Chapter 10: Death
As Remy turned around and looked at the girl, he helplessly sighed, “Okey, who are you and why do you have such enmity for me?” Remy had noticed that she had unusual enmity towards him even though she tried to mask it. He was just wondering, who was she and what he did to make her hate like this.
The girl looked into his eyes and said, “Do you remember the little girl you used to play with at Atsor. Do you know what happened to her after Burgis came?” Hearing this Remy's eyes turned to carriage wheels when he asked in an unbelieving tone, “You are Laura? How- Why?” Laura was his best friend when growing up but he hadn't seen her after the Hell is Atsor.
He always thought that she died there as well. Laura just let out a laugh as she said, “Hahahaha, surprised? The soldiers took me with them when they retreated from Atsor. I was thrown to a soldier program when we reached a military base but before that I was violated in any way possible.” The look in her eyes betrayed insanity. It was as clear as day that she was more broken than Remy by at least ten times.
Remy just cast his gaze down and smiled bitterly, “In war families are lost, children become broken and the world loses itself in it.” When Laura heard that, she showed a bitter smile as well when she said, “And childhood friends end up pointing guns at each other with knives at their throats.” Remy let his hands down to his sides as he looked at Laura in her eyes and said, “Come with me I can protect you. I know people who could give you a brand new identity and make it so like you had existed as that person forever.”
What Remy said was complete truth because to him, she was a person he could trust the most when they were little and she was the only family like person left for him. When Laura heard that, her determination faltered for a second but she regained it in a second and said, “I'm sorry but that's not possible. Good Bye.”

When she said “Good Bye” a gunshot could be heard. She shot him straight in the head. When she shot Remy, her eyes were cold. She immediately said into her radio, “Target lost. Time to evacuate, he managed to contact the authorities so we are compromised.” When her radio communication had ended, she looked at Remy's corpse and squatted down near his head.
She looked at him with nostalgic eyes as she removed her necklace. It was a banged up dragon wrapped around a cross. She looked at it and put it in Remy's hands and said, “If I didn't have the goal of destroying every government in this world I would have taken up your offer in a heartbeat. However, the world isn't as soft as that.”
She stood up and took up a cellphone from her pocket. She dialed a number and when it picked up, she said, “The courier didn't know anything, so our plans aren't compromised.” From the other side of the phone a cold voice resounded, “What about the Courier?”
She looked at Remy for a second and said, “He refused to cooperate with us.” “Roger that, evacuate from the mission point then.” As the voice resounded one last time, the phone was hung up.
She looked at Remy one last time and said, “Nothing personal. Revenge and revolutions don't come without casualties.”
With that she started evacuating with the rest of her men.

They were long gone by the time Alex and the rest arrived. After Alex and the rest thoroughly combed through the area, they didn't find any clue to who was behind this. There were singes of killing but no bodies whatsoever.
Even all the weapons and vehicles were gone. It was only an empty, abandoned military base. Remy's body was the only thing that was left and currently covered with a white sheet. All the soldiers around Remy's body were the people who knew him, they were also regulars at Sleeping Dragon.
Sleeping Dragon was a gathering place of retired and active soldiers so everyone knew Remy. When they saw his body, everyone were enraged because they knew that he was on a delivery for the government. They also saw the wounds covering his body, they were obvious signs of torture.

They wanted to find the people behind this and kill them in the most painful and slow way possible. They all looked towards Alex who was coming down the corridor. On Alex's face was a very grim expression, it was obvious he was enraged and sad at the same time.
After Remy's body was discovered, Alex went outside and loud shouts coupled with big bangs followed. They understood that he was venting his grief on everything that was in his way. As Alex reached his body he asked in a cold voice, “Who were these fuckers, I will personally make them suffer.”
One of the people, who was standing next to Remy's body, handed him a necklace. The man was the same one from the military base who was with the scientist. He also had a grim expression on as he started saying, “This was the only foreign thing on his body. Check the engraving on the back and you will understand.”
Alex turned the pendant around and saw words engraved on the back with a knife. It was obvious that it was done by a child. The words read, “To Laura, from Remy. 2094.” When he saw the words, he understood as well, it was someone from the Burgis Empire. He remembered Remy talking about his childhood friend Laura a few years back when he asked about his nightmares.
Remy had said that 4 days before the Hell, he had borrowed money from his parents and bought that necklace for her. It was some junk that was sold cheap but she had like it from the moment she saw it. Alex grit his palm and just as he was about to say something, a soldier hurriedly came to report, “Sir this is bad, media is outside.”
Everyone looked towards the soldier with cold eyes and seeing this the soldier muttered in fear, “Someone has tipped them off about this. It seems like someone wants this to be known to everyone.” Everyone present looked towards Alex. Even though he was retired, the authority he had was not to be trifled with.
Alex looked at the soldier and said, “Secure a straight line to the truck. Tell the reporters if even one fucker dares to stand in the way I will shoot him myself.” The soldier understood what he was planning to do and saluted him. After saluting he turned around and went to deal with the media.
Alex just looked towards the men present and said with a bitter smile, “I always thought that the one to carry us away would be him, not the other way around.” Everyone else gave a bitter smile as well and strapped the guns to their backs. They got a stretcher from the medical team that came with them and lifted Remy's body on the stretcher. The squad who surrounded Remy was a 12 man squad.
4 people carried the stretcher while the remaining 8 formed a circle around him. Alex stood behind the stretcher and was carrying Remy's helmet. When they walked out of the old base, all the reporters were trying to get an interview and taking pictures or filming this. However, even they understood that currently, the people carrying the body, were elites of this country and had very grim faces on.
If someone was to poke them the wrong way, it could end up very bad for everyone. When Remy's body had been loaded onto to the military truck, everyone who came with Sleeping Dragon, sat in their cars and withdrew as well. They had searched this place and found no leads so there was no reason to loiter around anymore.
They left the security and dealing with everything else to the soldiers that were not a part of their team.A military envoy from Sleeping Dragon escorted Remy's body back to Hisosi. This incident broke the equilibrium that had been created between the countries.
The people however remembered that as a day a Courier died to deliver top secret information to the military base.

