《Programming in Another World》Chapter 3 - The Programmer Encounters His First Monster

Statuses are known throughout the world as a way to display one's strength and condition. In the next tab, you'll find your exact status, which will be updated in real-time. Typically, this is impossible since you would need a skill called [Aprasial], which allows someone to appraise objects or people. The church is the most common way to get your status.
Anyway, I'll explain each of the items that are in status. The top of someone's status is all of the seven parameters that the person has. It includes a person's health, mana, physical strength, endurance, speed, agility, and protection.
Health is your current life essence in numerical form. Once the value hits zero, you are considered dead. Mana is your magic power source. When you hit zero mana, you will faint. I have replaced mana with your MP, but others will see it has mana if they appraise you. You can only see your MP in the editor along with your WP.
Physical strength is how strong you are, like picking up heavy objects or damaging objects with your fists. Endurance is how long you can withstand in a fight or by running. In other words, you can reference it with your stamina.
Speed is how fast you physically can run. Agility is how quick your reflexes are. Having high agility can improve how well you can swim, but you'll need a high-speed stat if you want to swim fast. Just think Agility is your form while Speed is your speed, but you'll need an excellent form to improve your speed...
Protection is a stat that refers to your physical condition. Having a high protection stat means that you can withstand diseases and bad status effects like poison. It doesn't have anything to do with your physical protection value, like improving your skin's toughness.
After the parameters, you can see your titles and skills. Titles are given to people as they do outstanding things. They don't do anything special, but people in the world will trust you if you have good titles. Skills, as I said before, improves a person's ability. They, like titles, are automatically given to a person based on their training. For example, if you train by cooking recipes, your cooking skill will increase...
For you, however, won't be able to use these skills. You'll get them automatically but they won't be much help to you. That was something the other Gods made clear. Anyway, it will be like your old world but the system or world knows of your skill. In other words, it's showing your real hard work...
Before the parameters have your basic information like your name and age, there's your job or class, which is basically the type of person you are, like a blacksmith or swordsman. It will also have your level. Note that your status will not increase as you level up, as it does for others. The only way to increase your stats is through your power...
After reading the tab, I move onto the next one, which includes my status.

"Ah, so I'm four. That's a bit... young."
Since I'm four, I bet I could get away with a lot of stuff. For instance, I could go into town and see if anyone would take me in. Well, If I do, I might either be brought to an orphanage or be sold as a slave. I rather not take any of those changes...
Alright, one more tab, and then I should be prepared to enter the town or say the God says. Let's see...
"Ooh! This one seems quite important..."
The tab reads out 'About this World'.
You might not need to know every single detail about this world, so I'll give you a rundown version of it. Here in Odious, there are three major kingdoms with five smaller kingdoms spread about. The first kingdom is called Lowda, and it's a kingdom of humans. They hate other races and even hate me, their creator!
They are pretty strong but also very easily manipulated. The next kingdom is called Phanta, and it's a kingdom of elves. Most of the elves in this world live in this kingdom. They are rarely sighted outside the kingdom and never let anyone enter it unless otherwise directed by their king.
The last major kingdom is called Pondous, which is a kingdom of beast-kin. Unlike the other two kingdoms, they don't mind other races and are allied with many minor kingdoms. That said, they dislike the human major kingdom, so most of the civilians dislike humans, but you'll find some of them living with them...
You are in a minor kingdom called Yunourous. It's the largest minor kingdom and is a mixed-race kingdom. About half of the populous is made up of humans, while forty percent is made up of beast-kin. The rest is of the other races.
Also, you may have noticed, but you are right beside their capital. The minority kingdoms don't have a lot of lands except for yours. Sadly, they have much land because they live alone on the demon continent, where monsters and demons are scattered about. In total, they have 3 cities (including the capital) and 7 towns.
I won't explain the other kingdoms, but I will explain something about all of the races. The most populous race are the humans, making about 40% of the world's population. Next is the beast-kin, which makes up 30% of the world's population. Twenty percent of the world's population is made up of elves, leaving the other races at ten percent.
The other races include Dwarfs, Water-kin, Space-kin, and Dragon-kin. These races make up the minority and live in secluded kingdoms, but they can all be found somewhere in Yunourous. The rares of the races are the Space-kin and Dragon-kin, making a total of one percent of the world's population.
That's about as much information as you may need. You can look up more in the library if you're curious. Anyway, with all of this, you should be fine if you go to the capital now. Good luck!
Hmm, things seem somewhat complicated? I was never great at history, nor cared about it all. It's the same in this world.

