Chapter 22
Huants, ghasts, and other torturous monstrosities of the dark frivol and frolic in delight as they skamper around the dark expanse waiting for their next opportunity to haunt me. Faces of loved ones appear and disappear all throughout the area, terrifying me. Their mouths open revealing nothing but the darkness behind them, but their voices travel to me even without vocal chords
“Why did you abandon us?”
“Why did you let us go?”
“We just wanted to have fun!”
“Our lives are ruined because of you!”
The faces change quickly between a few I recognize, but it always seems to retain the same horrid voice.
“Tell us! Tell us!” the voice encourages me to speak. I know that it won't listen though, the voice will merely blame me for it all over again, it cares not of my excuses, only that I failed in saving him. That i stood in shock as it all happened. I begin to cry tears and sob uncontrollably as the voice encourages me. I will be forever scarred and tormented of this memory. Not as it a horror, or of any possible fear it could possibly bring me. But because it is the inner thoughts of my psyche and subconscious.
Then the face screams in agony as its pulled into the darkness once more, as if it is falling down a cliff surrounded by hot magma cooking it alive.
Jolting awake from the scream being all too vivid. I find my face hot sticky and a tad bit wet i touch it to make sure. Yup i was crying once more in my sleep. I may need to see a doctor or something over this. I don't know any cure for this trauma. I pull myself from my bed to look into the mirror hanging by my bedside. I see my blond disheveled hair and a scattering look in my eyes. They reflect horror and disgust at myself. I could have told him to stop, I could have told him what I saw.

“Im sorry sam” i say to myself. I don't think I could ever truly recover from that night. A black mass of something appear behind sam, it took an oval shape and looked dark and smooth almost like tar. It simply spawned in behind him and swallowed him whole. And just as quickly as it appeared it disappeared taking sam with it i remember seeing sam go through a face of agony as he touched it. All i could do after that was scream his name. The police said i was hysterical and that I needed to calm down because I wasn't making any sense. Sense be damned. I knew what I saw and it didn't make any. But it was true that sam was missing, the missing person file they had on him was evidence enough. What was scary was that sam wasn't even the only one that had disappeared and more stories like the one i said to the police started cropping up all around the world. The press at one point came to me for an interview because apparently i was one of the few that knew the person that disappeared and was around myself to tell. Apparently most people that disappeared, were alone or disappeared in groups together. So not a whole lot of people knew who all disappeared. Obviously this caused panic among the citizens, am i going to be next? Most of them thought. But only time would tell. There wasn't any specific people that disappeared they just did at completely random. Well not quite at random but who was random, everyone who disappeared apparently did so at the same time. Since then, people have been seeing what they call “rifts in reality” appear at said places they disappeared. I guess everyone else is lucky, because most of the places were quarantined off after people disappeared. Nobody really knows what is going on.

Turning on the radio to see if they had any information on what was going on, while I also checked the newspaper headlines. On the radio they briefly went over the weather and what day it was among some other unimportant information. It has been 3 months since sam disappeared i hope he is alright. Just as I was about to turn of the radio I heard a major report was coming in.
“Am i hearing this correctly?” the radio director said away from the mic but still audible to the audience.
“Yes sir” a female voice came through.
“Okay… alright good folks i know some of you have heard about these, ‘rifts’ that have been popping up all over the world. Our scientists say that they have apparently ‘stabilized’ and that we should experience more information about this soon.”
“Sir your forgetting-”
“And remember folks dont go near em… even if the ‘rifts’ have stabilized they are not safe and we still don't know all of what they do or what not…”
Nodding my head injustice at what i hear i knew that sam could be one step closer to being found with that information. Don't worry sam your brother jack’s going to make sure your alright.

So I'm a cat, what now?
It seems I've reincarnated into a fantasy world as a cat. What now? This is my first publically published story, and I would love feedback in any form as I have no idea how well the quality of my writing holds up. This story will have light litRPG elements, though I won't dig into numbers much, since I don't enjoy fiddling with them. The tone will be generally light, and I willl probably try to throw some comedy in there as well. The beginning will be Slice of Life, and unless I come up with a longer plot that I like it will stay that way.
