《Must I Go Out to Survive This?》chapter 22 - Thief

"Did she leave me?"
In a parking lot, Tanaka was standing. He is looking for the truck he was driving some time ago.
The truck that had Yuki in it.
"Could she even turned out to be chased by mutant!"
Tanaka suddenly gasped. He is still trying to keep looking around the parking area while beating up the zombies he passed.
"Absolutely nothing!"
After Tanaka circled that one parking area, he still couldn't find Yuki and the truck. All he could do now is pray and try to look elsewhere.
"She's probably already back at base,"
thought Tanaka in order to avoid panic. He walked slowly towards the boarding house. Walking slowly while thinking hard about other areas Yuki might go to.
The phone rings. The zombies around are approaching.
"Shut up you guys!"
After all, Tanaka killed them easily.
The cellphone that Tanaka was holding displayed a message notification. Message from Yuki's number.
Tanaka with a bit of panic immediately opened the SMS message. He read it quickly.
[Come here soon! |Address|]
A short message accompanied by an address code name. Tanaka copied the code to put into the search field in the GPS app. Dead app, but still keep map data and address code in it.
"This is a convenience store!"
Tanaka noticed that Yuki went to a place near a convenience store. It wasn't a convenience store that Tanaka frequented. However, at least Tanaka recognized the minimarket.
Minimarket that once distributed meat buns for free. Tanaka once came in disguise to get five meat loaves without paying.
Tanaka while carrying his luggage then ran. He, who felt a little panicked and at the same time relieved, wanted to see Yuki's condition immediately.
"Wait for me, Yuki!"
Tanaka made a running motion at a speed that surpassed him who was driving the truck.
The area around was suddenly shady. The cloud covered the sun.
~~~
"Fuuu~ fuu~ fuu~"
In a truck, Yuki tries to whistle very badly. She is now paying attention to the zombies around her.
Great potential danger is all around. However, Yuki tried to remain calm and not allow herself to be consumed by the control of something else.
"Hmmm..."
Yuki looked at the crowd of zombies in front of the lobby. She looked there as she briefly thought about somehow a bad incident that could happen.
[That voice just now was the man with the mutant, hihihi...]
Yuki heard it clearly. The sound of something sped up and broken was heard rather softly. Something else inside her is trying to make Yuki feel worried.
"Tanaka is a strong person. I don't have to worry about him!"
Yuki's reply to something that wasn't real. She tried to strengthen her feelings.
[Can you be that sure after seeing the evidence by yourself that the guy got quite a bit of damage after he fight the Tank Mutant... Oh right, that's the strongest mutant you thought not all along. A mutant that can hurt Tanaka means he is a very strong mutant. You forgot the fact that there were high-level mutants that appeared in some of the news back then!]
Yuki, who wanted to stay calm waiting for Tanaka's return, is interrupted by a voice that she couldn't even refuse. Voices that don't come from outside.
Yuki looked at the crowd of zombies. The sound of a loud object slamming sounded rather softly in the girl's ear. Yuki saw a crowd of zombies outside trying to get into the hospital with the path that Tanaka had taken earlier.
[He got into trouble, Yuki!]
Yuki smiled. She lost control for a moment.
Someone came. He opened the right-hand side of the truck.
Yuki who was in a new state of consciousness was about to take the MP4 on the side.
Two people come in. Both parties were equally shocked. Yuki who brandished her gun and the two strangers who entered were empty-handed.
"Who are you!"
Yuki loudly asked. What she saw is a man with glasses and a girl with a strange package that her hand pulled by the man.
The two strangers raised their hands. The atmosphere became a bit tense.
Yuki who wasn't sure whether they are villians or not still hesitated to pull the trigger. The look in the eyes from behind the man's glasses really confused Yuki.
Something hit the nape of Yuki's neck. She who was supposed to be guarding the truck fell unconscious.
"... Haruka, isn't that too exaggerated!"
The man with the glasses commented. He got in and immediately started the truck.
"She deserves it!"
Haruka, a girl with a ponytail who just made Yuki faint replied.
"Hey, I don't care about that. Let's get going!"
The sound of the small commotion earlier managed to attract the attention of several zombies in the vicinity.
"All right, all of you, lock the door!"
The man with glasses holding the steering wheel. The girl holding the parcel was pulled inside. Both doors are locked.
