Chapter 5: Four months
Diligently training, a month had passed. Shaon's cultivation level had risen to the peak of fourth level of Master stage. Even Remy was surprised by this speedy progress but it just goes to show you, the more seriously you take training, the more beneficial it is.
Shaon's gains during that month were not only limited to the rise in his cultivation level but also in terms of understanding. He gained a better understanding at fighting and honed his fighting skill, he had tripled the control over his body, his body fitness had risen to a whole new level as well. If he were to face those three elites from his clan now, he could easily slaughter them.
Even though the gains were immense, Shaon understood very well that this was only a short time gain. When Remy's power ran out, he would not be able to advance this fast even in his dreams. They made their goal to reach the Prince stage in another 6-7 months.
When during the day Shaon would do body training and fight against Archaic Beasts, at night, when he was cultivating, Remy would do a little review of what he did wrong in those fights or praised what he did right. Remy had a carrot and a stick teaching method.
He would praise him when he did things right but he would scold him if he did them wrong. When the praise and scolding are in balance, the effects are most beneficial. If you only either scolded or praised, it would only get Shaon killed.
Even though for the past month Shaon had been training intensively, the little monkey was not left behind in this. Remy worked out a training plan for him as well and the little monkey actually followed it. However one thing that baffled the both of them was how fast that little guy was growing.
When before he was about as big as Shaon's little back, then now he was twice as big as Shaon. The monkey's height reached a full grown mans now. Regarding this even Remy could not give a clear answer, he could only say that he was either a cross breed or a mutant.

Now they had reached a small town. Since it had walls surrounding it, you could tell that it wasn't little village in the sticks. They only stopped at the town for a few hours as Shaon went around looking for a map. He quickly found one and after learning the towns name and where Shaon's hometown was, he quickly understood which direction he needed to go in to reach Soradeen.
After talking it over with Remy, Shaon understood just how big the world was, to reach Soradeen in the pace that they had been going in would take at least 6 months. However they were in no hurry as they traveled along the way. Shaon also used the last of his money to buy himself a few essentials like some new clothes and a few dried rations.
As they merrily traveled along the road training time flew by and by now 4 months had passed. Shaon had just broken through to the third level of Grandmaster stage. His aura was different from before, he had fought a lot of life and death battles in these woods and had collected a lot of materials from Archaic Beasts as well. As Shaon was standing there on the road, he was frowning.
Behind his back was the little black monkey who was now huge compared to him. Shaon had decided to call him Veri. If someone passed by right now, they would probably laugh their butt off when they saw a 3 meter tall Yeti with a very buffed body hiding behind a 7 year old. As for the reason Shaon was frowning, a very powerful person had asked him to be her travel companion to Soradeen.
Shaon would've taken up the offer if the lady's guards had been a bit less of a prick. Instead of nicely asking him if he didn't mind accompanying their lady, those guys just barked orders at him.
When Shaon heard the orders, he was frowning and trying to hold back Remy, who was screaming inside his head, “You lowly little piece of shit. You dare order around my successor with your lowly skills? I've seen five year old who have more talent in their pinky finger than you have on your entire person.” Remy was truly enraged.

Over the course of 5 months that he had been training with Remy, he had learned a lot about his personality. Usually he was a happy go lucky kind of fellow, who went with the flow but if someone dared to order him around, it was like stepping on the tail of a sleeping dragon.
As he was frantically holding Remy from exiting his Dantian and killing everyone there, one of the old guards got closer, “You little slave, you dare ignore the orders of our lady?” As the old man drew closer to him, even Shaon was slowly starting to feel rage building up inside him.
None of the people there could detect Shaons true cultivation level, it was a neat trick taught to him by Remy. Although it didn't work on people who had a cultivation level higher than you. 15 out of the 20 guards were at the Master stage while the other 5 were in the early stages of the Grandmaster stage.
