《The Novel's Unifier》Chapter 9 - The Immortal (2)

"You are different, from what I've heard," Leo said, sipping on some water. He was using a teacup, without any embroidery. That was quite rare in the Academy, but that was Leo's style.
"People change," Danny replied, nervously fidgeting with his hands.
Leo laughed, politely. "True that. Anyway, I truly thank you for staying with us," he said, tilting his body.
"Thanking me? For what?" Danny thought about what he had done. Or maybe it was August that had done something.
"For staying with us, of course. Really, that Imperial Family is awful." He stared at Danny, not including an expected bit. "Now, you must have questions. I'll answer a question, free of charge, just this once. The Tachi you were found with has been taken, for research purposes. But don't worry, you'll get it back before the Term ends."
Danny hadn't even realised it was taken. But, since it was brought up, he did remember some weird things that he put onto his injury. Yesterday, when he reached for some food, he had missed the plate entirely. "Could I have it back sooner?" Danny asked. As he expected, Leo shook his head.
"When the Research Team gets their hands on something, well..." He let the rest hang in the air. "But, you can visit to see what's happening."
Danny shook his head, as he wanted something else. "Can I have a tour?" Leo seemed taken aback, but quickly regained his composure. Leo nodded.
"Then, if it's alright, we can do it now," he said, downing the rest of his drink. Then, he stood up. "Follow me."
Danny noticed that Arthur was trying to hide himself, which he didn't want. So he grabbed his collar, saying, "You're coming with us. No arguing."

"But-" Arthur's complaints were silenced by a glare.
Leo had taken them around the Campus, explaining what they were, what they did, and some simple history behind each. "This is the Library," he said, as he gestured to the massive building in front of them. It had pillars holding it up, along with steps that led to the entrance. The entrance was a simple double door, fitted with glass and different engravings. "As you can tell, this place contains all of the knowledge gained by the Academy."
"Why did I go with you?" Arthur complained, limping lifelessly. 'Honestly,' Danny thought, 'you could just run away.' Neither of the two could stop him, and one probably wouldn't even try.
"Because you don't know where anything is, either," Danny replied, lifting him by the shoulders.
Ignoring our conversation, Leo explained the history of the Library. "The Library was founded by a Sage, many centuries ago, who is said to still be living. Though most think he's dead. The Sage's name is Lideo Alexander. Inside, there are books about cooking, weapon skills, history, and many other subjects. It is quite an important building, as you will be studying many hours a day for most tests."
Lideo Alexander was still alive, though he was right under everyone's noses. Danny didn't say anything, though, as he kept listening to Leo rant. Instead, he tried to remember all of the building's he had already seen: The Main Buildings, where classes were held, the Training Field, Training Centre, Shooting Range, Bathrooms, Faculty Office, Student Dormitories. Even with all of those, he felt like he was missing some.
The Academy was massive, much too large to really exist. That's why it was in a Space Enlargement Field, which made space bigger. The theory, or idea, was only used as an excuse, Danny was sure. The Author surely couldn't explain why it was so big, so they came up with that excuse. It soured Danny's mood.

The Author was a complete coward, that much he was sure of. Danny felt like he could continue thinking about such things for several hours, but stopped himself. He had more important things to do. It seemed Leo was done.
"Now, this concludes the tour," he said, pushing up his circular glasses.
"Thank you," Danny and Arthur bowed, though Danny bowed much deeper, as they said in unison.
Leo smiled, seemingly tired. "If you need me, come to the Faculty Office." Danny nodded, though Arthur kept silent. Leo then walked away, clasping his hands behind his back.
Without wasting any more time, Danny brought Arthur into the Library.
Finding the Librarian, who wore a grey vest and had white hair, Danny asked, "Do you know where [Two Slashes] are?"
"No," came the Librarian's answer. She had a deep, gravelly voice, that seemed to hate the pair. "If you're looking for Weapon Skills, then they're over there." She pointed at a bookshelf, sneering at the two.
"Actually," Danny said, stopping her from ignoring him, "I'm looking for the Fairytale section."
The Librarian grinned, which seemed painful for her, as she grimaced after. "Finally, some smart kids," she sighed. "They're in the other direction." She pointed opposite the area she last pointed at, then continued, "Up on the fourth floor."
Despite the Library looking like, at most, a two-storey building, it was actually much more than that.
Danny wasn't really going for the Fairytale section, but it was the thing best for Arthur, at this stage.
But not yet. Partially because he didn't want to climb four stories of stairs, but mostly because he would have enough reason to go later.
"Alright, let's go back," Danny said, turning around.
"Is it time for us to go back?" Arthur asked, almost sobbing. "I have so many games to play."
"You're bad at all of them," Danny replied, not really caring about his feelings.

It’s incendiary stuff—and if Masha goes missing, Marcus is supposed to release it to the world. Then Marcus sees Masha being kidnapped by the same government agents who detained and tortured Marcus years earlier.Marcus can leak the archive Masha gave him—but he can’t admit to being the leaker, because that will cost his employer the election. He’s surrounded by friends who remember what he did a few years ago and regard him as a hacker hero. He can’t even attend a demonstration without being dragged onstage and handed a mike. He’s not at all sure that just dumping the archive onto the Internet, before he’s gone through its millions of words, is the right thing to do.Meanwhile, people are beginning to shadow him, people who look like they’re used to inflicting pain until they get the answers they want. Fast-moving, passionate, and as current as next week, Homeland is every bit the equal of Little Brother—a paean to activism, to courage, to the drive to make the world a better place.
