《New Life》Chapter 151 - Cosmic Entities (Part 4)

Earth:
Nazar and Emma were sitting down and eating food.
All of a sudden, Nazar felt a rift being opened.
Before he could react, someone came out of the rift.
From the rift, their brother, Aeron the Dreamer came out.
As soon as he came out, he smiled and waved his right hand.
“Hello,” he said.
“Oh, its just you,” Nazar said in a disinterested tone.
“At least can you pretend to be happy?”
Nazar shook his head.
“Welcome, Aeron,” Emma said with a wide smile on her face.
“Oh. I see you know my name.”
“I told her.”
“Would you like to eat with us?”
He walked towards the dining table.
“Oh, I would love to have some human food.”
“Human food…? Oi, who do you think you are?”
“Well...”
“Yeah, I was just joking.”
“So, what are we having?”
Nazar gave him a blank look.
“Can you not see?”
“I can but...”
“It is called spaghetti. And the round things are called meatballs,” Emma said.
“Ah, I see.”
She then looked at Nazar.
“Be nice or I will slap you.”
“...”
Nazar waved his hand and in front of Aeron, a planet appeared. He then placed food on the plate.
Aeron took a bite out of it.
“It’s… interesting.”
“Bad interesting or good interesting?”
“Good… I think.”
Solace appeared in the room.
“I have--”
As soon as she saw the Dreamer, she turned into her offensive mode.
As soon as she did that, all parts of her body were turned into weapons. Lasers were pointed towards the Dreamer. And there was a barrier around him. But it could not be seen.
“Nazar--”
“It’s okay. He is no longer… uh… evil?”
“What?”
Nazar sighed.
A small ball of yellow energy flew towards Solace and it hit her.
As it did, she understood the whole situation. She was also caught up with everything that happened while she was gone.
“Ah, I see. Sorry.”
“It’s okay,” the Dreamer said.
“Anyway, what did you have for me, Solace?”
“I was tracking these beings known as cosmic entities… and found a few of them just outside of Earth’s orbit.”
Nazar looked alarmed.
“About that...”
Nazar looked at the Dreamer.
“I am here to talk.”
“Talk? About what?”
“One of these new cosmic entities… Well, he is too powerful. He controls all of the universe. And apparently, he is mad. I have no idea what he is planning to do but since he became a cosmic entity, he has destroyed a few galaxies.”
Nazar’s eyes widened.
“So, we need you to help us.”
“About that… I am not as powerful as I used to be.”
The Dreamer looked surprised.
“But I will help you anyway.”
“I will help too,” Solace said.
“Okay then.”
“So, when do we go after him?”
The Dreamer thought about his answer.
“Now would be good.”
“Okay. I will need to finish eating and then we can go.”
“Got it.”
“Are you sure? Are you going to be okay?” Emma asked.
“...”
Nazar thought about it.
“I don’t know… But it doesn’t matter.”
Nazar took a sip of some water.

