staff in order to increase the effectiveness of my mana, then I begin to break cracks into icy wall by manipulating the water and changing it's phase from solid to liquid. After a few moments the icy wall crumbles revealing a wide cave entrance.

The Perks of Immortality
This story will no longer be updated. After living decades and dying hundreds of times, Kegan has learned that he has finally passed some test that the cruel spirit had given him. Now, Kegan has the ability to gain “perks” that can make his life much easier. He is looking forward to finally having an easy life with the new perks he has earned. Rules to keep me honest for the perk system: Spoiler: Spoiler 1. The purpose of perks is to help the MC live longer and do new things each life. 2. The perks can be unlocked by getting hurt or killed. 3. The perks can be unlocked by putting in a lot of effort that isn’t easily duplicated in a new life. 4. Perks are generally beneficial enhancements to the MC’s body. 5. Perk costs can be lowered with more impressive achievements to unlock them. 6. Perk costs can be lowered by repeated death or injury from something the perk protects against. 7. Perk costs are increased for quality of life improvements that don’t benefit survival. I want to avoid one of the pitfalls I see for other LitRPG stories where the game elements barely relate to the story, or offer very little information. If people are skipping over and not reading the perks then I'm doing things wrong. So I promise to try and make the perks interesting, sometimes humorous, informative, and relevant to the story.Cover art by http://dertypaws.com/

Kill 10 Rats
You awake in the middle of an unfamiliar woods with nothing but a knife and a pair of pants. You have no idea where you are, how you got there, or even what your name is. Noob Slayer is an average college student, part time computer repair guy, and a full time gamer. He awakes to find himself in a world he does not understand. Follow him as he explores this new world, looks for answers, and tries to remember his name. Authors Note: This is a side-project I started after being widely stumped trying to write another book. It is my first attempt to actually post something I've written online, but don't be afraid to be brutal. Improving myself is why I wanted to write this in the first place. I know the VRMMO genera is a bit over-done but hopefully it has a few good stories left to tell. Warning: This is written in the first person. Will contain brutal fight-scenes, bad pop-culture references, a ton of MMO-tropes, and possibly some light sex if the MC doesn't screw it up too badly.
