"Now that you know more or less who not to cross or who might target you later let's tell you how and why it came to be. It is known that hell was not a part of the system and in a way still isn't, i don't know how the system came to be or where the souls come from but what i do know is that our souls are not like the ones cared for in the system, not only about not being able to grow stronger by ourselves but our souls, as i'm sure you've seen, are like marbles, solid...ish and the souls of other beings are like fountains of energy, as you may or may not have seen in your way down here."
"Yeah... saw a bunch of them, when coming, thought there was another kind too..."
"Whatever brought you here right?"
"Yeah, it was like some impenetrable void..."
"Don't worry about that too much, it's above our pay grade. Now the thing is that mortal souls also have some kind of core, different than our's, but still. It radiates energy, but throughout their existence some of that energy is constantly being attached to that core of theirs, it's refined, purer than the stuff that actually comes out, and as they live their lives and experience things, it makes them into who they are, their memories, personality, experiences and quirks, it's a construct made from energy into their own soul using that core as the base, and the system is a construct that regulates that kind of thing somehow, now imagine what a surprise to the system when, as good a day as any other, one of that souls stops emitting energy. It suddenly condenses, turning neutral, and simply manages to exist and gain sapience in a form independent of the system, and that's not all, no, to make itself stronger and gain the energy every soul needs to grow it starts predating the 'tame' souls the system itself feeds off of. As you can imagine it was probably not very happy with that soul so it destroyed it, but that was not the end, if it was we wouldn't be having this conversation, no, more souls keep turning, souls that until then were no different than any other were turning without rhyme or reason, so it keept hunting them, destroying them, now for some reason the way it uses to reincarnate souls just oh so happens to get rid of all the accumulation that soul made in it's last life so it had it's pets spread across worlds and realities to find them, labeling them as evil to the reincarnated, those turned were prosecuted and hated by everyone until they were destroyed. Until, one day, someone turned, not someone normal of course, someone powerful, really powerful, powerful enough that it's pets were not able to get rid of him, one being can't win against a coallition of such power, of course, but it was strong enough, and smart enough, to hide, hide somewhere even the system could not find him or reach him, somewhere outside the limits of the system. Where do you think it was?"

"Somewhere even the system could not reach..." System limit ahead... "Out there? Where the souls reappear after their body dies?"
"DING DING DING! BIG PRIZE FOR THE NAKED ONE!"
"And that one was pride right? He made the pact making and the first pact to allow every turned a place?"
"Nope, he wasn't pride, he was 'hell-bent' on destroying the system and made hell to gather an army with which to march against it. No one knows what happened to him, or at least no one here, all that we know is that he dissapeared, then pride took over, made the first pact, and we were tolerated from then on and sent here."

Midara: Requiem
"When the alternative is extinction, all acts, no matter how heinous, are permitted." The story of a little necromancer who only wants to play with abominations against all that is holy dollies and her horsey, Mister Clackybones. Welcome to the novelization of one script I designed for a video game setting I call Midara (I selected the name of a genus of moths for symbolism purposes, not to be confused with anything else). Once upon a time, I dreamed of the setting being the next Final Fantasy. Long story short: Nope. Requiem itself is meant to be an Open-World RPG which adapts to the choices of the player. This is just one of many, many paths that one might follow in Requiem's gameplay, if it ever becomes a game.
