《The Endless War》Chapter 13: Meeting

There was no way to describe how it felt to be sleeping on a soft padded mattress. It was a million times better than sleeping on the cold hard ground. Much more comfortable. It took no time at all for our hero to quickly drift off to sleep.
Tomorrow a lot of things would change for him. Everyone always talked about how becoming a Seer always changed them whether for better or for worse. Now was the time to find out who he would be for the rest of his life.
More importantly, could he keep his promise to the children? To his parents? What about himself? The whole purpose of him joining Seer was to so that he could end war forever. Eradicate it from existence and hope for peaceful times.
I really hate fighting and killing… I don’t see how anyone could like it. I’m going to make it disappear one day…
For now, all he could do right now was get the rest he needed to wake up so early. It was physically demanding, but now was not the time to complain. Now was the time for action.
7 AM approached quicker than one could anticipate. Isaac, however, was ready from the looks of things. His teeth were brushed delicately and his hair was combed neatly. He chose to wear a copy of the same exact clothes from the woods as he went on ahead to meet up with his best friend Junji.
Not without giving his parents a warm goodbye.
Isaac met Junji at the bus stop and the two of them had a simple conversation while awaiting their mode of transportation.
“Man I slept like a baby last night. I had me a nice little meal as well.” Junji sighed happily, still patting his tummy from the breakfast he consumed this morning.
“That’s good to hear. You deserve it with everything we went through back there.” Isaac still remembered what happened to them. What they had to fight and kill on that fateful day.
“So, you ready buddy? We’re finally getting all of our stuff! We’re going to be looking good. Becoming a Seer also means people will treat us differently.”
“Differently?”
“Yeah, back in the past we were rather civilians or students, but now we’ve made it. We’re officers so people are going to respect us more.”
“You’re right. We have to make sure that we let them know that they don’t have to be so formal with us.”
“Right, that, or we could use this to snag some hot dates. I could probably guilt trip a model into dating me!”
“Would you really do that?”
“No, no. But, I could!”
Thankfully, the well-crafted bus arrived. It was built to be long, silver, and efficient with sleek wheels to aid with turning. All powered by the standard Geo-sphere located where gas would normally be pumped by a regular vehicle out of this world.
The conversation was even more simple as the two found their seats. Junji seems excited about all of the privileges that he would get now that he was an official member of Seer. Among those things were free food and snacks, electronic gadgets, and clothes.
It’s good to see he was excited at least. Though how long would that last? The two finally came to their stop. Arriving at the equivalent of the White House. Xander’s building was very tall and well kept, shaped like a mansion. The lawn was neatly cut and was a vibrant green color.

He had soldiers all around the building and even on top of the building all keeping watch for anything that came its way. Keeping their leader safe was the most important thing that they could do. It was even worth more than their lives.
“Wow, is it really alright for us to be here?” Junji scratched his head, turning to look over at Isaac.
“Of course, we’re one of them now. Let’s go see if we can talk to Xander.”
“I’m way ahead of you!”
The two calmly approached the entrance and by doing so they were soon blocked by two of the guards who were very muscular. They looked well trained it was impossible to think they were human.
“What can I do for you youngins?” One of them spoke in a gruff sounding voice.
“We’re… here to see Xander.” Isaac whimpered out.
“What business do you kids have with Xander?”
“These must be the munchkins that Roy was telling us about. I believe it’s alright to let them inside.”
“Yeah, we’re here for our equipment. That’s all.” Junji added.
“Go right in, your Captain is already inside.”
“Come on, Junji, I can’t wait any longer!” Isaac smiled as he rushed ahead, pushing open the door.
Inside was a fresh minty smell and various chairs along with a receptionist who sat behind a windowed desk. Sitting in one of the chairs to the left was none other than Jace who sat with his legs crossed and his arms folded firmly against his chest. His eyes were closed, was he asleep?
Roy wasn’t here today and if he was then he wasn’t with Jace at the moment, but a certain redheaded girl was.
No way is that really Claire? How did she get here before us? The buses don’t start running until 6 AM, don’t tell me she caught the very first one.
The two went over to approach the familiar faces with a sheepish expression.
“Man, it’s way too early in the morning, how long have you guys been here?” Junji asked curiously.
Seeing that her comrades had now arrived put a smile on Claire's face, as she sat up due to their approach. “Took you guys a while. We've been here for around an hour.” She answered Junji’s question.
“A whole hour…?” Isaac asked in disbelief.
“Sounds very boring.” Junji chuckled.
Jace opened his eyes with all of the chatter starting to go around. “Good to see you guys made it. Now we just have to wait for the other five.”
It was definitely a big squad this time around. All of them was being grouped together because they all had one thing in common. They could make use of magical abilities.
It didn’t take long for another person to enter the building, matter of fact he came right behind Isaac and Junji.
“I’m here. Let’s get this over with already. I have things to do.” Noel said in a grumpy tone.
“Things like what? They can't really be as important as this, can they?” Commented Claire, whose attention was caught by Noel as he entered.
Hearing the important and this in the same sentence caused Noel to let out a haughty laugh. “Are you kidding me? Maybe this is important for you normies, but I could name ten different things way more important than this.” He laughed once more. “Whoever laughs with me gets 500 dollars. Hahaha!”

