《Lucky Me!》Chapter 5: Trouble In The Forest
Advertisement
I wonder how far the next destination is going to be… Currently, I am walking through the forest instead of the road. Of course, in order to not get lost I am not too deep in the forest. If I look to my right I can still see the road from afar. Basically, I’m just following the road from the side and that side happens to be the forest. I just didn’t want to be seen by other people because the chance of me being questioned or in danger are lot higher.
It’s been two hours since I have departed from the scene of crime. I’m still walking but I can feel the fatigue building up rather quickly. I checked my wrist watch once again to confirm that it’s 11:30pm. This indicated two things. One, I’ve been in this world for about 4 hours. Two, if I were to be in my original world, I should be sleeping right now. This explained my fatigue.
I walked for about 30 minutes more and decided to take a break. How does Bear Grylls do these kind of things? It didn’t look that hard to me when I was watching his show but damn, reality hits hard. I probably can’t even handle 1/10th of his travels. As I complained, I sat down and leaned my back against a huge boulder that was nearby. Then I relaxed.
My stomach started to grumble. It’s actually been some quiet time since I had last meal. I think the last time I ate was 7 hours ago, right before my lecture started. To satisfy my hunger, I took out my snickers bar and munched on it.
Mm… delicious.
That’s all I can think of. Delicious. While I was eating the snickers bar, I ended up thinking of many questions in my head. I wonder if I can go back to my old world… Can I even survive until then…? Wait… Can I even go back? Is my friend okay without the medicine? What happens if I like it here? Why was I the only one summoned? Why couldn’t have it been somebody else? At least let me have a companion to talk to… I felt lonely… Even though, I knew that I wouldn’t have companion, friends and family back in my old world either, I still sought out for love. (Well, maybe except 1 friend.)

Frustration, loneliness, anger, and fear. I felt many negative emotions swirl inside of me. My chest felt like it was swelling up as if it was about to burst open. Then, my head felt hot and I felt my eyes swelling. Soon enough, I felt the warm liquid that ran through my cheeks into the snickers bar. I continued to eat the snickers bar.
That was the saltiest snicker bar that I have ever tasted.
………………
It took a while for myself to cheer up but I managed to do so. When I was about to get up and move out, I noticed that the sun was setting. I can’t believe I wasted so much time being let down but what can you do. I thought about continuing the journey inside the dark with my Iphone flash light but it wasn’t a bright idea. I may get lost and never find my way out. So instead, I turned on my Iphone in case I need the light, then I marked the directions that points to the road and the direction that follows the road from the side. This will help me in case I need to move out during the night. All I have to do will be flash my light on it to grasp my direction.
Once I finished marking, I went back to the large boulder and leaned next to it, trying to get some sleep. But, it was uncomfortable, so I took my bag and put it on my lap, and then I rested my head on part of the bag that was bulging out due to egg being placed in there. As I rested my head on the bag I can hear a sound.
Ba-dum Ba-dum
Ba-dum Ba-dum
It had a steady rhythm, and it sounded similar to the sound of a heartbeat. Some reason, it was very pleasant to listen to. It helped me relax, and as I was listening to the sound, I gradually lost my conscience.
………...