“Just be careful. You are no longer invincible.”
“Okay.”
After a few minutes, they finished eating dinner.
Nazar moved his hand and all the dishes were clean.
“I will meet you in a few minutes.”
The Dreamer nodded and vanished into thin air.
Emma was kind of confused.
Nazar gave her a small device.
“What is this?”
“It’s a communications device. If anything happens… or if you need anything, then use this and contact me.”
“...”
“Just tap it and I will receive the transmission. Got it?”
Emma nodded.
“Thanks.”
Nazar was confused as to why she said that.
“You know, for being here for the last few days.”
“...”
“You were here for days and looked after me. Thanks.”
“No problem… But why are you saying that now?”
“Oh, I thought you might die, so I want to make sure my words reach you.”
Nazar laughed.
“Don’t worry. I won’t die.”
“No, I really mean it. And the last part was a joke.”
“I know I get. Bye.”
“Bye.”
Nazar vanished into thin air.
“Don’t worry, I will keep him safe. Not that he needs it but I will look after him,” Solace said.
“Thanks.”
Solace also vanished into thin air.
Nazar, Solace and the Dreamer were now outside Earth’s orbit.
“Hello, Nazar,” Orosus said with a smile on her face.
Nazar was not surprised that she knew his name.
“Hello.”
“I am Yam,” the white-bearded elf said.
“We need your help. Arosus has gone mad with power.”
Nazar was a little confused. So, they explained what was happening.
“And you think I will be of any help?”
“Well, yes.”
“I am not as powerful as I used to be. Apparently, I became weaker since you guys came into existence. So, I am sharing some of my power with you guys.”
“I see...”
Yam looked very disappointed.
“Okay, so what about Norse God?”
“Oh, he will definitely come.”
Nazar vanished into thin air.
The cosmic entities were confused.
Solace sighed.
She knew what he will do.
After a few seconds, he appeared out of thin air with Eddie.
“Wh-what are-- Woah, what are these guys?”
The cosmic entities sighed and explained everything again.
“And you think I will be of any help?”
“Yes, of course. You have the powers of mythical Gods from the Norse Mythology, right?” Yam said.
Eddie was confused as to how he knew that.
“Kind of...”
“Well, that is good enough.”
“I guess we should leave, Yam.”
“Yes, milady.”
They were about to teleport but someone appeared before them.
Nazar recognised his energy.
“You are...”
“Omegan.”
Omegan was in his energy form. He did not take a human form.
“I will help you.”
Nazar was surprised to hear that.
“And we will need those cosmic entities. All of them.”
“Oh, Omegan, the God among Gods. The leader of the Gods of the 3rd dimensional plane of existence.”
Yam was telling that out loud so other will get caught with the situation.
“You are as strong as a middle-class angel, right?”
Omegan nodded.
“So, with you on board, we should be able to--”
“No.”
Everyone looked at him.

“We won’t be enough. With all of the Gods by side… we will still not be enough.”
“Wait a minute.”
Omegan looked at Nazar.
“Just how powerful is this…uh...”
“Arosus,” Orosus said.
“Arosus. Yes, Arosus. Just how powerful is he?”
“He controls all of the physical universe. And he has the potential to destroy all of this universe.”
“Then why hasn’t he done it yet?”
“I don’t know. Maybe he doesn’t want to. Or maybe he just wants to destroy it a little by little.”
“I see...”
“But he is not in the right mind. Just like all other cosmic entities, he is confused. He doesn’t know what he is doing. He is not in the right mind. And he is emotionally unstable.”
“And you think we will be able to stop him? How?”
“We need the emotions-based cosmic entity. Their name is Emat.”
“Okay, so why do you need us for?” Eddie asked.
“You have a connection to us, Gods.”
Eddie was surprised.
“You might have based your powers on mythical gods, but you still have the powers of gods. And I can help you temporarily increase your powers. However, it won’t be much.”
“Oh...”
“And me?” Nazar asked.
“You have a connection to all of the cosmic entities. And you need to get rid of that abnormal energy. You can get rid of it once you meet Arosus. You don’t need to gather others. Arosus would do.”
“I see-- Wait, how do y--”
Nazar trailed off.
“Ah. You are a God.”
“And I will help you with whatever you need, Nazar.”
“Thanks, Solace.”
“And we can use Reaper and Meltdown. Meltdown’s control over all forms of energies is very strong and useful. He will be very helpful to you. As for Reaper, he can manipulate the quantum realm. It is a useful skill that we need. We can use his connection to the quantum realm and trap that abnormal energy there.”
“I see.”
“Of course, there are other ways but this is easier.”
Nazar waved his hand and both Reaper and Meltdown appeared next to them.
Nazar inserted the information they needed to know.
“Oh.”
“Got it,” Reaper said.
“So, where is he?”
“At the other side of the universe. There are a lot of people - powerful people - trying to hold him off but it is useless. If we don’t want more people to die, we need to go after him now.”
“Okay… But I did not expect you to care about others besides yourself.”
Omegan snorted.
“I am a God, remember? I need to keep my subjects alive. I am a God and I will keep them safe.”
They all vanished into thin air.
They made a few stops and gathered all the cosmic entities.
After a few minutes, they had reached where Arosus was supposed to be.
As soon as they reached that place, they saw Arosus destroyed a planet.
As soon as Nazar saw that, he paused time.
He didn’t let the planet be destroyed.
Once he stopped time, he went into his energy form.
He teleported to the planet and teleported it somewhere else.
As the planet had massive cracks in it, he used his absolute restoration and restored the planet completely.
He appeared next to the others.
“Oh?” Orosus said.
She looked impressed.
She looked to Arosus and found him frozen.
No, he was not frozen because of time manipulation, he was frozen because he was confused.
Nazar tried again but couldn’t freeze him in time.
Nazar then stared at Arosus.
Arosus had a human-like silhouette but instead of having any body parts, he is made of small things that resemble planets and galaxies.
“Interesting.”
“Let’s get to work,” Omegan said.
He waved his hands and all of the Gods appeared behind him.
There were thousands upon thousands of them.
“There are a lot of strong people, but I have not been able to convince any of them. So, just let them be.”
“So, what’s the plan?” Eddie asked.
“Us, the cosmic entities and the Gods will attack him. We will use this to buy time. And Nazar will find that abnormal energy with Meltdown’s. Reaper will use his connection to the quantum realm and trap it there.”
They all nodded.
All the cosmic entities and the Gods marched towards the being who can destroy the whole universe.
“Let’s get to work,” Solace said.
“I am kind of confused as to what I should do...” Meltdown said.
“Me too...” Nazar said.
“Look,” Solace said out loud. “Nazar and Meltdown’s job is to find that abnormal energy. And Reaper’s job is to trap that energy in a place called quantum real.”
“I know how to do that,” Reaper said.
Nazar looked unsure.
Meltdown was also unsure but no one could see his expressions.
Nazar took a deep breath.
He started to fly.
“Let’s do this, Meltdown.”
Meltdown followed him.
Nazar turned around why flying.
He was flying towards Arosus backwards.
“What’s your name? Calling you by ‘Meltdown’ is--”
“Hard and less personal?”
“Kind of?” Nazar said as he tilted his head a little.
Meltdown thought about it a little.
“If I remember correctly, I used to be called. Ikel.”
“Ikel, huh?”
Nazar smiled.
“Nice name.”
“Thanks?”
“Also, how old are you?”
Meltdown thought about it for a little while.
“I don’t know… maybe around 200 years on Earth time. But on my planet around 23.”
“Interesting.”
Nazar turned around and flew towards Arosus at full speed.
While they were flying, Solace appeared next to Nazar.
“So, do you know what you are supposed to do?”
“We will figure it out as we go.”
“This is going to be bad,” Meltdown said. “We have no idea what we are doing.”
“We need to have more faith in ourselves,” Solace said.
“I agree, we need to figure this out while the others take care of Arosus.”
“With your calculating abilities, Ikel’s energy abilities, we can do this. I might be an AI but I have access to a lot of your powers too. So, I can help you too.”
“Okay.”
“Let’s do this. For the greater good.”
Both Nazar and Meltdown gave her a blank look.
“Fine,” Solace said as she rolled her eyes. “Let’s do this.”
“Yeah.”
They increased their speed towards Arosus.
They flew towards a certain failure.