However even Shaon couldn't see through the cultivation level of the people inside the carriage. That was what made him most cautious, he had killed a lot of arrogant pricks on the road but even he didn't dare to randomly pick fights. However, the more that man talked, the more irritated Shaon grew.
When the old man in gray robes finally reached him to grab him by his arm, Shaon did a roundhouse kick to the stomach for the man. Before anyone could even register what just happened, the old man had flown deep into the woods already, through every tree along the way as well.
Then Shaon just looked extremely pissed as he yelled where that man had flown to, “You little prick shit, what the flying fuck gives you the right to call me a little slave? I have seen 5 year olds with better talent for cultivating in their pinky alone than you have one your entire persona.” As Shaon was raging towards the woods, he raised his middle finger to show there as well.
When the man touched Shaon, his aura changed immensely and his power rose to an unfathomable level as well. However, the one talking wasn't Shaon but Remy. Remy could take over Shaon's body for a short period of time and when he did, his strength came along as well. However, he could not stay for too long because if he did, he could cause great damage to Shaon's body.
Suddenly the carriage doors opened and two old men with a beautiful young lady jumped out. They all looked at Shaon with serious expressions as one of the old men wearing a purple robe asked, “I wonder how we have offended you great master but we apologize about that and hope that we can travel together in harmony.”
Shaon(Remy) looked at the man and raised his middle finger towards him as he said, “Fuck you prick. If your dogs had asked me like a normal person instead of barking orders and insulting me, I would have traveled with you but your arrogant little fucking puppies can't even ask someone to travel with them without managing to piss someone off. Who the goddamn Hell do you think you are?”
As the man heard the outburst, his teeth were grit from anger. He understood very well that the ones at fault here were them and if someone had barked orders to him like that, he would have most likely done the same as him. In this world, strength was power no matter who that strength belonged to. If you were strong enough no one dared to order you around.
The young lady stepped forward and respectfully cupped her hands towards him, “I apologize for the rudeness my subordinates showed you and would respectfully like to ask you to join us on our journey to Soradeen.” As Remy looked at the woman standing about 20 meters from him, he smiled. “It has been a long time Little Targon.”
When the woman heard that, her facial expression froze.

Sword System Academia
2/17 NOTICE: I'm putting this on hiatus, possibly permanently. I didn't want to spam with an "update chapter", so hopefully here and in the story blurb will get enough eyeballs. There are a couple reasons for ending SSA for now. 1) I wrote the next chapter but wasn't happy with it. I've been less and less satisfied with SSA's quality the more I thought about it. Part of the reason is... 2) I am seriously thinking about trying to publish some novels to help pay the bills, since I don't have my other source of income anymore. I have never asked for anything from SSA readers, no money, not even a review or rating. SSA is written for fun to amuse myself, primarily, and I would kind of feel bad actually charging someone money for something as unserious as that. I don't think it is good enough to ask anything in return. To use an analogy from music, SSA is more like a jam session with a bunch of friends. You're just chiling and having fun playing some music. I mean, if you are Mozart or even Eminem, your jam session is good enough to sell, but for an amateur beginner like myself, haha, no. If I want to publish something, I feel like I need to go the proper route of practice and rehearsals, which might be more similar to a classical concert performance. With SSA, I work from worldbuilding notes and a loose outline, but what you are essentially getting is the first draft with lots of so-called pantsing. Pushing out a web novel like this also means it is very difficult to go back and improve things without breaking everything else downstream. I wanted to try this "jamming" approach, as it was a good way to teach me about another aspect of writing, but to move forward, I think I need to hone my "classical" techniques, which emphasize rewriting, or at least, revising outlines. 