Dungeon Core Chat Room.
This is a slower-paced "experiment and dungeon building" web novel that tries to use the idea of peer-to-peer communication with Dungeon Cores instead of Dungeon to slave monster communication to break up the detailed dungeon building. Rank 1 description: (minimum met for system initialization...detailed description as follows) Each race was given a system by the gods to make up for their shortcomings and balance their place in this world. Humans: Abysmally bad at understanding and using magic unable to use more than the lowest of magic were given the "Skill System" magic in the form of premade skills with use, study, and mastery tied to experience. Elves: Intuitively understand magic and have long lives leading to vast knowledge and skill in their chosen fields. However, as a species, they have nearly zero sex drive and less than low fertility, so they were gifted the "World Tree System" with experience gained through the care of natural areas – gifting the chance of children to increase their numbers without dirty copulation. All “natural” or “wild” monsters are given an "Evolution system" designed around killing and consuming as many creatures as possible, slowly increasing strength and, at thresholds, allowing mutations to alter them multiple times. Dungeon cores are different. Unlike humans, they can see, manipulate and live off mana. Unlike Elves, they naturally crystallize after extended periods of time in high mana level areas. However, they cannot easily move or communicate and typically go insane without companionship. As a species other than the odd eccentric they are unimaginative. Brute forcing solutions without the drive to truly innovate. Thus they have been gifted with the "Dungeon Connection System" a magical version of the internet accessible by their peers that allows them to barter and sell: bait, traps, monsters, and knowledge, as well as entertain each other with “adventure streams” using exciting recorded battles and humorous reels of arrogant chumps biting off more than they can chew to often fatal effects. This is the casual story of a dungeon unluckily spawned far from potential adventurers forced to innovate beyond its peers to find its place in this world. Rank 2 Description: Justification. I've been on a dungeon core kick for months and while I love the genre – it's sparse with entries. Often the forced conflict gets repetitive and frantic solving of threats "power levels" the protagonist to god levels to progress the plot – taking away the nice steady progression fantasy I'm looking for. (Progression in this story is linked to how strong of monsters/traps/whatever he can create not his "level"...this is demonstrated by some of his newer monsters beating his older monsters not with discrete "this monster has 10 attack this one has 40") Additionally, the focus on 3rd parties with their drama takes away from the reason I’m reading dungeon core novels in the first place – I'm looking for magical crafting, experimentation and kingdom building – not defence from higher and higher levelled enemies looking to steal/destroy/control the MC. This novel is kind of just me writing the story I wish I could read. I like thinking about the experimentation that can be done in fantasy settings using 'mana' as an excuse to make up rules and try to keep them internally consistent. IE once I define how a rule works, I'm going to commit to keeping it – no breaking hard truths I've given when it's convenient, even if it backs me into a corner. Hopefully, that should make the story interesting to read even if it's SOL and less action-oriented. There will be problems to solve and a clear progression in strength (of created monsters and knowledge) however due to not wanting to force conflict for the sake of conflict the general theme will be closer to slice of life with few action sequences and no overarching goal so please keep that in mind when picking this up as the genre is not for everyone. Finally, I have a clear goal of what I want from this story (not an endless romp but a series of arcs and then a conclusion that's a couple of dozen medium-sized chapters long) I want to commit to finishing it or at least bringing it to a point of rest. I hate all the engaging stories that stop with a “hiatus” indefinitely so in the event I lose motivation I'll work to end this even if the ending becomes rushed/unsatisfying just to give a sense of closure. I’m planning on including several polls in terms of direction and taking feedback heavily into account if I get enough readers (but may choose to ignore it if it deviates too far from the direction I want to take this as in feedback like: “The MC needs a cartoonishly evil arch-enemy that wants to enslave him and force the mc to pump out magic items” or “the MC needs to make a body and learn teleportation then live with humans” will get shot down without consideration.)