Lone: The Wanderer [Dropped Version (includes original draft of the rewrite's first volume)]
Nine-to-five. The daily grind. Life. Painful years of school. Working as a slave for some undeserving corporate big-wig. The monotonous life of unemployment. We all experience this in one way or another, and we can all conclude one thing: it's dull. Such a fact rings true even for the fabled Lone Immortus, a powerful nine-tailed Golden Foxkin. However, what would you do if your monotony was suddenly ground to a halt and you were thrown out of your comfort zone along with a young girl forgotten by time? Perhaps you might have done things differently, been more organised, immediately died, gained control of the world in a matter of days, but this is Lone's tale, not yours. Watching two insecure people struggle to survive and find their place in an unfamiliar land just might be enjoyable to witness. Who knows? One thing's for certain: it won't be an easy path for them to tread, and what could possibly be more entertaining than watching people endure hardships and grow? I know of at least eight gods that would answer with, 'Absolutely nothing.' I wonder, after seeing this journey from start to finish, how would you answer? [Goal of 2 chapters per week, the only exceptions being announced breaks or emergencies] A/N: This story is in the middle of a rewrite, so please forgive any noticeable plot holes and wonky chapter numbers. I am working on it every day, so understanding would be greatly appreciated. The new cover art is a courtesy of the very kind and talented ssddx. This novel is a participant in The Writer's Pledge

Off the Vat

But this time, rather than the Cloning vats, the reek of things rotting came from the Mess Hall. *** "Off the Vat" is a complete, very short novel (around 20,000 words across 7 chapters), inspired by the recloning mechanic that Sci Fi MMOs like EVE Online or The Repopulation use to explain why players respawn.
