《Path of Salvation》Chapter 021: Laments of the Fallen

Sitting within a rather empty room only containing two chairs that is dimly lit with checkered black and white tiles, Phantom and Sentience sat on top of these chairs trying to find a solution to their problems. Sentience wants to sacrifice the inhabitants of this planet to be freed from the grasps of her oppressors and finally be granted freedom after what seemed to be an eternity of nightmares. Phantom wants her authority to get closer to his goal. One wants to be selfish while the other wants to be selfless sacrificing anything he believes needs to be sacrificed.
"You're probably well aware of the fact that my time is limited and why I'm here," she said glaring into his eyes with stoicism. "I am here to get the Ultima Key you possess, an Authority and your ability."
Phantom sighed.
"So what? Do you believe I'm just going to hand it over?", he rebutted. He doesn't intend to back down or give anything away.
"What do I or her even gain from that?", he added.
"Well... considering how I could send you into a dream world that lets you revisit your past, I could assure you a world where you could change the past and do whatever you want for eternity. Isn't that something worth considering?"
The battle just before meant to tire Elena out, the memories Phantom wasn't fond of but sometimes reminiscent as they were of times where he still had strength, the deal that would allow him to just give up and live the dream life... all a ploy to get what she wants. Though the main reason she had stopped bringing him back in time to memories long forgotten was a pity, she still couldn't back down and would kill to be freed.
"I've long given up on what I want. The friends I wanted to save, the family I wanted to be a part of, the joy I would get from being an artist... At this point they're all alien as I-", he said.
"... as I'm longing for the salvation of all. A cause far greater than my individual needs are within my reach and I'm not going to allow that to slip away."
"Why?! You've lost friends and betrayed allies even making some kill themself for something you can't reach!", she yelled. Infuriated by the claim that he's doing it all for a greater cause tore down her short-lived stoic front.
"It's reachable! Someone who is selfish enough as to lay waste to millions just for her own freedom is just horrible just like you are!"
Both are enraged and they can't come to an understanding quite yet.
"Well, I'm the victim here! Just like you did as the Empyrea, that allowed many horrible acts to go down and even caused many tragedies... I have to do the same because you're the reason why I'm a slave to begin with!"
"As if you would understand! You're no victim! You're just selfish!"
Those words made her snap. She couldn't stand listening to people who claimed that their actions were for the good, especially when these actions create many or only victims.
"I've heard enough! We'll do it the hard way!"
A flash of light and everything went dark.
Awakening within a dark endless void, Phantom could only see himself as he was emanating light. It was cold, dry, and quiet.
"Why?", a familiar voice echoed. "Why did you leave me behind despite knowing how dangerous it was for me to keep on adventuring on that godforsaken planet? Why didn't you warn me of the horrors?"

It was Fortuna, though it was only a dark shadowy silhouette he could see. Though used by many other people Phantom had met, her hat and her astrolabe were something he was happy to see again.
"Fortuna! We haven't seen each other in a while! Are you her to-"
"As if anyone would want to help someone as disgusting and cruel as you. There's no amount of money that anyone could pay me to work with you ever again! I bet you're laughing your ass off knowing that I walked into another trap!", she uttered utterly disgusted by his presence alone.
"Trap? I didn't know! I swear I couldn't have known that the sandy planet we had met on would bring you right back into a death trap!", he countered.
"I didn't even say I did die. So you knew... I guess you slipped up! You knew that going on would get me killed by Aquila!"
Suddenly, sharpened rods pierced through every limb of hers and she was dragged into the air by a chain. Hanging there, she stared at him with contempt. This was her last message, her contempt for Phantom. She vanished just as she had appeared, in an instant.
"Look at him!", a young girl yelled.
"It's all his fault!", a young boy whispered on the verge of breaking down.
"If only he had never been created...", a young man said.
"If only god hadn't allowed him to exist...", a young woman added.
