《Cursed child》Cursed child: chapter 13

I awoke at my usual time of six and tried to immediately tiptoed down to get some food, upon entering my room again I smiled happily and smiled at Shin who was still coiled around my bed in his true form. Moving as quietly as I could I heard Shin's voice ring out "Morning Rai, you excited for the festival?"
I looked at Shin with an ill cocealed grin on my face "yes I'm excited, though I still need to come up with an excuse to tell the director." Shin looked at me in confusion "who's the director? And why haven't I seen them before now?"
"Well the directors technically the one in charge of us, but he's really busy so he doesn't come out of his office much but we have to inform him if we're staying anywhere else overnight." Shin nodded to this "Why don't you just tell him your staying with a friend?"
I smiled sadly "before you came I didn't really have any friends, to everyone else I was either a freak, a weirdo or a liar." Seeing how sad I was Shin dropped the topic of friends and nodded silently.
"Why don't you pretend your going out there for a work experience interview, there are plenty of temples in the area so it wouldn't look all that suspicious." I considerd the idea and grinned "perfect, that way I can excuse the lack of phones or email so no one will try to contact me!"
Fealing happy with the plan I smiled at Shin "Ok, I'm gonna go talk to the director, you go finish making the preparations." Shin smiled excitedly and nodded. Leaving Shin in my room I quietly walked down to the director's study and gently knocked on the door.

"come in." hearing conformation I walked into the large room and stared at the man behind the large mahogany desk. The man was quite tall though it was hard to tell as he was sitting down, and had pepperd grey hair as well as sharp and relentless eyes.
"So what is it you want Kai?" it took me a moment to respond, I was so unused to my name seeing as most just called me freak and Shin called me Rai or Raikou. Getting my thoughts back together I answered "I would like your permission to go away this weekend for two days of work experience at a temple."
Afew saying this I fell quiet and focused on the directors expression hoping to see if he'd approved or not, unfortunately his face was void of emotions as he stared back at me. After five minutes of staring in silence slowly the director turned to face me once more "Ok however you must be back by Sunday at noon or I will forbid any future outings, clear?"
I nodded feeling slightly relieved "yes director." walking out the room a lot happier than when I walked in I started towards my room again when I ran into Hiiro, Hiiro stared at me smugly "I'll see you tomorrow freak I'm away today, we're going hunting."
Hearing this my blood ran cold, if Hiiro meant what I think he meant than the full moon festival was being searched for and the exorcists were the searchers. Nodding quickly I darted around Hiiro and ran back up to my room to find Shin.
"Shin," I said as soon as the door was closed behind me "it seems like the exorcists are hunting tonight, what do we do?" Shin smiled at my outburst "worry not Raikou, the exorcists always try and search for the festival but they have not found it once in the hundreds of years it has been active."

Sighing in relief I sat on the bed "phew, that really had me worried for a second, so when do we leave?" Shin grinned at me "we leave now." I could only stand still in shock as Shin tossed me ontoo his back and opened up the window before launching himself off the house and "Hold on Rai."
I looked at the near colliding ground and closed my eyes when all of a sudden Shin pulled up and begun flying over the trees I laughed in joy "this is amazing!" smiling gently at my reaction Shin carried on forwards "We'll be there soon, so just enjoy the ride for now." smiling at Shin's words I sat back at relaxed enjoying the scenery looking forward to tonight.

Nero Zero
Monsters plagued the lands for too long. No matter if one had fangs, beak, teeth, skin, fur, or feather, or was tall, stout, or diminutive, the people suffered. Until the Gadgeteers came with a device that could allow people to fight back. Powered by one's own magical power, feeding off of monster Essence, the Arbitrium bracer turned the tables. It also changed society. Strength of one's level cap was all that mattered. The strongest were Kings and Emperors. The weak or those too poor to afford the marvelous device, destitute. And so it has been for millennia. All that mattered was one's level cap. High, low, a fate decided the moment the strange contraption came alive. Too high and you were a threat to those interested in keeping the status quo, a weed to be nipped before it could grow and take root. Too low and you were nobody, fated to be a bit more than a simple farmer. What if someone, somewhere, came up with a zero for their level cap? Unable to use Essence, unable to level up. On all of recorded history, it never happened. Until it did. In a small village of fur-less and tail-less ape-beastkin, a boy found out he was uniquely handicapped. Nero's level cap was Zero. But he'd never let that stop him from reaching his goals. ------------------------------------------------ All stories have already been told. We merely reuse elements from them. From Joseph Campbell's Monomith to Stephen King's advice, and that encyclopedia of tropes you've visited, fiction has been dissected and reassembled countless times. One will surely find elements inspired on other works here. Just like cooking from basic ingredients, the recipe and presentation is what really matter. This is a fantasy adventure, of someone that goes from a zero to a slightly bigger zero. It will have romance but no harem. Cruelty but with hope dimly shining ahead. Lightweight where it can be, heavy where it must. Thanks for reading. Cover Credits (The cover is CC-BY-NC-SA): Steampunk Spider Bracer, by Daniel Proulx. A Mildly Odd Reality Breaker
Omar receives an unexpected visitor who comes baring a gift—a "registration ticket"—in the form of a small metal card. The ticket is itself an offer to participate in the game, "Reality Break." Accepting this offer means that Omar will be able to perceive the true nature of reality where there is not one, but two dimensions of time, and in this second dimension history changes (and somewhat "frequently"). Along with this, he will also gain access to the "chronopause"; another reality that is not so much parallel to our own as it is perpendicular, which acts as both a place and the natural boundary between non-sequential points on the timeline. Using the chronopause, Omar will become a chrononaut with the ability to travel through time, and as a player, he will be given a cybernetic interface and his own portable extradimensional storage space. It's a strange conversation, but due to Omar's dismally short attention span, he only consciously hears that last bit about the portable pocket space, and that's only after the physics-defying void is opened in his living room and literally waved in front of his face. Reality is certainly stranger than most people realize, but then again, so is Omar. Thankfully, he responds well to shiny things, and for better or for worse, his chronic inattentiveness is the least of his psychological issues. Omar also has a mild form of "Oppositional Defiant Disorder" which presents itself as an occasional, arbitrary need to disobey others (especially authority figures). However, his oddest psychological issue by far is his "abnormally hyperactive" subconscious mind. Outwardly and consciously, Omar is a lazy, apathetic man-child prone to mildly asinine behavior. Subconsciously, he's some sort of genius capable of extraordinary feats of cognition. Most of the time, Omar is a (technically) functioning adult, but in order to live as such, he must rely entirely upon unusual abilities he's completely unaware of, despite the fact that he uses them regularly. Up until now, his life had merely been ridiculous, but now it was also a game. Note: The narrative style is that of a reliable narrator with a "3rd-person sarcastic" POV. This story takes place in the Reality Breakers/Chronopause universe.
