《Fishbowl》Chapter 6.3

Lachlan
After Lachlan and Sam had both managed a few hours of sleep and found some fresh clothes and a jug of water to wash the worst of the blood away, they’d decided to search the houses in the town for supplies.
It was only getting harder and harder to make sense of this place. The building Lachlan and Sam had been in before and the wide concrete expanse on top had felt surreal–overly simplistic, abstract approximations of familiar things.
This town felt too real, too detailed. Trinkets and clutter were scattered through the houses, as though real people had lived there. The last house they’d visited had been full of photographs of a smiling family, and the table had been set as though the residents had just vanished in the middle of a meal.
“I’m picking up on a bit of a Pompeiian vibe here,” said Lachlan.
“What?” said Sam.
“A once-picturesque Italian city, frozen forever in time and left to decay?”
“Italian?” said Sam. “What makes you think this place is Italian?”
Lachlan pointed at a street sign.
“Well, for one thing, we just turned from Via Marconi onto Via Roma,” said Lachlan. “For another, every single street sign and shop name is in Italian.”
“I haven’t exactly been paying attention to whether the streets have Italian-sounding names or not,” said Sam. “That hasn’t really been a priority given every single other thing about our situation.”
“Point taken,” said Lachlan.
They headed toward a house with a gray-white stucco exterior that stood out among the pastel rainbow of tall narrow houses squeezed together along the street. Sam’s shoes made a schtick, schtick, schtick sound as he walked, the dried blood on his soles sticking to the ground.
Hopefully, there would be a fresh pair of shoes in Sam’s size in the next house. That sound was getting disturbing to listen to.

“There are two possibilities for this town,” said Sam. “This first is that it originated in this plane of reality. After all, parallel universe have infinite possibilities, so it’s virtually guaranteed that the Italian language would exist in some of them.”
“That seems unlikely.”
“There’s also the second possibility,” said Sam, “that it was pulled into this place somehow, through a massive-scale version of the phenomenon we both experienced. But an entire town disappearing isn’t exactly subtle. It would have been all over the news.”
An Italian town disappearing? Wait a minute…
“Interesting,” said Lachlan. “I can’t help but think of Borgo San Severino.”
“I don’t know what that is.”
“You Americans really aren’t aware of anything that happens outside your country, are you?” said Lachlan.
“Are you going to tell me what it is, or are you just going to keep being a jerk about it?”
“There was a town in Italy that disappeared a few years ago.”
“An entire town?” Sam raised an eyebrow. “How does an entire town disappear?”
“Supposedly there was an explosion. A research lab accident.”
“Okay,” said Sam. “The issue with your little theory is that this town has decidedly not exploded.”
“Hence why I said ‘supposedly’,” said Lachlan. “They say the town was obliterated so completely, it was as though it vanished into thin air.”
“Hm,” said Sam. “It’s actually a compelling theory in that case. I’d be interested to know what kind of research that lab was doing.”
“I know someone who lived near enough to the town to hear the accident when it happened. She said it didn’t sound like an explosion. It was more like a ripping noise. Sound familiar?”

“Hm,” said Sam again. “That makes it even more compelling.”
They reached the stone front stoop of the narrow gray house. An arch of white stucco framed the entryway, with a dark green door in the right half of the arch and a window in the left half, both curved to match the arch’s shape. A black awning, deprived of its purpose in a place without sun or rain to shelter them from, hung over the front porch.
Something about the house felt strange, but Lachlan couldn’t figure out what it was. He opened the door.
“After you, Samurai,” he said.

Old Version - The First Magician
INDEFINITE HIATUS I always seem to make these too long when I ask for peoples opinions so I’m not gonna try an exciting description anymore but instead just give you an idea of what to expect. First off, this is my 2nd attempt at a story but my foundation for this one is much better than the 1st already and I see this going much further and so far its coming together much faster and easier. So please excuse me if things are not up to publishing standards. Also I tend to confuse your, you’re and so on so sorry to people that triggers ahead of time. The First Magician follows the story of 15 year old Alex in a post apocalyptic rpg-ish world in the near future. Earth was transformed, monsters appeared and people began being able to use Ki but could not figure out how to use magic. Alex ends up becoming the first human able to use magic through a series of events and sets in motion events that will change the very future of the human race. He will be somewhat OP simply because he is the only human (at least to start, who knows about later?) who is able to use mana. Many classic RPG elements have been removed. I didn’t want the story to be like all of the other lit rpg stories on RRL but it also makes the writing easier for me hence the watering down of rpg elements. UPDATES: I am doing this to relieve stress and for fun so I will release chapters when I can. So far though ive managed to keep up with 2 most days. CONTENT WARNINGS: There will be some light language but it won't be insane. I might have some gore later on but am unsure and the same for the sexual content. Sexual content isn't super likely as I doubt I can write it well but I put the tag so people cant yell about it if I add some in the future but forgot to add the tag. COVER ART: Yes it is from the anime Log Horizon. It is a good representation of what earth looks like despite it not being many years in the future. DISCORD: https://discord.gg/s6V3hGV