3) While I intend to try to make $$$, my actual current goal is to "get gud". I've spent a lot of time recently trying to understand the self-publishing industry, and I'm pretty sure I can make some money by using short-term strategies with my current amateur skill level. But I've seen too many authors come and go/burnout, and really, the only way that I think I can enjoy writing and still make money on a long-term basis is to become a better writer. And the next step for me, which I haven't done much before, is to spend more time on rewriting and outlines. That is pretty much antithetical to the way SSA is developing. I've always been kind of 20/80 plotting/pantsing, but I want to spend a lot more time outlining before I even start writing. SSA jam sessions don't really fit my goal anymore. If you're curious about what's next, read on... Among other regrets, I regret not finishing SSA. It's the first story I've dropped, but then again, it's the first web novel I've attempted, so I suppose that's not a surprise. I don't think traditional web novel formats suit me that well. The whole SSA story I had loosely planned (beyond a first book or major arc) is way too large as well. Big story = good for neverending webnovel with Patreons, bad for penniless and fickle writer like me. I am currently outlining a complete trilogy to another story in great detail. I want the story to end concisely, and I also want the chance to really spend a lot of time on the full outline to spot pacing problems, character issues, lost themes, and so on. I'll still share this story on RR. What I intend to do is finish book 1, flash-publish the whole thing here for a few weeks, then publish on the big Zon. Repeat for books 2 and 3. The upcoming story will be about crafting heroes. The backdrop is an isekai-like setting, where elves will summon humans to their world as heroes, but the whole hero crafting business is still in its infancy. The elven mage researchers are figuring out how to imbue heroes with power, while the heroes are trying to figure out how to use the powers that they gain. Humans are the best hero templates because they are blank and have no intrinsic magic. Or at least that what the elves thought. The human MC has his own secrets... There will be some similarities with litrpgs, but I would call it more a progression fantasy or gamelit story. For example, the stats are very low, at least initially. Say we have a stat called Str. Going from Str = 1 to Str = 2 is a huge deal. Also, going from Dex = 0 to Dex = 1 is an even bigger deal. I guess you could call it a "low-stat litrpg", haha. Also, the heroes won't be gaining stats simply by killing things or leveling up. You can't increase stats arbitrarily, either. There will be rules to how stats can increase, and how they work with each other. The elven mages will be figuring out these rules in order to craft stronger and stronger heroes. Some inspiration will be from cultivation magic systems, but there won't be overt cultivation, at least for now. A theme I really want to explore is the idea of interactions. That includes things like hero crafter vs hero, tactics vs strategy, skill synergies, racial interactions (dwarves, elves, etc), and son. Yeah, so hero crafting. I'm super excited about this project and venturing into publishing. If you want to check out the upcoming story, you can follow my RR author profile to see when it drops here. Finally... THANK YOU TO EVERYONE! I'm very sorry that SSA is stopping, but I hope at least some of you will find the next story at least as enjoyable, if not more. Thanks to all the readers who gave SSA a shot. Big hug or solid fistbump to all of you, whichever you prefer! I hope this message is not a downer but an upper, because I am psyched!! -purlcray -------------- BLURB: Talen, youngest Master of the Koroi, makes his way to the Empire's capital to salvage his clan's fate. But the bustling city has few opportunities for the traditionalist. For the old sword clans are fading. With the rise of alchemy, gold can purchase strength that ordinarily took years of training to cultivate. Sword artists, once rare and accomplished, are quickly growing in number, especially among the wealthy noble class. Even with such alchemy, though, no one has advanced to the rank of Grandmaster in countless years. Talen's true dream is to walk the path of a sword artist to the very end while fulfilling his clan duties. And then the Swordgeists return, fabled founders of all sword arts, gods who had touched the world long ago and vanished. These myths turned into reality warn of a coming threat. Alongside this warning, they issue an invitation to the Sword System Academy, a path to power beyond the mortal realm. But first, they will hold an entrance exam... Story notes:Sword System Academia blends elements of western and asian fantasy such as xianxia and litrpg. I took parts from different genres I enjoyed and twisted them into my own creation. There will be an explicit system, both of the litrpg kind and the hard(ish) magic kind, but it is embedded within an academic structure that will develop over the course of the story. This is my attempt to design a unique type of system, the System Academia.