All of a sudden, I felt intense pain on my left arm. It felt as if it was being bitten by something and was about to be torn off soon. It was so painful that I let out a scream.
“Ah, Fuck!”
I hurriedly took out my Iphone and turned on the flashlight app. I pointed to my left arm and what I saw was a creature that looked similar to a wolf. It was biting my arm. In panic, I took out my hand gun with my right hand and planned to shoot the creature. The creature noticed my intention, so it quickly let go of my arm, and leapt back to avoid the danger. My left arm was in immense pain, so I flashed the light to my left arm to check its condition. My arm was in a very poor state. Its flesh was torn apart and if you closely you can almost see the bone on one of the holes that was left with the creatures teeth mark. I still thanked the gods that it didn’t tear my arm off yet…
As I was looking at my arm, the wolf did not hesitate and launched the second attack. It jumped off the ground with tremendous strength and launched itself at me with its sharp claws out. Before I got to decide what I wanted to do, my body reacted faster than my mind can process the situation. I rolled to the left in order to avoid its attack. I quickly got up and tried to locate the creature by flashing my light at it.
I found it!
When the creature was found, it does not wait and launches its second attack to me. Unlike the first time it attacked me which caught me off guard, I was able to take aim at the wolf that was in midair and pulled the trigger.
Bang!
Unfortunately, the bullet I fired missed its body but hits the creatures’ leg. The creature lets out a scream in pain and loses balance in midair, then fell to the ground. Before I got to fire another shot at it, it quickly got up and retreated back deep into the forest.
Fuck… it hurts so much… I was a fool for not thinking about wild life or whatever that thing was for night time. It must have smelt the blood on my hands that I didn’t get to wash off completely when I was checking the corpses. I deserved it. I didn’t plan ahead enough. I only thought of the safety of myself at the moment, which brought this grave mistake.
I can’t stay here any longer. I have to keep on walking and somehow make it out of here, and find a way to treat my wounds. I was bleeding pretty badly and there are probably going to more of those creatures chasing me.
I took out the water from my bag. Then, I used the water to wash off the wound in order to prevent infection much as I can.
Fuck! It hurts so much.
After rinsing the wound, I took off my Adidas jersey and tightly wrapped around my left arm. This was to decrease, and prevent anymore unnecessary blood loss. After performing the best first aid possible to myself, I took out my aspirin and took two pills from it. Hopefully, these pills help me cope with the pain. I reloaded my Glock with the one and only ammo clip and looked for the marks that I carved. Soon as I found them, I hurriedly followed the direction it pointed for me to go to.

The Kodoku Game
In Japanese folklore, there once existed an ancient technique among alchemists for harvesting the strongest poison known to man. A poison so vicious, so horrendous, that a single drop could incapacitate an entire nation of humans, several times over. A poison so intense that a single drop could turn the tides of a war on its head. As potent as it appeared however, this poison could be harvested from the blood of a single insect alone- an insect the alchemist’s called the ‘Kodoku’. As lucrative as was attaining this poison however, the problem lied in identifying this insect- its appearance, shape and size changed from region to region and from continent to continent. Sometimes it took the appearance of a ladybug and other times a horned-beetle. In order to determine the identity of this special insect the alchemists came up with an ingenious method. They created an impregnable jar of clay out of the best sandstone they could find and placed hundreds of different insects into the same jar. The jar was made with such great mastery that it allowed no insects to escape and allowed no objects to enter. The laws of nature dictated that the insects would remain together in the jar forever. However, it turned out that as time went on, the insects’ hunger for food and power caused them to turn against each other- one insect ate another until only one remained. This sole insect contained a poison that far surpassed that of all the others and became stronger as it ate more and more insects. The alchemists at this point had succeeded in identifying the Kodoku and could extract it’s poison as long as they continued to feed it regularly. Although this folklore ends here, the actual story does not. One day, as the alchemists cheered in joy of having identified the Kodoku they so eagerly wanted, they forgot to close the lid on the very jar that was considered to be completely impregnable. This small gap was just large enough for the Kodoku inside to crawl out. Famished from not having been fed for weeks, the Kodoku ended up eating the very alchemists that nourished its growth until not even the bones remained. Yet, the Kodoku’s hunger didn’t seem to subside in the slightest. So it traveled to the next village and began eating whatever it could find there. Its poison made it unparalleled in strength and slowly but surely it began to dwindle down the population of the entire city. Yet its hunger only continued to grow. So it traveled to the next city over and ate all it could there. Very soon, the Kodoku couldn’t find any more food to eat. There was no one left to eat and no one left to spectate. So it stood there, by itself pondering what possibly was left to eat that could satiate its hunger. But there was one thing left that Kodoku realized it had never eaten. Itself.