Re:Hammer
Your average Reborn Game System story, similar to The Gamer and Solo Leveling. Written for fun rather than novilization like the others, so it is smaller and less intense. It is set in an AU Warhammer (based on a slightly modified version of Warhammer Fantasy's End Times. (Modified because the real setting was a catastrophe. There will be no exploding moons or beating the God Of Indulgence because they overindulged, and no Slaans fucking off to space. People shall use their brains and not just "lol cuz I can" bs like Todbringer thinking the end of the fucking world was the best time to go persue you interracial Yaoi rivalry with a Beastlord). So you might notice names and events but don't expect it all to go the same way. And the Main Character is not the only Player in this game~ Sequel found here. https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/26444/rehammer-the-hammering

Papercuts to Fell Immortals
Qing Shen is a girl from the counrtyside, forced into a role she never wanted by a Young Master who's infamy is spread throughout the land. As a Cultivator in the path to immortality, Qing Shen has to deal with her own problems as well as the mysteries surrounding her Young Master. Things, however, are not as they seem, and the young girl finds that sometimes the truth is more unbelievable than the lies we often follow. . . . If you want a less hidden-meaning summary: This story is about the struggles of one girl as she tries to become an Immortal. There won't be any meaningful romance, but there will be a plot that spans most of the story, and violence. Oh the violence! I'm not going to say that my ideas are 100% original (because hoo boy are there a lot of Wuxia), but hopefully I can write something entertaining. Guaranteed things: 1. Cliche events with a twist (I mean, it's literally in the description) 2. Important Characters will have backstories and motivations that will hopefully make them not one-dimensional (honestly, that's just normal stuff...) 3. Untrustworthy characters (everyone in the story lies, even me, so don't trust everything you read... but at the same time, trust everything you read) 4. Goodish grammar (not gonna say mine's the best, but it's readable in most cases) 5. Plot! (Everywhere!) 6. worldbuilding? (Should be there somewhere, but I probably won't do blatant info dumps... probably) 7. Character development? (Its there... at some point...) 8. The story gets dark at some points (if you don't like characters dying, then this might not be your cup of tea) 9. A strong main character? (She'll be strong, yes. However, her enemies are also strong. If everyone is strong, then is she no longer strong? My brain hurts) 10. Wow, this list is going on for awhile... uh, Believable and reasonable Action? (I mean, I'm writing for mainly my fun, so if I want a fight scene, then I might craft a scenario to explain it... or I might suddenly throw in a Dragon and call it a day) This story also goes by the same name over on Webnovel.com, but I'm going to be updating it here because, well I want to. They are both by me, and created by me. If there's anything that seems like a copy of another work, then that's just the genre being saturated by everything under the sun.

Midthalion Saga
+++Working on new chapters. Share what I've posted with your friends and family! Be sure to build strong bonds with those who are important to you. We only have each other in this world for so long!+++ Can Roderick XXIII gather together and train a party of adventurers to clear out Madeon Caves and bring peace to the wildmarches of Midthalion? Sent from his home monastery in the west to the wildmarches of Midthalion, Roderick the Holy Avenger is devoted to living out his oath to bring the Holy Light to the dark corners of the world. He enlists the help of an old friend, Ulrich Vogelbrandt the dwarf druid, to train and prepare a fighting force capable of defending the west from the evil they both see gathering and growing in the east. Eoroth is an ode to Tolkienesque epic fantasy, Robert E Howard and H.P. Lovecraft's pulp fiction, and Gygaxian Dungeons & Dragons. I like to write about serious topics because I think it's fun. I hope it makes for a fun read. Place: Eoroth, a vast, flat world with many continents set in oceans that reach out and mingle with the Celestial Sea. Our story takes place on the continent of Thalion in the middle, unsettled region called Midthalion. Peoples: Races in Eoroth aren't different species; the species of man is just incredibly diverse, consisting of many known races (and perhaps some unknown). There are no humans in Thalion. Thalion's races include variations of elves, dwarves, halflings (billowits), pierros (clownish men), bergeracs (long-nosed and swarthy men of honour), orcs, trolls, goblins, and hobgobs. The Church: There's one dominant religion in Westhalion. The faith of the elves is an analogue to Roman Catholicism while the dwarves practice an Eastern Orthodox analogue. (Forgive me for not having figured out names yet.) The practitioners worship a triune god (the All-Father, Son-of-All, and Holy Light). There are many powers in heaven, all created by God. These include the Twelve High Thrones, individual, created beings who take on the role of guiding mankind in different aspects, drawing them closer and closer to God. (That should be the essentials. I could write pages on the theology. Comment where something's unclear in the story.) Natural World: There are plants and animals in Eoroth, but the world is also inhabited by spirits called aeons. Aeons are transformative beings; in the wild, they'll change based on whatever is happening nearby. Pollute a pond? Expect to see toxic toad-men running around. Leave a bunch of dead bodies strewn across a battlefield? Expect the place to become haunted with ghouls and ghasts. Druids are important for making sure that the aeons are pacified; that their needs are met so that they don't become rampaging monsters. Where the wilderness becomes overgrown, so too do the aeons. Aeons and People: Long ago, men learned how to trap aeons in stone tablets and use them for war. Now, anyone can capture an aeon into a special staff made by a druid. Men train, raise, and bond with these aeons. Druids often build entire ranches devoted to raising healthy aeons as allies and companions. Aeons are divided into twelve known families, and the church sees these as corresponding with the Twelve Thrones in Heaven. Direction: My goal is to get the story to one million words by June next year. I have tons of content in mind for the world. I want to release novels set in different ages of the world depicting different historical events. I hope to expand the setting into a tabletop role-playing game as well as a series of old-school JRPGs. But, it all begins with writing some stories and publishing my novels.