I mean, I understand why he shared it, but unless it involves my life, I doubt I'll need any of that. It's not like I'm planning to be a king or something. At most, I want to be a well-known and strong adventurer.
Anyway, thank you, God of Creation, for all of that! I should be ready to venture to that city with this out of the way, but first...
"Look, likes there is about a couple of hours left before the sun sets."
I smile. I don't need to be in a hurry. I have loads of time to hunt for food or to find shelter. Therefore, I'll use the rest of the day to play with my new power! Yes, I dreamed of having it, and now I do! Sadly, I don't have much WP, and my MP is only one, so there aren't many things that I can do, but I can at least experiment.
I switch tabs from Help to Editor. The window changes to that of one of those newly designed JDKs. It's a bit plain, but it has everything I need. It has a debugger if I need it, a compiler, and seems to have an autocomplete function.
The next tab on the help page had some information about my power, so I skimmed through it earlier. It seems that he made some methods preinstalled into my power that should help me. Also, he said that as my WP increases, the more methods I'll unlock.
The first and only object I have unlocked is called me, and it has some getters and setters and an adder.
me.setHealth(); me.getHealth(); me.addHealth();
The setter setHealth will set my health parameter to a value of my choosing. This method will only set the max, but it requires loads of MP. Well, I was able to increase it but just for a second. It seems that it requires an active amount of MP, meaning that I can improve my values (MP per second) as long as I have MP.
The getter getHealth allows me to call the function if I ever need it. Lastly, the method addHealth enables me to add to my current health point. For instance, if I had 5 / 10 HP, I can use this function to increase the number up to my max HP, in this case, 10. I can increase it above my maximum; however, it requires more mana than the first function. That said, it doesn't require an active amount, but it won't regen back up there.
Also, it seems there are negative values. When I used the set method, I found out that if I attempt to use a large enough number, my MP goes into the negative but instantly returns to zero when it tries to consume my MP. Whenever my MP hits below zero, I can feel my body be drained of life. It hurts quite a lot...
I imagine if I increased the number by the 100's or 1000's, I would probably blackout and lose consciousness.
I better not do that...
Alright, this should be all the testing I need. I mean, without MP, I can't do anything cool as I dreamed about.
"I guess my next plan of action is to venture into town. Alright, I'll leave immediately!"
It's only been about an hour, so the sun is still in the sky. I couldn't do any good testing since my MP and WP are so low. That said, I should find a place to stay, sleep, and the like once I get into town. Then I can spend the entire day tomorrow find a way to increase my MP.
I close the window by pressing the X in the corner and then heading off into the gate's direction that I saw earlier.
I continue to walk for minutes. After about 30 minutes, I was right back where I started when I came into this world. That said, I continued walking past where I spawned.
"Judging by the distance, it's going to take another thirty minutes at least..."
I sign as I walk. Then, as I drew closer to the gate, I noticed many things jumping or plopping onto the ground...
They are all of the different colors and look to be very squishy. There seems to be a spherical object, darker than the body's color, moving around inside each thing.
"So, my first encounter would be slimed. How nice..."
The beings all around me are slimes, known as the starting monster in most RPGs. Just like they are in games, they are oval shape, slimy, and squishy. They don't have any limbs, so they move around by jumping. Some games' variants had orbs, known as the monster core, somewhere inside a monster's body. I'm guessing that's true in this world, and I'm able to see this slime's core due to its body being translucent.
I count five total slimes. Although they are one of the weakest monsters in all of those games, I'm guessing they aren't that easy for a first-timer like myself.
"They don't seem to be aggressive..."
The give colorful slimes are bouncing up and down all around me. They seem to notice me, but they aren't attacking. I watch as they hop around, but as I do, one of them jumps on top of my head. Unlike slime companions in some novels I read, this slime sinks its body in my head, making it impossible for me to breathe.
I try to grasp the slime's body, but due to its slime, my hands keep sliding off. I shake my head wildly while trying to keep my breath-hold. Then, as I was about to fall due to lack of air, the slime jumps off my head and begins jumping with the rest of his buddies. I grasp for air afterward, refilling my lungs back with air.
"G-geez, these things are dangerous if you let your guard down..."
I say this, but I knew it was due to my lack of strength. I mean, all of my values in my status are below twenty, which I'm guessing isn't good...
"Okay, I thank you guys for letting me live, but it's my turn to attack!"
