《Vampire's Beginnings》Chapter Twenty-seven

One month went by since Derik and I first slept together. One month and he hasn't touched me like that ever again. I didn't let him because I was trying to find ways to end our relationship. There were no feelings for him and it wasn't right to hold on. To continue finding excuses on why I should stay with him in the first place. It wasn't fair to either of us.
Also during this past month, the fighting started up again. I think Derik had a feeling about what I was planning to do. Or, it could be because of the fact that I now sleep on the couch and not with him. It's all just been a mess that caused me frequent headaches. Today, I sat at the kitchen table eating crackers because my stomach rejects everything else I try to eat. At least things that have a smell to them.
For the past few days I was starting to wonder why I didn't listen to Jake in the first place. He warned me about the manipulating and I was stupid to fall for it. I knew he was doing it, but I excused it as insecurity. But I was done with it all. I just wanted my normal life back.
Jake suddenly came through the back door as if he knew he just crossed my mind. A look of concern was on his face as he sat across from me at the table, "You don't look too good."
"I don't feel good," I told him as I closed the crackers and got up to put them away. Feeling his eyes studying me, "I can't even eat without feeling nauseous."
"Is that why you are starting to look a little bloated? I hear that happens if you don't eat for a while because your body is storing the food you do eat," Jake pointed out.
"You calling me fat?" Saying as if I was offended but the smile on my face said otherwise. I learned long ago that Jake likes to say whatever is on his mind. There was no holding back for him.
"I'm just saying that you got a little puffy in the middle," he responded as he motioned to his stomach. Just in case I didn't understand what he was saying. My glare at him said otherwise.
Jake opened his mouth to add to what he said, but he got interrupted by David walking in the back door. I was surprised when he walked right up to Jake, grabbed him by the arm, and then placed him out the back door. Closing it behind him. The forwardness was a surprise to me, but with him being the head of the royal guard, it was understandable.

"I'm sure if you just asked him to leave, he would have," I pointed out to him. Not impressed with his behavior, "The way you just acted was a bit rude."
"Is Derik here?" he asked as he headed for the stairs.
"No. He stormed out about an hour ago," I responded. Still a little upset for how he treated Jake.
He then gave a demand as he headed for the stairs, "Upstairs. Now."
My mouth dropped open. David never talked to me like that. But the anger that dripped from his tone made it feel like it was directed at me. I didn't following him because he told me to. I followed him because I was about ready to give him a piece of my mind.
Stomping up the stairs, I found him in the bathroom setting up something in the bathroom. His behavior shocked me so much that I didn't even noticed that he had a bag full of stuff with him. The need to question him what was going on was really strong. But before I got the chance, he handed me a small plastic cup that was obviously the same one they used at the hospital for urine tests.
"Fill it and then knock when you are done," he ordered. Then pulled me into the bathroom and closed the door behind him as he left. I stood there staring at the door, completely stunned about what all was going on. Starting to wonder what had gotten into him all of a sudden.
To avoid an argument with him while he was in this mood, I did what I was supposed to. David entered the bathroom with Gabby behind him. She wore her lab coat open to reveal a black dress pants and a light blue button up shirt. Her dark brown hair was tied up low, making her thick framed glasses the main focus on her face. Gabby looked like the scientists I was sure she was in her medical field.
She smiled at me as she grabbed some things from the counter while David grabbed a box. I knew what it was the moment I saw it, "Why do you have a pregnancy test?"
"Because you are making me feel like crap," he said as he dipped the now open test into the filled cup.
"Is that even going to work?" I asked as Gabby prepared my arm to gather a tube of blood. But no one answered me as they wrapped up what they were doing.

