《Questline: Our Second Chance In Another World》Chapter 20: The Lady of the Lake

Brandon and Felix spent quite some time mining iron ore before they decided to take a break, and let Tenjin take a turn.
"We really got quite the haul didn't we?" Felix said proud of the work they had put in.
"Yeah, we sure did." Brandon replied. "I was surprised to find pickaxes, so now we should be able to do maintenance on our equipment."
"Or forge new ones." Tenjin added as he was hacking away at the iron vein.
They all stood there in brief silence when Trinity suddenly began to panic. "Brandon, Brandon the girls are in trouble!"
A few minutes earlier Ava and Cass just arrived at the lake, and began exploring along the shoreline. The water was a clear blue, and was so still that they could see their reflections when they looked in it.
"Wow this is beautiful." Ava said in awe of the natural beauty right in front of her. "Oh, and look there's so much fresh fruit growing here." Ava pointed at as she looked around at all of the surrounding trees.
"Yeah, it's real beautiful alright." Cass replied almost seeming uninterested in the scenery around her. She then began looking closely at the lake while squinting her eyes to see if anything was moving below the surface.
The lake wasn't very big, and it only took them a minute or two to walk from one side to the other.
"I wonder if there are any good fish in here?" Cass wondered as she continued to examine the lake.
After walking to the other side of the lake both Ava and Cass suddenly began hearing a familiar voice that sounded like it was coming from every direction.
"Hello everybody, this is your friendly administrator talking, or at least that's what many of you have been referring to me as."
They both recognized that voice instantly. It was the same man whose voice they had heard when they first arrived, and told them they were now in a video game like world that he had created.
"I hope you've all been enjoying some of the little surprises I left for you all; the friends list, the housing tab, and even the guild benefits. I'll admit it wasn't part of my initial design, but I decided to add them in last minute after we spoke. And now I have a new update for you all once again. I'll be adding in some special monsters. Specifically, they'll be humanoid monsters with real intelligence equivalent to that of a regular person, and just a heads up; some of these monsters will be mini-bosses so look out, and enjoy!"
Immediately after the man's voice ceased Cass spotted something in the middle of the lake. The water was slowly starting to rise, and ripples began going out from the middle of the late towards the shore.
Something began to slowly rise from the water. The first thing Cass could see was what looked like aqua blue hair and pale white skin. As it continued to rise, she could see a female face with beautiful blue eyes that reminded her of the ocean, and a slender figure. Whatever it was looked like a human woman wearing a plain aqua blue Bakini top and a long blue skirtini as the bottom of the swimsuit.
When the woman rose completely out of the water Cass could see that her feet were bare, and that she was just standing on the water. When she looked at the status above the woman's head she saw the words "Water Nymph Lvl 5" and an HP bar with 80/80 next to it.

Back at the goblin cave Trinity had just informed Brandon that the Cass and Ava were in trouble and Brandon began to panic a little when they heard the Administrator say that he had make an update.
"What, what do you mean by update?" Felix yelled hoping the Administrator would respond to him. Unfortunately, his pleas for answers fell on deaf ears, or the Administrator was just ignoring him.
"Trinity is one of the new monsters the reason that the girls are in danger?" Brandon asked quickly trying to think of what their next move should be if that were the case.
"Yes!" She replied. The lake they are at is now home to a water nymph. It's a mini-boss so it will be pretty tough for them to take on without any help."
Brandon immediately turned towards the other two, and once they all made eye contact they began running towards the exit with the intention of finding the girls.
As they were running Brandon decided to contact Cass and Ava using the guild chat. "Hey Cass, Ava, are both of you alright?" Brandon asked still in a panic. "We heard there's a mini-boss where you guys are!"
"Yeah, we're fine!" Cass replied while she was looking straight at the water nymph with her mouth partially ajar. "I'm looking right at the thing. She's all the way in the middle of the lake now, so I think we'll be fine."
Right as she was saying that Ava turned around and they could both see the water nymph had gotten within 20 feet of them. She smiled as she lifted up her right arm, and what looked like a tentacle made of water rose from the lake. It was over 30 feet high and a 2-3 feet thick. When the water nymph swung her arm out towards them the water tentacle followed and lashed out at them.
Cass went to push Ava out of the way, and they barely managed to dodge in time.
