《Path of Salvation》Chapter 035: Liam

"So this is Liam! We'll take good care of him, right?", said Alpha. Introducing him on Elena's behalf and also taking him in even though he has no right to decide whether or not anyone else gets to live there, he blindly made these decisions.
Franky and Emma were taken by surprise and seriously questioning what got into Alpha's mind. But with the respect he held for Harpocrates and every other veteran Dream Catcher, he believes that this is repayment for Liam saving Elena when he could have just left her behind.
"You can't just take her! Elena isn't even awake and can't approve of it!", said Emma.
"Yeah. What if that pisses her off and she kicks him out? He'll be without anyone-"
"Then you can-"
"I have two guests right now and I doubt Ben can take a third fishy individual. That's just rude and disrespectful to him." For once, Franky talked about respecting that big brother of his. Though Alpha could have made fun of that, he believes that he should refrain from doing so as it may jeopardize his cause.
However, Prometheia approved of Liam. She stated, "He seems nice so why not? Elena likely would approve and since Alpha is here to take care of him, there should be no problem, right?"
Liam remained quiet as he himself was unsure of what he should say. Simply nodding out of the blue as he didn't really listen to the conversation, the others looked at him questioning why exactly he did that. Unbothered, they carried on with the conversation they were having.
"I guess... But you know, you'll have to be around him at all times, right?", Franky said. "He's pretty helpless right now and more like a newborn child rather than a teen."
"There's also rent and utilities. Ben can't come in every day to cook food for us. He also his private life, you know!", said Emma.
"Then there's also training. He probably forgot what his abilities are. Hell, we don't really know either and have to go off what Harpocrates told us."
A bunch of responsibilities... Still, Hyperion wanted to shoulder it all and make sure that his new companion had someone looking after him. As Elena had been doing her best training him and dealing with all the other things she usually deals with, he wants to make it up to her by doing the same things. Even if it may take a while, he'll surely get by.
"Emma... You couldn't possibly have any money you're not in need of... like right now?", he asked. Elena's bills would come up soon and while she is still asleep, someone must pay for them.
"Don't you have like 1k saved up? Shouldn't that cover this and next month?"
"It only covers rent... Public transport, clothing, food... He'll need those as well!", Alpha replied. Noting that Phantom never wore anything other than what he would as a Dream Catcher, he desperately needed more clothes as having one set of an outfit wasn't sufficient. Especially with the way Harpocrates simply bought him just one more set so that he can alternate between the two was troublesome.
"I can cover these things," claimed Franky. "You know that my parents are loaded so there's nothing to worry about, right?"
For now that situation would be dealt with. Prometheia transformed into her human form taking Liam by surprise.
"It's human?!", he shrieked as he backed away.
"Don't mind it. Also, what are you afraid of? She doesn't bite...usually."

The five of them headed into the city. Liam was awfully dressed for such a warm day. Reeking of sweat, Alpha wasn't sure whether anyone would allow him to try any clothes and as such they made a trip towards a drug store. Deodarant was first on the list of priorities to quell that smell of his as is sunscreen.
"Should we take one of the more feminine ones?", asked Alpha.
"Who cares? Just take anything that smells good." Franky himself didn't really care that much about what kind of deodarant he buys. Meanwhile, Emma and Prometheia were taking selfies outside of the store. Liam quietly stood by trying not to bring attention to himself.
"Look out!", Franky said as he grabbed a couple of bottles falling off the shelves. With Liam foolishly leaning onto them, Franky had to drag him away to make sure he doesn't cause chaos. It's as if all common sense died with his memories.
Dragging him by the arm, they two of them left the store as Alpha bought deodarant and perfume.
Instantly after leaving, he simply sprayed Liam until he was satisfied. Moving on and nearly blinding Liam, they went straight for the cheapest clothing shop. With lots of offbrand outfits with a bunch of mismatched colors, Alpha reluctantly entered the shop with Liam as the others decided on buying cold drinks for the five of them.