"Yamada, are you sure you can ride it?"
Haruka asked. She is now making a comfortable position so that three people can sit in one chair.
"I've ridden in my grandfather's truck before. I'm sure I remember some!"
The bespectacled man named Yamada stepped on the gas pedal. He changed the truck's acceleration to the rear to get out to get into the lane.
Now, the truck is moving towards an unknown direction.
"Hey Haruka, are you sure that this girl won't wake up?"
With a fairly slow pace, Yamada focused on driving while trying to see the situation around him.
The girl holding the parcel is still silent in the corner. She felt cramped, but not a word of protest left from her mouth.
By her side, two people who are acquaintances were fighting over a seat.
"I'm sure she won't wake up anytime soon... Akira, get out of the way and just sit down!"
Haruka who was jostling with Akira answered Yamada's question. She then again scrambled for a seat with the man named Akira.
"Akira, you sit down! Haruka is still in pain, so you need to budge!"
Yamada said it firmly. Akira who didn't get a place is now sitting downstairs. He faced Haruka's crotch.
"Do not look!"
"N-no, I didn't see it!"
Haruka tightened her skirt. The high school girl in a ponytail did not want her panties to be seen by others.
Zombies walked outside, passed by a speeding truck. Nothing happened for quite some time.
Haruka sat beside the fainted Yuki. Beneath her, there is Akira who closed his eyes while glancing slightly. He saw a bear pattern.
The pointy-haired man laughed a little.
"Oi Akira, just now you peeked, right!"
Haruka noticed that Akira was always looking at her panties. Akira turned around.
"N-no. I don't see any bear pattern~"
"Damn you-"
"Do not move!"
Just when Akira and Haruka were joking, suddenly the tip of the gun pressed against the side of Haruka's head.
Yuki wakes up.
"Y-You!"
Haruka who paralyzed the girl was shocked. The girl shouldn't be awake for a few hours because of her punch before, Haruka thought.
However, the assumption does not work according to reality.
"Hey you over there! Stop this truck right now!"
Yuki directed her sentence to Yamada. Haruka is currently in a frozen state because of the weapon on the tip of her head. Her life could flied out at any moment if she made any suspicious moves.
"I can't stop here now. Too many zombies!"
Yamada refused. Yuki, who wasn't in the 'negotiate' mood, pressed her gun against Haruka even more.
"I don't care. If you don't stop now... this woman will lose her heartbeat!"
Yuki gave a bluff. Yamada, who is now focused on avoiding roadblocks, could only remain silent. He couldn't make this truck stand still in a circle of zombies.
Haruka is already out of her mind, thinking she would die from a gunshot.
"Just kill me, bitch!"
"What did you said just now!"
Haruka cursed the person who suppressed her. The weapon was pushed even more, the ponytail girl couldn't help but smile with a blank mind.
"Bitch~"
"Damn you-"
"Stop."
Haruka with a blank brain repeated the curse. When Yuki was almost done pulling the trigger, Yamada gave one sentence that could silence the other four.
One word with a regular tone that means to stop something. In accordance with what the four people are doing now.
Yuki froze. Even if she had a gun, she wasn't sure about shooting the girl.
Her anger that had peaked earlier is now at the point where she couldn't let it out. It's the same with Haruka who woke up from her stupid act earlier. Akira and the girl with the package who saw their friend became like that for the first time also couldn't help but to remain silent.
Three seconds passed. There was no movement until someone started to speak.
"Soon there will be a minimarket which is usually deserted due to misplacement. I'll stop there and then it's up to you about what you want... just in one condition... None of my friends will be harmed!"
Yamada broke the atmosphere where he was the one who created the atmosphere. The final sentence which scared Yuki.
Weapons are not a good thing if you don't have control over them. Yuki finally understood that.
Haruka, who knew that the girl with the gun was not moving, intended to attack. However, her body didn't seem to want to follow her brain's orders.
Instinct dominates over frantic thinking.
"Haruka, stay there and don't move!"
Haruka jolted. She now felt sure that her instincts were right. It was Yamada who made her sure of it.
Yamada himself knew that Haruka wanted to make a move which was an act of aggression against the opponent. However, the most important thing for him right now is negotiation.
Yamada already got the attention of the opponent. Now it's just a matter of seeing what the decision is.
