Chapter 28: The Final Plan
Benton
3 days had passed since I got Jade on board, we met everyday to map out the exact plan, using satellite images of the compound in order to find the most effective way in map out points to cut off and destroy. Every exit, every way that he could possibly escape and get out we had a plan for, it was the most thorough plan I had ever worked on in my life. “So, for the final time now that we have everything mapped out, what’s the plan?” I then cleared my head and looked at the enlarged holographic like photo on the table “We will enter through a gap in the side fence, we will have suppressed air weapons which are almost just as lethal but are almost silent, emphasis on almost, only fire your weapons outside of the 30m zone, outside of that they cant hear us. We will then place explosive charges just outside all the exits and entrances, stealth is vital here, it will be almost impossible if we get spotted, if we are, we exit the same way we came in and they will not even know were gone. We will then hit the centre of the place with explosive charges in the designated spots. I have talked to all the Demo guys and they all agree that if we place them in the way that we are no-one will survive inside. We then sneak out undetected the same way we came in through the place in the fence, get clear of the blast radius and detonate the explosives. If the off chance does happen that anyone does live and tries to flee we will have sniper and gunner teams’ positions to pick off the stragglers.” I then looked up from the plan to see Jade absolutely in awe with what we had planned, she then spoke up “I know you tagged the truck he was in but what if he isn’t there?” I then grinned “I have spent the last few months absolutely destroying his army and all of the people who side with him religiously, he has nowhere to go, this is it!”

We then waited for the mission to be a go, we planned on getting there just before 11pm. In the pitch black of darkness, but we finalized the plan in the middle of the day so we had some time to kill, Jade spent hours in the training room resharpening her skills as she had been out of combat for nearly half a year, I spent time in the armoury sorting out equipment and loadouts, smoothing out everything in order to make sure everything went to plan. As much as it is thorough human error is a thing and I had to plan for that, me and Jade would also be using the military movement combat suits or as we liked to call them at battle school the MMCS I wasn’t able to use one since chasing after the commander after Emily’s death as using them in combat that isn’t war related is a crime and due to not being officially at war were not able to use them, but both governments who were now getting along fantastically agreed to let me and her use them to beat the commander once and for all.
On the table were out loadouts both perfectly separated and kitted with equipment, we each had one air single chamber rifle for long range, one semi auto air handgun for up close, three stun grenades, a smoke grenade and two regular grenades and enough ammo to sink everyone in the compound four fold along with the explosives. “I’d say that’s not enough.” Jade stated sarcastically I chucked “We need to be sure everything goes to plan this time, I can’t just let every person who has tried to stop him die in vain!” Jade then put her hands on my shoulder “None of their deaths are on you, you made sure more didn’t die, look what you were able to do in just a few months, their deaths will never be in vain even if we don’t manage to kill him, he will have nothing left after were done tonight, even if he does live, he will just have to suffer with what he has done with no reward.” I nodded I understood what he meant but those deaths I’ve already avenged it was John and Jacks death I had to finish fulfilling. “This isn’t for them, it’s for John and Jack, I must fix what I couldn’t before!” Jade looked at me concerned “You’re taking responsibility for something that you couldn’t have saved, you couldn’t have done anything more.” I then looked down trying to hide the pain that had engulfed me I then looked back up and nodded. She then smiled and I would be lying if I said it didn’t at least make me smile inside, it looked sweet, pure, innocent. I then out of nowhere for what would be the last time, cried after that I regained composure. I would break again as after tonight I would have closure for what happened, and I could rest for the first time in 8 months, ironically enough was when I started battle school life went to shit, it didn’t matter now as I was done fighting, maybe I wasn’t cut out for this after all? I thought to myself after Jade saw the tears she again comforted me pulling me in for one last hug before going back to professional. “We should get on the simulator, go for a few quick runs before leaving.” I nodded “Let’s do this!”

Beast
A threat to the galaxy has come from another, and the Union of intelligent life will go to any length to stop it. Military Quarantine has held for hundreds of thousands of cycles. Traders, merchants, colonists, and Pirates live risky lives along the fringes as the politics from the inner systems fail to see the larger threats beyond their borders. A lone human finds himself far from home with no memories to how he arrived. A failing Trade vessel plays on a desperate gamble, while a malicious parasite searches for a suitable host. ............................................. Author's note: Beast is a story that I wrote a long, long time ago. Some of you might have read it then, back when it was posted on reddit over at r/HFY. It was my first webfiction and made in the spirit of that subreddit's "genre" of humanity being awesome. But, it is also a story that has bothered me a little bit. Just like most new writers tend to do, I made mistakes and errors that feel painful to reread. A Space Opera will be a Space Opera, but I had prose that makes present-me cringe. Still, at the same time, the story is still very much a tale I've never given up on. It was my first adventure into fiction: Beast was a crazy adventure with bodysnatching aliens, galactic war, threats from across the universe... Posting this story here is a way to try and redeem myself a bit. I won't call it a complete rewrite, because it's not, but I have wanted to go through and correct some of the major issues Beast has for a long time and put it somewhere more accessible to read (instead of as posts/comments on reddit) and I figure that now is as good a time as any. Additional corrections you might notice are welcome.

Leave Bad Enough Alone
Something has been amiss in the city’s theaters as of late. The local bards have long done a respectable job of keeping the audiences entertained, weaving high concepts with skillful performances. But lately, a new set of bards, and their illusionist cohorts, have captured the crowd’s attention. Compared to the theater’s usual fare, their work is hackneyed and poorly plotted, with unskilled acting, bad special effects, and unsatisfying resolutions. Worst of all, the audiences like their work more, and these upstarts are far more profitable than the city’s decent bards! Clearly, there must be some dark secret behind the success of these newcomers, and it’s up to the city’s true artists to find out what it is and expose the conspiracy! Or maybe the city’s bards have just become too hopelessly pretentious and derivative. It’s hard to tell. But investigate it they must! Failure is not an option! Victory, or...well, they’ll have to get day jobs or something. Original cover image generated by NightCafé.Master story list here.

An Average American in A High-school Academy Anime
An American versed in narrative tropes and more than mildly acquainted with anime wakes up in a completely different bed than the one he went to bed in. Now he has to scramble to understand where he is, what's going on, and hope to God he isn't in a relationship drama. I don't expect this to be good or well-received, but I have plenty of time this quarantine, so I'll try to get a chapter of 4000-10000 words out every one or two weeks. (haha) Please let me know how it can be improved. I'm an avid reader of fiction, but I've never really fallen down a rabbit hole so hard that I can name all tropes and settings and such by heart. I'm not sure if this will be effective satire, so I preemptively apologize. Inspired by: "My Life is Not a Manga, or maybe..." by EO Tenkey and "The Simulacrum" by Eganthale. Check them out if you want probably better stories than this one.