Greeted by just one clerk hanging out on that phone of hers, the shop was rather empty. Though rather dull and bland, the shirts weren't that bad while Liam had no opinion of his own. With the lack of input from Liam, Alpha forced him to speak up.
"What colors do you like?", asked Alpha.
"I guess... purple. Maybe gray?" Still, he wouldn't move away from Alpha and simply stare.
"Well then... Pick something!", Alpha said rather aggressive sounding.
Liam did as told and randomly picked out things that may look good on him. The one thing he took interest in was a purple button up shirt with a pink bunny on it. The other thing that greatly interested him was another animal-themed shirt, and a bunch of shorts with the same themes. For some reason those are the only things he resonated with.
Though Alpha didn't like them or the way they looked on him, he let them be bought with Franky's credit card. Promising to one day buy him something higher quality, he just thought of gifting Liam his very own clothes for now as they're around the same height.
They thought about getting him another haircut but Emma dissuated them from doing so as she wanted to cut them herself. With a mother that works at a hairsalon and her regularly helping without a license, she believes that she can do well. Unsure, Alpha still went ahead as Emma seemed to be looking forward to it as Liam remained indifferent.
"We're done with the basics and we can order something later for dinner. What should we do now?", Alpha asked.
"Well... Ben is expecting me to be back home for dinner at 7. So I'll have to leave in an hour," said Franky.
"I kinda have to leave right now. My mom needs me back home. Sorry!", claimed Emma.
"I kinda have to meet Hellfire at 8 outside of town. So I guess that I'll have to get going soon. The two of you will be fine alone, right?" Even Prometheia was busy for the evening. As such, the five of them parted ways as Alpha and Liam returned to the apartment. Before spending time with Liam, he had to make a quick trip back home.

Returning with two suitcases, two plastic bags, and two backpacks, Alpha decided to run away from home and temporarily move into Elena's. It was strange and sudden but that moment would have come either way. It's running to Elena or wandering on the streets. He even had copies of important documents like his birth certificate.
"Ok. I think I'm done here!", he said.
As Liam had nowhere else he wanted to be as of now and didn't know how to operate anything other than the toilet and the sink, he simply sat on the couch as Alpha unpacked his things and simply moved in. As it hadn't been too late, they decided to order pizza. Liam didn't know how to feel and Alpha didn't know what to say about all this.
"Hey... How are you feeling?", said Alpha trying to break the silence.
Liam was unsure. He didn't know what to answer or how he should feel. He simply was confused wherever he went. Believing that meeting Elena again and talking to her may give him the answers he needs, he wondered if he could have done more. The only memories he has is Elena protecting him from Sentience and him waking up to carry her out of a strange world.
"I... don't know. Everything just feels different and foreign. I don't know how to talk to people. I don't know how to handle myself. I don't know how to stop being a burden. Maybe I-"
"You're not a burden at all! Having you here is not a burden. I agreed to help you and want to keep on helping you because I want you here, right?", Alpha said.
"At least you're not an intrusive burden," he thought.
"Let's just start off with watching something on TV, alright?"
The concept of a TV was a foreign concept. He didn't know how to deal with them or how to use them. Surprisingly, Franky had an extra console he wasn't using. That PS4 of his was collecting dust and therefore not needed. With another console at hand, he simply demanded that Alpha treat it with care.
"TV?"
"It's better explained by just showing how you how these things operate. Sit tight, okay!"
Watching Alpha hook up the Play Station with Elena's TV, he hoped that Elena wouldn't mind him messing around with Elena's setup. Franky even gave them two controllers and intends to bring more when he gets the oppurtunity to. Logging in under Aponia, Franky's account, he went right ahead and opened one of the many subcription-based services Franky owns. Liam stared at the screen in awe. Everything was ready.
With chips, two bottles of juice, and a tub of ice cream for the both of them, they decided to watch a thriller that wasn't really that good but good enough for a person that had no recollection of anything and a person that barely watched any movies. Lots of suspense and dramatic moments for a film about espionage that were unnecessary ending in a cliche kiss... But it was a great movie according to the two of them.