Handing the vial to David, Gabby removed the needle from my arm and placed a gauze over where it was, "Bend your arm and keep pressure on it for a few minutes."
David then dismissed Gabby just as coldly as he was treating everyone else. I watched as he performed some sort of test on my blood. It was actually amazing to see that he knew such a thing. Making me more curious about him.
"How did you learn to do all of this?" I heard myself ask.
"I help Doc when Gabby can't," he answered, "Now shut up. I'm mad at you."
A small smile played on my lips as I watched him work. He picked up the pregnancy test, looked at it, and then threw it in the garbage. I gave him a curious look. "It's negative," he responded as he continued with the blood test.
"So I'm not pregnant," I said, hoping it was true.
"Not quite. You might not be long enough for a store bought test to detect. Its the reason why Gabby took your blood. Doc created a test that can detect pregnancy much sooner," he answered before he inspected the said test, "Shit."
Hearing the tone he used to say that one word didn't sit well with me, "Please tell me that you messed up the test."
He gave my a sympathetic look, "I wish I could."
David didn't have to say anything more than that. I knew what that test came out as and I had no idea how to feel. My defense mechanism told me to pretend that it wasn't happening. But I can only pretend for so long. There was no choice but to accept it. That was the most scary thing about the situation. There was no redo button for something like this.
He must have seen the panic slowly rising within me, as he pulled me into his arms. But that was the last place I wanted to be at the moment. Pushing him away angrily, I lashed out, "You said that this wasn't possible unless I was with my soulmate. Or, was that just some lie to make me choose you instead?"
David reached out for me but I only swatted him away, "I didn't lie. It's because Gene V isn't activated in your DNA. You are still considered normal and can still get pregnant with out the help of your soulmate."
Not wanting to hear him anymore, I constantly tried to push him out of the bathroom. The whole entire time, he was trying to get close to me. Trying to explain things and comfort me. But I was angry. Not at him, but mostly at myself. This was something I should have put into consideration before it was too late. Now I was trapped.
Eventually, David finally had me in his arms as a crying mess. It was a mixture of tears that were falling from my eyes. Tears of frustration, anger, panic, and most of all, fear. I was terrified because this was something completely unknown to me. The fear of suddenly realizing I was going to be a parent and I had no idea what I was going to do.
"Please don't tell anyone," I begged as soon as I calmed down.
"Not even Derik?" he asked.
"He's the last person I want to know," I mentioned.
It was the truth. Derik would see this as an opportunity to manipulate me into staying with him more. That was the last thing I wanted since I had already decided to leave him. I just had to try my best to make sure that he never found out about it. It wasn't going to be easy but it had to be done.
The suddenly sound of footsteps pounding up the stairs had me almost panicking. Thinking it was Derik. But the sight of Mike made me relax until I saw the look on his face. Pulling away from David a little bit, knowing that something was wrong.
"What is wrong, Mike?" I asked him. Scared to hear what his answer would be.
But Mike didn't answer me as he made eye contact with David. Panic still in his eyes as he said the one thing that made my stomach drop, "It's Jack. Donny's followers attacked him."
"How bad is it?" David asked. His grip on me tightened, making me flinch a little bit from the pain.
Mike hesitated before he finally answered the question, "Doc says that it doesn't look good."

Parallels
Parallels are a constant in life. Our friends' lives often run parallel to ours; we share similar experiences or tastes- perhaps even both. Sometimes, however, opposites attract- and our lives run perpendicular. In that case, we are not attracted by similarities; rather, we are attracted to the differences in others. So, what happens when two parallels are broken apart? What might happen to them? Are they forever doomed to run alongside each other, never seeing one another, never meeting? Or, perhaps, might they be spun about? Could these lines that formerly ran alongside one another meet? Could they possibly be set perpendicular? Any feedback is welcome, so long as it is constructive. Also, you may not use any characters, ideas, places, or what have you that I present here without my explicit permission. A note: This is a story which I began over a year ago, but never got around to finishing- it feels about time to really get it going. Now, there are a couple of things about the story, and myself, that need to be said. First and foremost, there's a slow start, but by the third-fourth chapter things should be speeding up a bit. Secondly, in regards to release speed and/or word count per chapter, I make no promises- my schedule is fairly random, and in regards to word count, I will cut off any chapter at any point that feels appropriate to me- that may include cliffhangers, if necessary. I'm not trying to reach a specific word count, I am trying to create a cohesive story, with pseudo-appropriate chapter breaks. This means I will also not rush a half-baked release for the sake of getting a release out. Thirdly, I will make any edits, anywhere in the story and at any time, that strike me as necessary- typically being wording and/or formatting changes, but I may also decide to change major plot points- in that case I would put a notification in the next chapter released. Finally, and most importantly, I am a Christian; this story is intended to at least moderately reflect those values. So, if you particularly dislike any of these things, feel free to look elsewhere, and don't let the door hit you on the way out. God bless, friends.
