《A Vampire's Complications》Chapter Three

For some reason, it took me a while to notice that we were standing right next to a door in the hallway. My observation skills seriously needed to be worked on as I stared at the door. Wondering what was on the other side. Wondering why Ricky and Jack were standing outside of it, waiting for the rest of us to arrive.
"Ricky, do you have the key?" Maria asked as she made her way to the door. Pushing Jack out of the way.
"It's already unlocked," Ricky responded with a heavy sigh. He wasn't liking how demanding Maria was being. It was understandable in a way.
"Perfect," she said as she turned the door handle and entered the room as the door opened. She didn't even bother to wait for any of us to follow.
Eventually, David just directs me to follow Maria before he started to pick up the bags again. The other two don't even enter either as if they were waiting for me to go in first. It's like they are waiting for me to follow Maria into the room. I wasn't sure if it scared me more or if it was just my nerves for what was in the room. Which was kind of silly because I can only guess what the room was. After a deep breath, I walked through the doorway.
Right away I could see that it was a small apartment. To my immediate left were sliding doors that were probably a big closet for coats and shoes. A painting hung on the opposite wall, but I didn't pay much attention to it. Not when my feet carried me into a small apartment fit for a celebrity. I was pretty sure my jaw dropped the moment I walked into the living room area.
The living room was small but big enough to hold a love seat and a small sectional. A flat screen TV rested on top of a cabinet full of books. Across from me and on the other side of the living room where two large french doors. The doors leading out onto a private balcony that had rose bushes scattered around along with park benches. I would do anything to just skip the rest of the tour and head out there to enjoy my favorite flowers.

But Maria emerged from a room only to grab my hand and drag me into another room. The room she dragged me into was a bedroom set up to be a nursery. Dark wood cribs sat on each side, already made and ready for the twins arrival. The room also held a rocking chair that looked really comfy. Everything I ever needed was also scattered through out the room and I'm sure the closet was full of baby clothes as well.
The look on Maria's face was so proud of the room. Giving me the hint that she was the one that worked on this room. I opened my mouth to say something to her, but David came into the room, "Maria, Bo is looking for you."
She rolled her eyes and left the room without saying a word. Pushing her brother out of her way. For some reason this wasn't the Maria I didn't remember from my hometown. But I guess I never saw her enough to actually get to know her.
"Go check out the rest of the apartment," David mentioned to me with a smile on his face. He didn't have to ask me twice as I quickly left the room and went into the next room.
It was obvious that it was my bedroom. The bed was huge with a black headboard with gold accents. It was plain to see that the bedding was new because the comforter looked so full that if I layed on it, I would sink in. It took everything I had to not just jump on and just see how comfortable it was.
My eyes scanned the room and saw a door that made me go investigate where it led. Behind the door was a walk-in closet. Even though it was half the size of the one I had back in my hometown, it was still bigger than I was used to. It was also full of clothes. Some I recognize from the house from my past life.
"We were able to grab some of the clothes before it was announced that you died. After that it would be too obvious and your father will have to figure the rest out," David explained as he walked up next to me.