Depending on Yuki's decision, something terrible could happen.
"Alright, move over there right now!"
Yuki agreed. She still kept pressing the gun against Haruka as collateral.
Yamada knew that the girl wouldn't fire her bullet at Haruka's head for no apparent reason. He knew neither by instinct nor by any other apparently scientific thing.
He has faith.
A few hundred yards the truck walked. Fewer zombies are attracted.
As Yamada said, the convenience store didn't have a single zombie in it. Minimarket on the side of the road where there are no houses around. There is only a large garden.
Arriving at the place, Yamada unlocked the truck door. Akira and the girl with the wrapper came out first followed by Haruka who was pushed by Yuki.
Yamada followed. He handed Yuki the key truck.
"You stay there!"
Yuki snapped while throwing Haruka at Yamada. Yuki headed back to shoot at the zombies that had followed the truck.
The four people in school clothes sat on the road divider. Haruka saw that moment as an opportunity.
A chance to lock Yuki from moving.
"Stop it, Haruka!"
A low voice sounded from her right. It was Yamada who stare intently at Yuki.
A voice that didn't seem to be aimed directly at Haruka now.
Haruka stopped her intentions after hearing Yamada's words. After all, Yamada is the savior of her life.
Yuki managed to eradicate the zombies that followed. Luckily the MP4 he uses has some kind of silencer so that the sound it makes feels sublime. If not, most likely the zombies around will arrive.
The girl with the weapon then sat down in front of the four students. She stared at Haruka for some time. A look full of hatred.
Haruka also returned her gaze. The two girls gave off a strong aura of hostility.
Yuki averted her gaze. Not because she felt defeated or anything, but because she wanted to inform Tanaka who was left behind.
"Oi man over there! Where are we now?"
Yamada was asked by Yuki. This became his full consideration since he thought about the many possibilities that would happen.
"We are now at a minimarket called Sepimarket District X. That's what I remember!"
Yamada decided to tell her. There were too many reasons that he didn't want to say it. However, there is one reason which makes him have to answer.
The opponent in front of him had both distance and weapon advantages. He can't provoke this one opponent, Yamada thought.
Yuki looked for the name in the map application column. He gets two points. One is in his town and the other is in the next town.
The point in the city is touched. The screen displayed some information, but the one thing Yuki was looking for was the address code in the app. Code with more than twenty digits.
Yuki copied the code and he sent it to Tanaka's contact number via SMS. The radio waves are transmitted invisible to the eye to the device that meets the requirements.
Now she put the phone back in her chest pocket. Yuki is back in a situation where she keeps an eye on an unknown students so they don't do anything harm.
Yamada could only surrender. Worst case scenario is that the opponent is a member of a villian group. They will be doomed when that happens.
Haruka is confused to choose between wanting to attack and running away or staying silent according to Yamada's orders. She thought the same as the bespectacled man. However, unlike Yamada, Haruka is a person who dares to take risks for the sake of results.
The other two in the group of students could only fall silent. Akira who is usually chatty is now silent while playing with pebbles. The girl with the wrapper being hugged tightly had always been silent. There was no movement other than the blinking and exhalation that occurred in her body.
The atmosphere suddenly became calm. The cloud covered the sun.
~~~
"Could it be that she's still hungry?"
Tanaka moved quickly through the obstacles in the way. He was still thinking about something.
"Or maybe she just wants to prank me!"
He was still thinking about the reasons why Yuki left him. He still kept running.
"No, it doesn't matter now. She sent a text message which means she's most likely in danger... or is this just a prank?"
Tanaka still couldn't be sure.
With his cheetah moves, Tanaka made it three-quarters of the distance he had to cover. It takes no more than three minutes.
He only had a minute left. Many zombies are passed.
The thought of the reason why Yuki left him now turned into super anticipation if only the girl was in a dangerous situation.
Tanaka could see it. About four or five people who were in the distance a bit apart. Yuki was in front of them.
Tanaka also noticed one thing that there was a zombie moving behind one of the cars which is close to one of the people there. Tanaka took the knife from his pocket.
One meter high wire fence was jumped over. The five people were aware that someone had arrived very quickly.
"Bow down!"
Tanaka shouted. He threw his knife at the back of one of the men that wearing glasses. The knife flew and landed right on the zombie's head.
Now, the two sides with complete members met.