Five silhouettes, one girl with long hair in a dress, a boy only within torn shorts and chains attached to his arms and legs, one with no defining features except for the fact that its head was flickering like a TV with no signal, a young man who was well built and had short hair, a young woman with lots of curves, were glaring at him. Their bottomless hatred and the regret that came with helping him, could be felt even as they were silently displaying no facial expressions or gestures that would indicate so.
"You told me that it would pull me out of poverty... Being experimented on would pull my home planet out of misery... That's what you had promised me!", the young woman cried out.
"I couldn't have known that Vainglory would intercept us and bring wrath to your home! How could you blame me for-", but he was cut short by realizing what he was about to say.
"Finish it."
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to-"
"Finish that sentence! How could you blame me for that... That's funny... You have no right to say something like that and you'll never be in a position to do so as you'll always be at fault for the misery of others!"
She vanished and the young man stepped forward.
"I can't believe it. You're still alive."
Complete silence.
"Got nothing to say, huh?", he wondered as he properly took shape. Presenting his pinky finger, he broke it by bending it too far back.
No reply.
"I guess I'm just not that important to ya."
Another finger.
No reply.
"Was I always this hated?", he asked stepping closer.
Another finger.
No reply.
"I guess you still don't understand what it feels like to be a victim because you never will be one."
He twisted his head until something snapped vanishing right after doing so.
The third and nondefined being stepped forward. Humming as droplets of water slowly gathered around its head, it started to cry. Phantom could only sit and watch as he could only lament that this was another person that fell victim to a calamity. Its hums started to sound more and more dissonant as it kept weeping. Nothing he could do would stop it from drowning.

"Help me...", it whispered before its mouth got encased within the bubble. Phantom tried to reach out only for the figure to be submerged within darkness and vanish with it.
Phantom silently sat within the abyss looking down not uttering a word.
"I'm just showing you what you wanted. I'm showing you the salvation you've brought them and how it affected them," Sentience said though she was struggling to utter any more words. The show had to go on.
"Thinking about the offer, huh? I wonder what it's like to have the freedom to choose between the lives of others and anything I want. I guess it's a terrifying thought so I'd rather remain a slave than end up like you...", the young boy said pitying him.
Phantom was confused as he had never met that young boy but knew he had done him wrong.
"I forgot! You don't know who I am or rather I was far too insignificant wasn't I? You just killed me but for some reason saved that worthless idiot Giovanni. Without giving it a thought, you executed me with no qualms even though I was younger than Giovanni, even though I was far more skilled than him, even though I was from a better-off family... Why?"
"I'm so sorry," Phantom said though this wouldn't satisfy the young boy.
"I hope you get to be a slave too. You had enough strength to at least execute Aquila and grant us temporary freedom but you didn't. You could have saved us all but you didn't because that was too much work, right?", said the boy. A faint smile could be seen before he too vanished. Fading away into nothing he uttered five last words: "It should have been you."
Finally, it was the young girl's turn to speak. She just stepped forward and hugged him whispering into his ear.
"It probably felt good, right?", she asked. "After being treated like worthless scum by my people, you probably must have felt good watching them be slaughtered, right?"
"I shouldn't have-"
"It's fine. After I had been the only one to treat you like a decent person, you allowed me to fall into despair by the hands of the villagers, fed me Devil Seeds so that I would grow stronger, and created Walpurgisnacht, a Fusion you had failed to stop an uncountable amount of times and letting us suffer as we continue to bring wrath to lesser intelligent species or branches of human."
"I swear I'll stop you and set you free!", he yelled.
"Set me free? I don't want to be set free. I want to watch you suffer and maybe then you'll understand the pain I went through! I want you to lose everything as I did! Until then I won't stop! I don't want to be free at least until then! Maybe that's when you could free me, when you have lost the mental strength to do so... As I did!"
She vanished but it didn't end here. More silhouettes were to come into being until Phantom has fully succumbed to his past and those he has hurt.
"You're a jealous whore incapable of understanding me" a small and dark cloud recited. It enlarged to a massive black bubble that popped and revealed a more solid, but still shadowy woman looking down on him. "It's quite funny when it comes from you!", she added.