"Aren't we all efficient," I joked.
"We have to be. Or, we get exposed," he mentioned before leaving the closet. Making me follow closely behind him.
He stopped in the middle of the living room suddenly. Making me run into him because I wasn't paying much attention to where I was going. I was ready to ask him why he suddenly stopped, but the words escaped me as I looked into the eyes of a familiar face.
David's arm went around me possessively as he stared down at the person who decided to let themselves into my room, "Aren't you supposed to still be in the medical ward?"
Out of the shock of seeing him I didn't notice the hospital gown he was wearing. Even the large bandage wrapped around his head escaped my observation. But he didn't look at David, in fact he acted like he wasn't even there. His dark eyes stayed focused on me.
"Leah, can we talk?" Derik asked with exhaustion. His skin was pale and it looked like he used a lot of energy to just come to my room.
"Derik, you need to go back to the medical ward. You can talk to Leah at another time," David explained to him, "You shouldn't be walking around with your head injury."
Letting go of me and leaving my side, David slowly approached Derik and gently placed his hands on Derik's shoulders. The look Derik gave him was a little unsettling. Not because he was upset that David was interfering. It was because he was looking at David like he didn't even know who it was standing in front of him. Like he was suddenly confused on all that was going on.
Without saying anything to me, David walked Derik out of my room. Leaving me to stare at the place where they disappeared into the hallway. It wasn't long until Jack came out of another room and walked up next to me. My eyes trailed to him as he gave me a knowing look.
"He's one of us now. Guilt can do that to you," he said before walking to one of the couches and sat down.
"What is that supposed to mean?" I asked him.
Looking towards the entrance of my apartment, Jack mentioned, "After your accident, Derik went to Donny's hideout. They nearly killed him. I guess he would rather blame someone else other than himself for what happened to you."
"Is that why he has a bandage on his head?" I said.
Jack nodded as he answered, "They practically bashed his skull in before shooting him in the chest. Nearly missed his heart."
Hearing the news shocked me. I had no idea that Derik would do such a thing. Especially over me. As much as I wanted to feel guilty for running away from him and almost dying myself, I just couldn't. It was like our whole relationship was just something I did because everyone told me not to.
Now that I was standing in my own personal apartment in the Seadonna Tower, I began to realize how stupid I really was. All of the excuses I kept making to myself for Derik's behavior and his manipulation was something I never should have fallen for in the first place. But I did and there was no turning the clock back. Instead I just had to deal with the consequences of my actions, and maybe deal with this new life I was going to have to adjust to.

Fragments from the Wildlands
“Your first death is always the hardest.” Miguela was the third-born child of a well-off merchant family and knew from around the time she could speak that her life’s path was already decided. She was to become an Orator, as was Xandran tradition. However, Miguela had an affinity with the magikal arts and somehow found herself studying at the Academy. She did just enough to keep up with her studies but never found the motivation to apply herself and “reach her potential,” as her instructors often said. It was not that Miguela was uninterested in the arts. Rather, she knew her time at the Academy ultimately did not matter. Whenever Miguela returned home, she would become an Orator, and that would be that. Or so she believed until, one day, an opportunity appeared that would change her life. Miguela was offered the chance to join a research team tasked with a mission of the utmost importance to the future of the Five Kingdoms. She could not turn down the prospect of regaining control of her life and finally finding a purpose for herself. Of course, Miguela might soon discover that offers that appear too good to be true are usually fraught with lies. Welcome to Five Kingdoms of Cordizal! Question: What is the Five Kingdoms of Cordizal? I often get asked this type of question about my stories by friends, bloggers, and potential readers. The Five Kingdoms of Cordizal is a high-fantasy epic universe that is the setting for most of my stories. The foundation of the universe is its multicultural, multiracial setting with several sentient races attempting to carve their legacy and survive. The world is fully fleshed out and vibrant with a rich and mysterious history not based on Tolkien mythology. This brings me to magic. To me, magic is an essential part of the fantasy genre, so, of course, there is magic in the Five Kingdoms universe. However, one critical part of the Five Kingdoms universe is that magic is an abundant commodity that is a part of everyday life and not some plot device used to drive the story. In short, the Five Kingdoms universe is the setting of epic fantasy stories with deep characters and world-building. I try to tell as many different types of stories as possible in the universe, and hopefully, you can find something for you in it.

This is a writing exercise so chapters are mostly first drafts, otherwise I'd end up rewriting each chapter for a month or more with no real changes. My goals are a steady output by not using perfectionism as a procrastination method. I've already got laziness and additions to reading/games, I don't need a 3rd reason to procrastinate.][Disclaimer 2: The main character is a more normalized version of me, with 170% less laziness installed, and a few buffs like greater courage. Other things like having a job are partially similar. No other characters are based on real people because most people I know are either too normal to be useful or too fucked in the head to be believable.]