As they were both getting up off the ground they could hear Brandon's voice in their heads. "Well, get away from there. We'll try to make our way over to you as quickly as possible, and we'll take it out together".
The water nymph began to strike out at them again after summoning two more water tentacles. They just barely managed to jump out of the way of the second attack.
When Cass looked at the water nymph again they saw that her magic stat was at 20 while everything else was just at 10, but despite all of the other stats being pretty low she would be difficult to defeat since she hadn't moved from her spot in the middle of the lake which was way to far for any of the guys to get to.
"Don't worry. We'll be able to take care of her. This is going to be a fight for long range fighters. Just stay where you are, and we'll let you know when we're done here." Cass demanded. Cass knew she could easily get away, but she was both angry and excited that this monster had decided to attack them.
Brandon and the others were still in the cave trying frantically to get to the exit, but when Cass said this, they all slowed down. "What do you guys want to do?" Brandon asked as he turned to look at the others.
"Even if we can't hit the thing we can still keep it distracted." Tenjin insisted. "Let's go help them out."

"Yeah, I'm not going to let our guild mates get hurt!" Felix agreed.
"Alright then!" Brandon said to the others, then he began speaking to the girls again. "Cass, Ava we're on our way. Do not engage until we arrive." He demanded of them.
"No offense Brandon." Cass stated as she began to talk back to him, "But I'm going to kick her arse before you have a chance to reach us."
Cass and Ava were faced with a water nymph who had summoned what looked like water tentacles to strike at them from afar. Luckily for the two of them she was in range of Cass's attacks.
Cass had sent Cillian off into the tree line to stand guard against any other enemies that might try attacking them from behind. This wouldn't be a fight he'd be able to do much in so Cass didn't want to risk losing him.
As Cass avoided the next attack two more tentacles of water rose from the lake with the total now being five. She managed to notch a single arrow and send a power shot flying at the water nymph.
It managed to hit her square in the shoulder, taking away a decent chunk of HP with 66/80 remaining.
Ava attempted to use her vine whip spell in conjunction with Cass's attack, but it fell a few feet short.
"I don't think I'll be much help here." Ava stated frustrated by the fact that she didn't know any spells that could reach the water nymph. "I'm going to back off and focus on healing you. I'll try to knock her off balance with a few spells to."
"Sounds good to me!" Cass agreed. She already knew Ava wouldn't be able to help much in this fight. She had watched Ava very carefully when she fought just like all the others, and there was no way any of Ava's spells would have the reach they'd need for this fight. She could provide support, but it would be up to Cass alone to win this fight.
Meanwhile after Cass had told them they were going to attempt to fight the water nymph the boys began booking it over to their location. Fortunately, because of Trinity they would be able to make a straight shot for the lake without getting lost.
"Ah man, those two are so reckless!" Brandon declared frustrated at their decision to fight the water nymph without them. "I can't believe they decided to stay and fight. They could easily get away, and they have no good reason to fight in the first place."
"They still think this is some kind of game don't they?" Tenjin asked expecting the others to agree with him.
"I doubt that. Cass is from the 90's." Brandon explained. "So, I doubt she'd just think of this as some sort of video game. She's not familiar with the concept, and Ava's probably just going along with it because she doesn't want to abandon Cass."
"You think she probably just got angry or something?" Felix asked.
"Yeah, or she's just confident she can take it down, and loves the action. She hunted for sport after all." Brandon replied. "She probably gets some kind of kick out of combat, or just thinks she can test her skill."
"Yeah, that's definitely reckless." Tenjin confessed. They were all silent for a moment when Tenjin suddenly spoke up again. "Either way we have to get to them quickly before something bad happens. We've only been running a few minutes and we're not even half-way there. Let's try to pick up the pace."
The boys continued running, but they had to try to stay together. Updates had been made to this world, but they didn't have the time to ask Trinity about all the changes. They couldn't leave anyone behind or else it could have lead to more trouble for the group.
Back at the lake Cass managed to score another hit on the water nymph using her power shot leaving it with 46/80 HP. Unfortunately, she had to stand still to make the shot which left her open for an attack.
The huge tentacle slammed down on her, and managed to knock her to the ground. When Cass looked at her HP bar she had 42/65 HP remaining.