"I know that I-", Phantom said before being cut off.
"You know nothing. I have grudges because of you and I'm the reason why so many had to die because you were too weak to kill me. I wouldn't have lost control if you hadn't existed. I would have lived a happy life..."
"I know..."
"So then... Why do you believe that you're allowed to live? You should have been executed for everything you had done wrong!" With this, she, the one who called herself the Sustainer of Law and Order, vanished.
For the last two, a young woman and a young man probably around the same age as him that not only looked up to him but also were considered best friends or even siblings.
"Lilith! Magus!", Phantom yelled out as he was confronted with people he was fond of. Lilith had pointy ears and wore armor just enough to protect where she could hardly protect herself when caught off-guard while Magus had a ponytail and well-kept hair that befits his stature and his choice of clothing.
"It's been a while, Phoenix!", she joyfully stated. Lilith's bright blue eyes and lapis hair... filled Phantom with hope.
"It's such a shame that you haven't grown and remained the same boring fool following a heartless scientist."
"I should have known...", Phantom whispered. "I should have known that you too would have complaints about me."
Magus stepped forward and held his hand out. He stated, "Well this is nothing new. It wouldn't be the first time someone has had to sacrifice themself just to save you!"
Both, awfully joyful and enthusiastic talking about how they'd have to put their lives on the line just to save someone like him, wasn't the Magus and Lilith Phantom knew.
"I had almost forgotten that I'm not talking to the souls of those I've caused suffering. They're just copies that only look like them but cannot fully act like them. If you hadn't been that stupid, I would have continued to wallow here in self-pity until you've acquired what you wanted, Sentience!" With these words, the illusion shattered and brought him to a very familiar setting, where his strength lies.
It's the tunnel, the vortex of rings but this time, the only light that shone was above the vortex. There was barely enough light to reach him. The rings had formed cracks. Phantom had then realized what she was about to do. Something shattered and with its destruction came a slight distortion in space and headaches. His mask broke and Phantom was no more as memories started to come and go. They would be lost for eternity.
"What are you-", he shouted into the vortex but was cut short by debilitating headaches.
"This is the mission they had tasked me to carry out. If I can't retrieve the authorities and the keys you hold, I should destroy them all. I don't want my owner to get whatever she needs to become more powerful. In the end... giving her more power just creates more victims. Allowing you to keep that power just creates more victims. It's a win-win situation for me and you made it a lot easier by linking your spirit with your disk. If it hadn't been for your fragile mind, I wouldn't have been able to pull it off and remained a slave for eternity," she said. "At least you'll be cleared of all sin by forgetting everything and becoming the person you once were."
The infinite domain within his disk was falling apart and grew more and more chaotic. Rifts formed and swallowed gadgets and memories whole only to close up and vanish forever. A storm ravaged the realm and threw the broken disks into every direction as they crumbled apart. Phantom could grasp a few memories and absorb them and a gun.
His wisdom was no more.
His knowledge was no more.
His memories were no mere.
His personality was no more.
Before he could be crushed under the remains of a disk, a thread broke into his domain and pulled him out while two blades were heard clashing.