The night continued with sudden banter and fun. Just like that, they had grown accustomed to each other and fell asleep right next to each other. With Alpha slobbering all over Liam's shoulder, there was a massive wet spot nearly running down his shirt. Prometheia let them sleep in. These past few weeks have been hectic for the rookies as all of them were dealing with dozens of Demons. Going as far as slaying 65 Demons in just three weeks, they've faced a record high. No rookie should have to deal with so many at once yet they had to endure as no one else could jump in when they were in peril.
At 11am, Alpha finally awoke from his slumber. Deciding that he should make a meal for the two of them, he started making fried rice with a side of scrambled eggs. Liam awoke to the smell of slightly burned food made by a person that barely can cook. A third plate was left out for Prometheia even if there's no need to eat for Zs. She was too human to exclude her.
Starting the day off slow, the both of them decided to watch the news together. Realizing that the two lacked tooth brushes, they neglected brushing their own teeth. There's also barely any shampoo, face wash, or whatever else Elena would use left meaning that they'd also have to get that. They also forgot buying underwear for Liam so going on another shopping spree may not be such a bad idea. However, he could go commando for a day as there should be no problem to that but it was a warm summer day with not so cold summer nights so maybe Alpha will need another refill of deoderant to get by.
The day was rather relaxing and therefore great. Starting off, Alpha decided to introduce the few games Alpha knows how to play to Liam. Starting off with Uno, he used that ignorance Liam held to gain an advantage. Shortly after would follow Monopoly, something Liam grasped a lot faster than Alpha had expected. Humiliated by someone who barely can keep his focus for five minutes and can't remember a thing, Alpha resigned from the games that could be played in person. He'd move on to video games, something that interested Liam far more than simple board games he could beat Alpha in with no practice.
Deciding to play an open world rpg game, he revealed just how much time can be spent online and how grand the gaming world is. Walking around, fighting enemies, interacting with NPCs and discovering beautiful sceneries... Scenery and music was something Liam spent the most time on. Just discovering how big a virtual world can be and how it is manmade baffled him. Lots of time was spent taking photos ingame. The visuals the fallen civilizations gave off were alluring as he found his interest in exploring.
"Can we go to such places one day? I want to visit such ruins again!", he asked expecting the two of them to go on a grand adventure.
"I don't think so... But maybe there's a way?", Alpha replied wondering whether or not he'll ever get to truly explore and wander wherever he'd want to. Then came a realization: What did Liam mean with again?"
"Again?", he asked.
"Have I not been to one of these places? Am I remembering wrong, or..."
"No no, I think you're remembering perfectly fine! This game must have reminded you of a past memory!", Alpha exclaimed. "But we don't have any ruins that resemble the ones in this game..."
Floating leftovers of ancient cities defying gravity... All of them slowly heading towards their destruction as a crack in space seemingly will devour them all... It was a sad yet magnificent sight.
"Was that Walpurgis?", he asked himself. Liam seems to be lost in thought. As his thoughts went haywire, so did his magic. Time slowed down.
"Liam?"
Space starting cracking apart. With cosmic cracks filling the entire room, the air became thin. Starting to suck in objects, the portal to a vacuum opened up trying to devour the entirety of this room.
"Ana?", Liam asked himself. Still going haywire Alpha called out to him. Even his eyes adopted the pretty images of the cosmic void while Liam himself drowned out all noise.
A slap sent him back to reality. Gravity returned to normal as objects fell and broke apart. The table made of glass shattered as everything returned to normal. Alpha just stared at Liam in awe as Liam tried to figure out what he should do.
"I guess that's enough video games for today...", Alpha said as he turned off the TV.
"I'm sorry," said Liam. However, Alpha did not listen and quickly got to cleaning up glass shards only to leave shortly after. Not one word was spoken until he left leaving Liam sad, afraid, and confused.