"What the hell!" Cass grunted while her face was flat on the ground. "How did this thing do that much damage with one blow?"
Then Cass remembered what she saw when she looked at the water nymph's stats. Magic was 20 points, and this looks like a powerful spell.
"I really underestimated how strong this thing is, Cass thought to herself."
She lifted her head to see what was going on, and saw another tentacle was coming after her. She quickly rolled out of the way just barely avoiding it, and managed to get back on her feet.
She shot a couple of arrows in the general direction of the water nymph while she was running an circling back around to Ava, but none of them managed to hit.
As Cass came running by her, she was just close enough for enough time for Ava to hit her with two Nature's Gift spells. The strategy they had decided to adopt was for Cass to run around and shoot off arrows in the water nymphs general direction if she every got hurt, and Ava would just Cass Nature's Gift as Cass passed by her so they wouldn't have to stop to much and risk creating an opening for the monster.
Their tactic seemed to be working so far. One more hit and the water nymph would lose half of its HP. Cass made a couple more passes by Ava while shooting a few volleys of arrows and dodging the tentacles until she finally got back to full health.
"Alright I'm going to set up the next shot!" Cass shouted while looking back at Ava while she was running. "Try to get her attention"
"Alright!" Ava complied. She ran towards the shoreline to try to get as close as possible to the water nymph without actually stepping in the water.
Ava looked down at her feet for a brief second, and she tensed up a little as she saw the water swaying back and forth almost close enough to touch her. Neither of them were sure of the extent of the water nymphs control over water, so they were afraid to touch any of the water in the lake. However, now that Ava was almost touching it she decided she needed to make this quick.
Ava raised her right arm as if she was about to crack a whip, and then cast her vine whip spell. As she flicked her wrist part of her hoped that somehow the attack would connect, but to no avail. Still the attack was in the water nymphs general direction and managed to catch her attention.
The water nymph struck out at Ava with one of the tentacles and managed to hit her. This was the first time Ava had actually felt any pain in this world. The instance with the Night Mare might have drained her HP, but she was asleep the whole time, and just felt more tired afterwards. This time was different though. She could feel the jolt of pain throughout her whole body, and her HP bar showed 42/65 HP just like when Cass was hit.
Ava retreated away from the shoreline and tried casting Nature's Gift in herself, but it wouldn't work. Apparently, it could only be used to heal allies. Luckily, Ava's efforts weren't in vain, and Cass managed to hit the water nymph square in the stomach with her next power shot.
The water nymphs HP now read 29/80, so it would only take a couple more shots from Cass before it was finally deafened. However, once Cass's arrow hit the water nymph began to scream like she was in pain.
"She sounds human." Ava thought to herself.
After the water nymph had finished screaming the five tentacles that she had been attacking with disappeared, but this wasn't the end of it.
Suddenly, the water nymph began running towards the shore. Cass saw this as an opportunity to get another hit on her, but she was moving so fast she could let the string go in time.
Once it was a couple feet from shore it jumped in the air, and a pillar of water shot out from the lake below it. She landed on it and the pillar began moving around on land like a snake with the water nymph standing on its head.
When Ava and Cass both saw this they knew right away that they still had a tough fight ahead of them.

Take Two!
College student majoring in botany has a fateful encounter with truck-kun while trying to get back in shape after realizing that his freshman 15 turned into the sophomore 20, and then the junior 30. After going through a very amusing(to some) hell, he gets the chance to transmigrate into a body of his own design on a magical world. Playing to his strengths, he chose the Plantkin race, and the new name of Sorrel to match. This is a slow-paced, magical, slice-of-life story with a focus on relationships. There will be sex(I'll try to keep the explicit stuff to a minimum, but it will be there), swearing, really bad jokes, and enough food to spoil your diet. There will not be a lot of action, epic quests to save the world, or anything even remotely resembling a big-bad-evil-guy(a few smaller bad guys, sure. But, no BBEG). Note: This is a re-write of my first story "Congratulations, You're Dead!". And, is much more what I wish I had written in the first place. The characters and the world are very similar, with a few key differences. The story may borrow some elements from Congrats, but should be considered as its own work. Reading Congrats first is not needed, or even reccommended, not unless you want to see some really cringey romance in the early chapters.