The Limits of Limitless
Author's Note: So, new author here, nice to meet you from this lovely one sided conversation lol. I was so tired of waiting for the perfect story for me so I decided to write a few of my own. These are basically just to make me happy, but if you enjoy them too that would make me happy as well lol. ______________________________________________________________________________________ So once upon a time, there was a convienent, and slightly cliche, plot device used by a somewhat lazy author.... Which in turn, created an easily made story of how a lucky high schooler posing as a hardcore gamer dies only to resurrect in a fantasy reality, meeting beautiful women, powerful dragons and ancient beings, an assortment of insanely escentric fellows, and a certain over powered ring. Journey with them as they explore the wilderness of twisted imagination. Or for you old timey folk who like their synopsis a bit tame, here you go: Jason, a senor in highschool, is slowly failing school due to not giving a fuck. Like many people now in the year 3056, he is obsessed with the wonderful invention most lovingly called, 'True Virtual Realities'. now by using his obsession with his favorite Virtual Reality game called 'Reality Controlled', which is the first and so called best Virtual Reality ever made. it was basically the all around escape humanity wished for, and he with heaven defying luck came across one of the three cheat items the game developers left for themselves: The Limitless Ring. The ring was a support type item and had the ability to grant wishes, store worlds, clone items, grant skills and easily learn abilities. But those are just a few of the things it could do. Using the ring he successfully became the "best player" and had a herd of fans following him everywhere. It was a dream come true. Until, he was killed from a power surge that fried his brain which was hooked up to the Nerve Capsule, an unsafe prototype of the Dive gear that he bought do to low funds. The end. Or so you would think.... ______________________________________________________________________________________ Author's Note: I was, to be honest, wanting to do a collab, because to me it is sooooooo incredibly boring to write by yourself since you always know what happens next, however no one enjoys a bit of friendly cooperation *sigh* so I'm forced to journey these roads alone.... 'Tis but a sad fate tha' 'is here young'un has t' bear. The cover isn't mine, all rights and stuff goes to its artist and such.

Fall of Jupiter
What happens when the most powerful man in the world loses his soulmate to a heart attack? What happens when an innocent woman is dragged into a world of magic, and superheroes? Who is the true hero of the story? Note: This is the first book I ever wrote seriously. (I even had a cover made before I decided against publishing it) I'd like to think my writing style has improved with practice, and the multiple other books I've worked on. It felt wrong to leave a nearly completed book gathering dust in my google docs, but I don't think it's good enough to be officially published. As a result, I'm putting it here instead where it at least won't be totally wasted. Eventually, I'll put in the last 10 hours or so to finish it for you guys. Hope you like it :)

The Kodoku Game
In Japanese folklore, there once existed an ancient technique among alchemists for harvesting the strongest poison known to man. A poison so vicious, so horrendous, that a single drop could incapacitate an entire nation of humans, several times over. A poison so intense that a single drop could turn the tides of a war on its head. As potent as it appeared however, this poison could be harvested from the blood of a single insect alone- an insect the alchemist’s called the ‘Kodoku’. As lucrative as was attaining this poison however, the problem lied in identifying this insect- its appearance, shape and size changed from region to region and from continent to continent. Sometimes it took the appearance of a ladybug and other times a horned-beetle. In order to determine the identity of this special insect the alchemists came up with an ingenious method. They created an impregnable jar of clay out of the best sandstone they could find and placed hundreds of different insects into the same jar. The jar was made with such great mastery that it allowed no insects to escape and allowed no objects to enter. The laws of nature dictated that the insects would remain together in the jar forever. However, it turned out that as time went on, the insects’ hunger for food and power caused them to turn against each other- one insect ate another until only one remained. This sole insect contained a poison that far surpassed that of all the others and became stronger as it ate more and more insects. The alchemists at this point had succeeded in identifying the Kodoku and could extract it’s poison as long as they continued to feed it regularly. Although this folklore ends here, the actual story does not. One day, as the alchemists cheered in joy of having identified the Kodoku they so eagerly wanted, they forgot to close the lid on the very jar that was considered to be completely impregnable. This small gap was just large enough for the Kodoku inside to crawl out. Famished from not having been fed for weeks, the Kodoku ended up eating the very alchemists that nourished its growth until not even the bones remained. Yet, the Kodoku’s hunger didn’t seem to subside in the slightest. So it traveled to the next village and began eating whatever it could find there. Its poison made it unparalleled in strength and slowly but surely it began to dwindle down the population of the entire city. Yet its hunger only continued to grow. So it traveled to the next city over and ate all it could there. Very soon, the Kodoku couldn’t find any more food to eat. There was no one left to eat and no one left to spectate. So it stood there, by itself pondering what possibly was left to eat that could satiate its hunger. But there was one thing left that Kodoku realized it had never eaten. Itself.
