Chapter 9: The Beginner’s Tournament

Aeleus POV

Pulling up his character stats page, Aeleus found out that he should be able to defeat most other beginners due to his high intelligence level and his new spell [Dark Fireball].

Opening his inventory, Aeleus noticed that he had 94 copper coins and set off to the market to find out if he could buy anything with that.

Aeleus POV

“Buy one, buy all!”

“Everything you could ever want is here!”

“These weapons could save your life!”

“Ladies! These pieces of jewelry are for you!”

“Potions, potions! If you don’t want to die, buy them!”

Aeleus heard numerous vendors trying to persuade people to come to their stall and buy what they are selling. However there was only one stall that appealed to Aeleus and that stall was the Potion Stall. Aeleus walked up to the stall and noticed that he was the only person in line.

“Excuse me sir, how much for these potions?” Aeleus asked

The vendor looked at him, almost with an appraising eye, before shaking his head and saying, “These lesser mana and health potions are 20 copper each.”

“How much mana and health do these potions restore?” asked Aeleus

“20 mana and health per potion.” The vendor replied.

“I’ll take 2 health potions and 2 mana potions.” Said Aeleus handing over 80 copper coins, leaving him with 14 copper left.

Aeleus quickly put the four potions inside his inventory as he knew he would need them sooner or later.

“Only 14 copper coins left… This wouldn’t be able to buy anything useful so I may as well go to the Coliseum as the tournament starts in 20 minutes.

Coliseum

Aeleus POV

“This place is huge!” Aeleus said as he walked in

“Of course it is” said a mysterious, yet oddly familiar voice.

“It’s been around for hundreds of years, and gladiators used to fight to the death here.” The voice continued.

Aeleus turned around and was almost overcome with anger, “Krys! What are you doing here!”

She looked at him with an arrogant, and condescending smirk, “I’m watching the tournament, Brave wants to participate and show everyone that he is the best here.”

“Brave? That arrogant warrior who did nothing against the boss?” Aeleus said

“He may be arrogant, but he is still strong enough to defeat you.” Krys said.

“We’ll see” was all that Aeleus said before walking away and heading towards the receptionist.

“Excuse me, is this where I sign up to participate in the Beginners Tournament?” Aeleus asked politely

“Yes, it is, there is a participation fee of 10 copper coins, once you pay you will be placed in the tournament.”

“Here are the ten copper coins, and my name is Aeleus.” Said Aeleus

“Very well Aeleus, you may wait in the lobby, the tournament shall begin in 10 minutes” replied the receptionist.

10 minutes later

“Can all participates of the Beginner’s Tournament please enter the Coliseum at this time.” Said the receptionist.

Aeleus and 4 others walked into the Coliseum where they were met with a host.

“I am the host for the Beginner’s Tournament. After I go over the rules, the Tournament will start. The rules are if you win the tournament you get a magic stone, do not try to leave during the tournament, the only way to leave is to die or to win. The first match will be Brave versus Alex, everyone else may wait in the stadium surrounding the Coliseum.

Aeleus’s hands tightened on hearing the name of the person who betrayed him and struggled to hold himself back from attacking him.

“Pfft, this will be easy.” Said the cocky warrior known as Brave

His opponent simply looked at him, and pulled out his sword.

“Ignoring me eh? I’ll show you what happens if you ignore me!” yelled Brave as he charged Alex.

Alex once again, without saying a word, looked at him and started to react.

[Taunt]

“Fool! What was the point of taunting me when I was going to attack you anyway!” said Brave

Brave swung his sword at Alex’s head, missing when the warrior simply took a step back.

[Power Strike]

“60 damage! How are you doing so much!” said Brave as he was left with 90/150 hp

This time Alex responded, “I placed every point into strength”

“Every point! Your strength must be at least 25!” yelled Brave, “Are you trying to become a Berserker or something!”

“A berserker… I like that name. Yes, I want to become a berserker.” Said Alex as he used [Taunt] and [Power Strike] once again, this time dealing 70 damage, leaving Brave with 20/150 hp.

“You were never my opponent in the first place.” Alex said as he swung his sword and killed Brave.

Throughout this entire fight, all Aeleus could focus on was how strong Alex was, and if he could beat him.

“Alex is the winner, the next fight will be Aeleus versus Salena. Both participants please come down.” Said the host

Aeleus arrived first and took this time to study his opponent. To his utter surprise, his opponent was also a Mage.

“Oh? You also picked the mage class?” Salena asked.

“That’s right.” Said Aeleus

“Begin!” yelled the host.

Without wasting time, Salena casted her spells.

[Fire Orb] [Fire Orb]

“Your [Fire Orb] spell is pretty strong.” Said Aeleus.

“Let me show you something stronger.” Aeleus said with an evil grin on his face.

[Dark Fireball]

And quickly followed it up with [Fire Orb]

Salena was thrown backwards as 61 damage was dealt to her, leaving her with 64 hp.

“Wh… what was that!” Salena coughed out.

“There is no need for you to know.” Aeleus said as he finished her off with another casting of [Dark Fireball] and [Fire Orb].

“The winner, Aeleus!” the host yelled. “The final battle shall be between Aeleus versus Alex!”

Aeleus quickly drank a lower mana potion that was provided to him by the Coliseum so he regained his mana.

“Begin!” yelled the host.

“You… you are different than the others.” Said Alex

“Yes, I am stronger than the rest.” Aeleus said with a dark grin on his face.

[Fire Orb] [Fire Orb] [Fire Orb] [Fire Orb] [Fire Orb]

“Ha! Not so strong now are you!” said Aeleus, getting cocky since he took a little over half of his opponents health in an instant, leaving Alex with 74/150 hp.

[Taunt]

Alex suddenly retaliated, and Aeleus was pulled towards him.

“Dang it!” Aeleus thought, as he forgot all about the [Taunt] ability.

[Power Strike]

Aeleus fell to the ground having only 55/125 hp left.

“He can kill me in one more [Taunt] [Power Strike] combo, what can I do, what can I do” thought Aeleus, furiously racking his brain for any ideas.

Quickly jumping backwards, Aeleus opened up his inventory and quickly drank both his health potions, putting him back at 95/125 hp.

“At least he won’t be able to kill me in one combo anymore.”

[Fire Orb]

MISSED

This time, Alex simply moved out of the way and the [Fire Orb] missed him.

“Shoot, forgot that spells are easier to dodge than sword strikes.” Aeleus said, getting depressed before another idea popped into his head.

[Summon Pet]

Aeleus’s LVL 1 [Albino Red Fox] appeared next to him, and looked at him for directions.

“Bite him in the back of his leg, and don’t let go.” Aeleus commanded.

The fox quickly ran to Alex, and Alex still surprised that his opponent had a pet didn’t move and the fox was able to clamp down behind his leg.

Aeleus aimed the spells high enough to hit the opponent but also so that it wouldn’t damage his pet.

“Winner! Aeleus!” yelled the host.

“Here’s your prize kid, use it wisely.” Said the host as he threw the magic stone towards him.

Aeleus caught the stone and put it in his inventory, and felt a deep sense of accomplishment since he beat Alex, who beat Brave. Therefore, making him stronger than Brave.

“Serves him right for what he did to me. I think it’s time for me to finally leave this area and fight the next [BOSS] to move forward.” Said Aeleus.