“. . .”
Hearing the awkward silence brought about by Noel’s offer only served to cause Claire to go on the verge of laughing, and for a completely different reason. “Pfft…”
The fools, of course, they’d deny laughing for now. But, human beings were all so simple. In the end, they could all be bought and he was going to make sure they knew that.
“It’s fine, I’m surprised you guys have some dignity. It’s just money is the ultimate game changer in this world. It can make a person do all kinds of things…” As Noel states this his eyes shift around from Isaac, Junji and finally stopping with Claire before he slowly licked his lips.
Seeing the creepily sensual gesture from Noel made Claire a bit uncomfortable, as she turned her head to look elsewhere to something that was not him. “Uhm… Okay.”
Jace remained silent through all this as he merely stared at Noel. This was a common way that noble act. It wasn’t surprising, but Noel being here was a huge shock. Why would he sign up to risk his life? Did he understand what that meant?
“Yo, Noel!” A deep voice shouted before entering the building. Noel turned around to see just who it was before he felt a tremendous hand clap against his stomach causing a ripple of his flesh to move about. The force was so manly that it caused Noel to release a soft moan before falling to his knees.
“Y-you brute you…” Noel whispered out.
“So everyone here beat me… I guess running all the way here was a mistake.” The man… no this was no man, this was a behemoth. The behemoth known as Yadon was glistening with sweat, his muscles very visible through his shirt.
“H-how?” Junji asked.
“How what?” Yadon’s aura of manliness and testosterone was so strong that it was overflowing and spreading through the room.
“How are you so big?”
“Oh? Interested in my training regime, Junji!? It’s about time. You've always been so scrawny but I felt like you had a much better chance at becoming fit than your friend Isaac.”
“Hey…” Isaac whispered.
“You say something, Isaac?”
“N-no.”
The door opened again, revealing a worn out Quin who seemed to have faded off to the background.
“Yadon, wow… I think you’ve…. Gotten faster!”
“All because of you. Any man can push himself beyond his limits with the right lady by his side.” Yadon smiled.
“Damn it this guy has it all…. It’s not fair.” Junji complained.
It doesn't take long before the entrance is once again opened, and into the room stepped the charcoal haired girl of the group, Grey, who says nothing as she scanned over the entirety of the group with a stoic face.
“Hey, Grey! It’s nice to see you!” Isaac greeted her as friendly as he could.
“Looks like everyone is here then.” Junji muttered.
“Aren’t we forgetting about Keianna?”
“She won’t show. I can’t honestly think why she would. She’s’ been very vocal about how she doesn’t give a shit about what happens to Terra.” Yadon added.
“She has even fewer reasons to be here then Noel over here. Dude why are you still on your knees…?” Junji raised an eyebrow.
“I-I… require assistance getting up.”
“Oh come on, it can't be that serious,” Claire stated, but being as kind as she was, she'd get up from her seat, walking over to Noel with her hand outreached.
A lot of people were surprised to see someone helping Mr. Entitlement, but apparently, Claire was just that kind of person. Even Noel himself was surprised for a second until he remembered who he was and took her hand.
“Claire, I’ll remember this. You’ve just upgraded your life.”
“Upgraded my life? What's that supposed to mean?”
“You’ll s-”
“Come on, Jace! I’m tired of waiting, I want to do missions already! Keianna isn't coming let’s just get this thing over with already!” Yadon shouted his demands.
“She’s going to be here. We’re going to wait for her.” Jace said softly while looking over at the behemoth.
“You gave us all until 9 right? I hope you know she’s never been one to pay time any mind.”
“I know her very well, normally you’d be right, but this is very different. If you undermine my authority again you’ll be suspended.”
“How can I, I’m not even an official member, yet.”
“It’ll be ok, sweetie. I’m sure if Jace says she’ll be here then she’ll be here.” Quin tried her best to comfort him.
“Quin’s right, after all, we’re all friends here,” Isaac said with some level of confidence.
“What do you think, Grey? Is Keianna gonna ditch us?” Junji asked.
“...” Having heard herself being brought into the conversation, Grey glanced over at Junji briefly, before shrugging. “I don't know, and personally, I don't care…”
Some time passed and the clock was stuck at 8:59 AM which Yadon was watching very carefully as if it was a part of his training. Soon the door opened up and inside walked none other than Keianna.
“Well look at this, the gang’s all here,” Keianna mentioned while looking around.
“Finally! Come on, Keianna. How much of a dick do you have to be to show up exactly one minute before 9!?” Yadon complained.
“I don’t know I believe I’d have to be a pretty big dick to do something like that.”
“Can we go now, Jace!?”
Jace remained silent as he walked over to the receptionist lady and asked her if they could see Xander. She nodded before pointing to the door that they would be using.
“Alright, let’s go. Just remember to be respectful of Xander.” Jace instructed before heading towards the door the lady pointed to.
