Chapter 4 - Run, Pause and Kill
It was time to confirm the might of [Paulum]. As i look at the gnolls in front of me and observe them. Then walking quietly i channeled the energy to power [Paulum].
And as if mind went black, i gazed at amazement at the world which have been paused. Then as if testing i found myself unable to move.
''Hmm, it seems the when i used paulum, everything would truly stop, the only thing i can do is look around'' then i channeled power again and the world start moving again. I tried pausing and unpausing and it seems that it is indeed possible to do it.
Thinking about it i can now paused in a swing or attack by an enemy. With this i can now pausedscum and can probably at least dodge more efficiently.
''Now lets try the [pause save]'' then channeling energy again the world paused and as i will it, my mind then appeared inside the voided room.
Then i muttered [save] and suddenly a mirror like object that was a size of a door appeared. ''Lets now see if this would work'' as i unpaused and went out from the voided room. Then as i stand back in the world. I took 10 steps away from the position i saved and paused again.
Then as went back into the voided room. I can see the current location of of where i paused. And then looking at the mirror which appeared when i chanted [save]. I then chanted [load] and as energy flows out the mirror which was created when i save . I touched the mirror and as if sucking me in. The world unpaused and i found myself back to the original position and went back 10 steps!
Seeing that it work, i feel joy. The power to save,pause and load... the power to mess with time. Then feeling the anxiety of the power not being able to work. I grin like a madman and [pause and save]. After that knowing that it will work. I run straight at the gnolls and observe their actions and movements as if memorizing them! Then as i went passed the last gnoll, i activated paused and then load back in the previous point where i saved.

As if fear was lifted inside me i began to think that this dangerous situation is now like a game to me. After all how could i possibly lose? These monsters in front of me are now my prey. With this power i can follow their actions as if everything was scripted.
No matter what they would do, they would always do the same action. And with that i can accurately subdue them with a painless death!

Many of the characters in this story are United States natives and the story begins in the United States, my homeland. However, knowledge or interest in this country is not necessary to understand the story, especially as it progresses. Also, as this is a novel that deals with societal collapse and while that damage may be widespread, in story, I don’t want to overstep and critique the culture of others’ unless I have particular knowledge in a given area. Ultimately, the Dreamside Road is American in the same way Harry Potter is English, fantasies that do not have a full secondary world, but with enough original elements to fully diverge the setting from our the real world.
